- On Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. ET, Lawfare Editor-in-Chief Benjamin Wittes sat down with Lawfare Legal Fellow and Courts Correspondent Anna Bower, Lawfare Senior Editor Roger Parloff, and Lawfare Managing Editor Tyler McBrien for this week’s episode of “Lawfare Live: Trump’s Trials and Tribulations.”
Thank you as always team Lawfare, most informative.
I hit "Subscribe" when they discussed the boots worn by Trump's lawyer. I am 58. I don't have a check book.
you aren't mentioning that she tried to hire someone else before hiring Wade--and part of the reason the first person she went to didn't want the job is because it didn't pay much
And he didn't want to have to live with a security detail for the rest of his life.

Exactly not much money for all the Trouble!!!
News flash to Ben: it's not weird that a couple would have some $ reimbursement going on throughout their relationship. My guy & I have managed joint expenses that way for years. I'll tell you what IS really weird though - 2 independant responsible adults having to answer the harrassing picayune, insulting questions like those put to Fani Willis & Jason Wade. What's weird is that the judge didn't (or couldn't, once he'd approved a hearing) put a stop to this as soon as it was clear how bogus the charges are. I can't believe they're going to keep the whole stupid trashy fiasco going for more days. Some system - or is it the practitioners - of justice! I'm disgusted.
Best comment.
I concur! They really think $10k is even enough to be considered some sort of kickback out of $750k when he usually makes almost twice that?!?
And from what I understand from LEGAL AF, GA code of ethics don’t even have a code against relationships to begin with! So it shouldn’t even have mattered when it began!
@@wanderlustworldschooling543 Exactly!
@@wanderlustworldschooling543 Yes really. The nattering about who paid for which Uber ride and why did Fani paid in cash was unbelievable - these things matter??!! I hate the way many pundits are jumping into the back and forth about these minuscule amounts, deeply personal and irrelevant matters, instead of standing up and saying "whoaaa...this whole "discussion" is NOT legitimate"
Roger Parloff: Jacob Javits was never Governor of New York but he was New York State Attorney General.
The real irony is that now the Trump Organization is ordered by the court to have it's own Internal Auditing Department. 😊
The real Iron is that people think this fraudster can make our economy great hahaha
The total judgment, including interest, excluding the ~$10M for Don Jr, Eric, and Weisselberg, is $453M.
He needs to put up $635M within 30 days in order to appeal the E Jean Carroll I case and the NY AG case.
Elon is on it, he's paying for all kinds of MAGA people's lawsuits now
NO!! We don’t have checkbooks anymore! 😂
In Australia hardly anyone has a cheque book. I haven’t seen one for years
$83 million to be posted by Mar 10 (judgment issued on jury trial date of Feb 08 + 30 days). $453 million (judgment + interest) should be posted by Mar 18 (decision/order date of Feb 16 + 30 days). NY state requires 100% undertaking while on appeal to avoid immediate collection activities.
Appeal Bond $635 million will have to be PAID (I think in cash or a bail bond)by Sunday, March 17, 2024
Fascinating listening to lawyers creating scenarios around the love life of prosecutors. I am still not sure how that links to the case where multiple people, some who plead guilty, tried to overthrow the election in Georgia. You can put a round peg into a square hole but it looks sloppy.
That’s why it’s so odd for the judge to even allow this hearing 🤦🏻♀️
As for any conflict, doesn't there have to be some potential prejudice to the defendants? Both Willis and Wade are prosecutors, with the same interest, that of convicting the indicted defendants. The relationship had nothing to do with the prosecutors' zeal to get a conviction.
Legal AF said the only reason there would have been a conflict of interest would have been if he was being paid on contingency. Without that, the relationship or financials are moot 🤷🏻♀️
Outstanding explanation of the facts and applicable law in Trump’s court cases. Thanks!
I do not have a checkbook either.
I have a number of chequebooks but none of them are for an account which still exists. I think they either already have or are about to abolish cheque guarantee cards here which will still further exacerbate the problem for people who are not able to use online for one reason or another.
@@c2757 I Had to look up cheque guarantee card lol. Don’t think we had that in the US.
Wasn't it Judge Kaplan in E Jeanne? Not Merchan?
Yup.
most fathers say to their daughters to keep cash when you go out in case the guy is yo forceful and you need to escape in a cab …,
The Trumps just got ENGORON'D!!
Making yourself a pain in the butt to the judge in his own Court tends to lead to that sort of outcome.
Cash for a woman in the south is not unusual. Both white and black women understand it is of great importance when those women do not want to have "a man as the plan" She is telling the truth!
A fair bit of smoke!!!???
Remove the bias guys. These attorneys are so unprofessional. They even recommended sanctions. This has got to stop!
The amount of mental gymnastics displayed here is astounding! 😅 😔
Lewis Kaplan presided over the EG Carrol cases.
0% chance he'd be pardoned in Georgia b/c the pardon is given 5 years after you served your sentence. Engineer in San Jose. Common knowledge.
And it goes before a board. Governor can’t override.
Barbara Jones, Monitor for the T Corp is instructed to stay no less than 3 yrs.
I know black people and yes they believe in keeping money because they didn't trust banks!!
If you were a female you needed to be able to pay your bill and get a safe way home!!
Let's remember, folks, while we may be in Fani's corner, the only thing that counts is the eventual criminal conviction of Trump and his conspirators.
But removing it from Fani would make that less probable. The last case she was removed from STILL hasn’t been assigned to a different office.
00:31 - LOL - Fulton County Daytime TV
Believing DA Willis is a matter of people having different norms. Nathan Wade has a different norm for money than Fani so less comfortable with this
Mike Johnson also says he doesn't have a check book.
That's another fkr I don't trust.
I thought that it was he didn’t have a bank account.
I might be wrong, but I think you need a bank account to have a checking account. @@MicheleHell
@@MicheleHellyeah- THAT’S not shady at all 🤦🏻♀️
$355 million, just be happy guys. It will break him.
FYI - SEC approved Trump's truth social to merge and go public. Current valuation of his portion (58%) is around $5 Billion. Trump is fine. The nonsense will be bounced.
@@honkbob He's hawking sneakers and perfume. I think he's worried. His supporters will continue to send money, I'm sure
@@leec5170 Not going to break him -- it's 9%. and the shoes worked -- triggered the left.
The President must take an oath of office to faithfully uphold the Constitution and laws of the United States. So what happens if Trump is convicted of one or more felonies but elected President? What's are the legal options? Would the State's certify electors? Would it move to the House?
There’s no law that he can’t serve as president, even as a convicted felon 🤦🏻♀️
I’m holding out for the SCOTUS opinion on the 14th amendment. As it stands now, from where it sounded like they were heading- congress could refuse to seat him. 😳
"Hey Trump,...New York just ain't into you, anymore...move along, bum."
bond is 9% or 10%... come on people. FYI - SEC approved Trump's truth social to merge and go public. Current valuation of his portion (58%) is around $5 Billion. Trump is fine. The nonsense will be bounced. Sonya Sotomayor said, "I can't imagine a single state being able to decide who can or can't be on the ballot"
Only a fool makes up his/her mind before listening to or investigating BOTH sides of an issue! 🥴
No Ivanka?
The state decided not to prosecute her.
She won on appeal that her involvement was outside the statute of limitations.
Kevin, STPU and go back to pitching ponzi schemes.
That analogy is ridiculous

FMME, can somebody, anybody teach Anna how to talk below a shouting level!!!!
Or can Lawfare get a decent sound engineer who knows how to mix the levels better. Her volume SERIOUSLY detracts from the entire podcast.
I like loud women.
