I strongly recommend one of the TECSUN receivers: PL 660 (on my film above) or PL 880 (also has many good opinions). QODOSEN is also great but doesn't have the side band (USB, LSB). 73!

Is the Tecsun 330 also a decent shortwave receiver? How does it compare to the 2 radios in this video. Thanks for posting the video.

Well, I have never used TECSUN PL 330, but as far as I know, PL 330 is a fully digital receiver, operating on a digital signal processing chip. PL 660 is an analog radio. PL 330 has the side band functionality as well, so generally I bet it is at least as good as PL 660 on short waves but I cannot confirm it as a user. It seems to me that PL 330 doesn't have the air band. As for QODOSEN, it has no side band function, which greatly limits the reception of e.g. amateur radio stations and many others. 73!

I have a DX-286 and a PL-660. For pure SW DXing, the Qodosen beats the Tecsun. Not by a mile, but it is more sensitive. I’m glad I have both radios.

@@ditto1958 Well, I have exactly the same 2 receivers, but in my opinion on SW the TECSUN is a bit more sensitive and offers a more stable and distinct signal. But on FM and MW, QODOSEN is undoubtedly better. The same with LW, which QODOSEN receives with a very high quality, especially with the external antenna (that's a great function). Outdoor DXing on LW with QODOSEN is really amazing and unbeatable. 73!

@ That’s interesting. Do you use an external antenna, or the whip antennae? The Teccun’s whip is huge and the Qodosen’s is tiny. I use an indoor retractable wire antenna. With it, and my Qodosen usually is more sensitive on AM, FM and SW, but… the Qodosen either gets a signal or it doesn’t. The PL-660 has tools to help tune weak signals.

@@ditto1958 Ah, yes, by the "external antenna" in QODOSEN I meant the whip antenna and by the "internal": the built-in, ferrite one...QODOSEN has that great function of switching between the internal (ferrite) and the external (whip or other) one but it is active only on MW and LW, where the ferrite antena is used. But so far I have never used (for QODOSEN) any external antennas other than the whip antenna, but having read your comment, I must try it out to see the real difference between the QODOSEN and TECSUN (since you are right that TECSUN has a huge whip as compared to QODOSEN's). By the way, do you live in Europe or in America? I'm asking this because in Europe there are still some LW stations to catch and to hear the difference betweent those 2 receivers as far as their LW sensitivity is concerned.
