    I was watching the live stream at work yesterday and had multiple people ask what that sound was (Abbie's stimming). This meant that I got to spread a whole lot of #autismawareness !!! Also got to shamelessly plug your channel lol. I also appreciate that you don't try to edit out her stims, it gives me more chances to spread awareness at an otherwise oblivious place. By doing this it has led to a better understanding of one of our employees who has autism. Before I started watching your videos some people thought he was shy and rude because he wouldn't look at you when you spoke to him and he wouldn't respond most of the time. Now they are starting to be more accepting and trying to find ways to interact with him that he can handle and enjoy.

    Thank you for saying that you draw a line! There are people out there that do not care or do not know where to draw the line about the privacy of children and will exploit anything and everything about them for money or views. Abbie might not care in the long run, but she is a person who deserves dignity and privacy! I just came down here to say that!

    I loved your answers to my question guys and yes Dr Dre is the medicine for any situation :) I had a semi-heart attack with the mention but thank you so much for that! It was a really nice surprise but also I truly appreciate the time you took to watch some of my videos, that blew my mind!
    Definitely agree that the videomicro is a great microphone (totally bias as I have one but nevermind). Aww the dog at 17:42 is the fluffiest looking dog ever!
    Yeah I agree that there is a line of what people can/should say on RUclips when it comes to personal stuff. Obviously we share our lives with people we don't know which is a strange concept but at the end of the day we are still people. We have our own privacy lines which shouldn't be crossed and I think that is something that fans of RUclipsrs like Zoella, Markpiler etc don't understand. Absolutely agree with the protection of Abbie's privacy as well as yourselves, totally cool with us ;)

    I have watched just about all your videos at this point and I think Abbie communicates her needs and wants very well. You are doing an awesome job! By the way, I think you are doing a wonderful job handling Abbie's personal issues. Sometimes people tend to forget that just because she is non verbal it does not mean she does not have feelings, and you do a very good job protecting them.

    Letters should stay in the alphabet and numbers stay in math! Having said that, I’m gonna hazard a guess at ... 7? You’re welcome Isaiah 😁
    Hope my question is not too intrusive, apologies if it is. Do you guys ever fear future meltdowns when Abbie is a bigger teen or adult or is it expected that with continued ABA she may be able to self sooth and stim without SIB? I wonder because I’ve seen when you’ve tried to block SIB she can hurt whoever’s trying to help and I imagine with more strength it could get very difficult.
    Huge respect to you guys. Love your family x

    • @annajohnson308
      @annajohnson308 7 лет назад

      They mentioned it once before, but Abbie is only supposed to grow to 5'2'' (157.5cm), so I'm not sure she's going to be too much of a threat, hope this was helpful.

    • @amytih47
      @amytih47 7 лет назад

      Anna Johnson Thanks for replying. I guess it was more around the ABA. I know a lot of people are opposed to it but from what I’ve seen with Abbie, it’s great for her and I wondered its potential to eliminate SIB eventually as that has been the hardest part to watch. You know she doesn’t mean it but you know it must hurt and be very stressful for whoever is with her at the time. It would be great to be able to completely stop it.

    To those who are/will be dealing with menstrual cycles - look into cloth pads and tampons, menstrual underwear and menstrual cups. Most people find they are more comfortable than the standard disposable kinds of menstrual products and might be especially good look into if you find you have sensory issues. Bonus is you can also use the pads/underwear for light to moderate incontinence if that's another issue you are having.
    I'm not saying they will solve all problems and cure cancer, but at least look to see if they might work for you, especially if you don't like conventional products (be it due to sensory issues, cost, environment, etc).
    And I promise, they're no grosser than conventional disposables (in fact many, including myself, find them generally more sanitary with the right system in place).
    Some additional info: They come in a variety of styles, fabrics, sizes, and absorbancies/capacities. The non-menstrual cups are pretty easy to diy (even by hand sewing) if you can't afford to buy ready made ones. You can use old towels, shirts (flannel and t-shirt jersey or anything else cotton or linen), and some type of poly-fleece throw if you don't have access to a fabric store. And they will last for years if you take care of them (and accept that they will show stains over time).

    Isaiah, if knowing how to figure out what the answer to that equation is, would actually benefit my life...I would have an answer for you. I can pretty much tell you right now that I will never have a situation where I will need to know how to figure that out.
    Here's my question: once you are done that class, will you ever need that knowledge?
    Asa, I'm definitely glad that you have a "line" for protecting Abbie's privacy. That's an important part of sharing your life with the internet, as you guys do. It's important to know what kinds of things you want to share and what kinds of things you want to keep quiet.
    Hope everyone has a great day!

    Absolute respect for the “question unanswered” ❤️ I have a question kinda linked to that but NOT that, hope it’s ok? So this isn’t just autistic specific as it’s an “option” offered to other conditions as well. I know someone who’s parents decided to stop the process of puberty all together on the recommendation of doctors. I don’t think it’s for me to say if that’s the right or wrong decision to make as its obviously a case by case thing & doctors and parents would know more on what’s right for their child than me. But my question is...was that ever a discussion a doctor brought up with you? Or a discussion you both had when she was growing up? If not what would you have thought about it? I don’t even know if they still offer that anymore, I’m probably the same age as you guys so the person I know is a lot older than your daughter. I understand if it’s something you don’t wanna discuss but I just thought I’d ask, much love to your family and keep up the good work ❤️

    Our son has a huge head, and he also hated having a helmet on. He hates being off the ground.....he couldn't do horse therapy either. A lot of people who are in the therapy world just can't understand it. It just is. Some kids do great and others can't handle it.
    p.s. I think it is so great that you don't answer those who are just curious about personal parts, of Abbie’s life. I am the same with our guy. If he were typical, I wouldn't answer curiosity about such things. Therefore, I won't answer even though he has special needs. He is a PERSON, after all. He isn't a curiosity.

So, my recommendation would be to get some early intervention involved thru your lical school district. If your child is in a daycare or preschool program they should be able to assist you. If not contact the board of education to see if they could tell you how to reach someone to assist in early intervention. It would be at no cost to you that way to have her observed by different therapists then go from there. (This is just my opinion/suggestion) i did have experience with dealing with this program for my son when he was about 2 yrs old based on some concerns the daycare had. I had different therapists actually come right to my house & ultimately he was given a speech therapist (again no charge) that would meet with him at his daycare weekly since i worked full time. Had i been a SAHM they could've done it in my home.

      My advice to you-- educate yourself and then pursue a formal diagnosis, if needed. It is 100% possible that "it just went unnoticed early." Girls and women sometimes have autism symptoms that look a little different than what is normally seen-- and this can happen for lots of different reasons.
      I'm disabled, have a complex rare disease, and also happen to have ASD + ADHD. I had to actively pursue my autism diagnosis at age 23, and I can't tell you how many times I've been told "I don't see it" by doctors and other health care professions. I was diagnosed with ADHD at age 26-- usually the ADHD diagnosis will come first if someone is diagnosed with both, although both ASD and ADHD are highly under-diagnosed in girls / women. I've read that co-occurrence of ASD and ADHD is approximately 40%, so that is also something to be aware of... and then there's a bunch of other things that can come along with an ASD and/or an ADHD diagnosis.
      Because you're probably going to need paperwork for accommodations at school, I highly recommend that you find a good doctor that you trust and agree with as soon as possible. I THINK your local school district is supposed to help you, but my local school district was completely oblivious to my ASD and ADHD plus it took my elementary school four years to figure out that it would be a good idea to test my IQ to see if I qualified for the 'gifted program'... and it turned out that I have a very high IQ.
      Good luck! =)

    At what age was it confirmed Abbie was going to be non verbal? My son is a little over 3 and has autism. He currently is non verbal but his neurologist says that it’ll be a few years before he hits the point where if hes still non verbal he will stay non verbal. It’s very hard for everyone except myself to do things for him. Were like on a telepathic level with each other and I just know what he needs/ wants. We’ve started some work with communication devices so I am hoping he catches on to that.

    I have a question and I feel like you have probably discussed this before but I can’t remember. Anyway, do you think that you are going to finish training Maverick to be a service dog for Abbie? I am looking into getting a service dog for my six year old son with autism.

    I have autism, and I act like Abbie. Watching your videos have helped me what I need to do, but my question is, what do I need to do about no one wanting to help me? I mean, everyone doesn't help me and they ignore the fact that I have autism. Is there something that I should do to get them to help me?

      Chase Callaway shut those doors and look for people who accept you, support you and Love you. They are out there, maybe you just didn't gave them an opportunity to show themselves. ❤ and while you don't find them just focus on you first. You are the most important person in your life!

      Thank you, both of you. My parents say that I'm trying to get attention, when I really don't. I'll try to find those people, thank you so much for helping me. I love your videos and I hope you continue to make more with Abbie.
