I prefer having a dedicated button for add all, add one, remove all so I can do it from any side of the machine, but this is fine. Reminds me of astroneer
If the bot interacted with the base more, I'd like it. Drifting on belts, going to lights if it becomes dark outside or even random dialogue with your bot. Suppose it has an own, cute, agenda (it wants a jetpack and on giving one, it loops in the air from time to time, something like that), it wants you to scratch behind a screw, starts painting the decorative blocks in it's area, then it would have character
I really like the way the game handles power (with generators feeding the high-voltage grid and the low-voltage grid distributed through foundation). I also love the choice to make all machines interact with you through in-world panels. The user interface seems friendly enough, especially compared to satisfactory. I think it's also done better than in Techtonica. I wasn't blown away by the design of the production tree last time I played, but I'm sure a lot of that got updated. (It also looks a LOT better now.) Looking forward to giving it another try! (Btw I'm not a fan of the boop boop droid, but it doesn't ruin anything for me.)
Every single game like this that I like I come to see a guild or tips and sure enough, I find your channel..absolute best channel for these games..only bad part is watching your builds in these games makes me never happy with what i have done and end up starting over..ps i dont understand how u master these game SOO fast..Very smart man u are sir
It's experience. Nilaus has literally 1000s of hours in Factorio which is an arguably far more complicated factory game (not meant to be an insult to Foundry, Factorio is just a finished game already). Certain things you learn in other Factory games apply to all of them, like how to organise betls and Main bus lines, making 'malls' etc. You'll get there, it just takes time!
I think the bot works well with the colorful cartoonish style and a bit of silly or comedic relief is always nice in such a "major planning" or "tedious fun" brainteasing type game.
I think the bot would be okay if it wasn't tied to progression...as in that you are forced to interact with it, but was more of a helper/assistant where it can be assigned certain tasks like fetching materials or clearing biomass/rocks from an area, etc.
I have to agree with you about the boop bot. I guess that makes an angry old man as well. My wife on the other hand, says it is an adorable bot. I guess we both know who is getting dinner tonight.... :)
Under gameplay option you can activate paste and copy without the tablet. Q: copy control+Q: copy target with settings shift+right click: copy configuration shift+left click: paste configuration
Hello Nilaus, I'm very thankfull to you for explaing and showing your BUS-System. I discovered this game some days ago und was really helpless to manage this many stuff ingame. You're doing this well. Please go on with it. (:
I bought this game 2 days ago and I already have 12 hours into it, It's incredibly fun and addictive, to me it feels like a cross between minecraft and factorio. and this game is surprisingly deep with how many things you can research and make. Also regarding C3-BB, i think it's cute, it doesn't get in the way.
Always love the few words, "Beep Boop", getting translated to something huge, "critical damage with explosive deconstruction". But yes feels a little out of place, even though you have factorio playthroughs with beep boop bots 🤭
Even though it's early access this game plays really nicely, and I love the graphics, it's stylized i dont get what people are saying when it looks crap, it looks great! I'm looking forward to seeing how this game grows.
I was kind of on the fence for a while with this one, lots of automation games this year and with satisfactory hitting 1.0 sometime this year seemed a tough sell. That bot is super adorable though, I want a plush one. The research tree doesn’t seem that big yet so might be a nice short distraction before big updates to other game.
Same here. Waiting for Satisfactory 1.0 before sinking in another 500-750 hours. Also, starting with Factorio makes no sense now because a new release (major expansion) is planned for August 2024. Playing Foundry in early access might be the stopgap I'm looking for!
I love the little bot. Given the cartoony, voxel art style, I think it fits in just fine. If the game went with serious graphics I think it would feel out of place, but I love it here.
Thank you for a great series. As an alternative to building Drone Miners along the edge of an ore deposit, you can use building blocks one or two voxels above the deposit and place the Drone Miners in the center of the narrow blocks above it. The coverage of each miner is then greater.
Thanks, this is helpful. I did a similar build; but I didn't elevate my bus and kept them together. It gets messy. So I will rework to mimic your bus line. Also, plates get eatin up very quickly. You need double, or more, of the plates to get things made. The only things I've automated are the T1 and T2 science packs. I had to disable some machines that were eating up the plates for T1 science, in order to get T2 science packs made. Also, I have 5 science stations being fed the packs for faster research; just like factorio. Edit: I find the main English bot to be tolerable; but I wonder what audience the devs were targeting with the cutesy stuff. I prefer to have kept the quest line on the right, and not have to interact with a cutesy bot to manage quests.
I realy looking forward to watch your factory grow, following the game since it was on itch. I like the changes they made since then and realy hope it will grow and modders will come, too. I realy avoid playing it like flat factorio and use those flooring only where it is needed, makes it look realy nice.
Try FortressCraft Evolved. It came out before Foundry and Satisfactory. It was one of the first "Factorio in 3D". It has some cool mechanics. Foundry took a few mechanics from it.
Looks fun. I might pick it up after it releases since I don't spend money on Early Access or Preorders anymore, hopefully they don't abandon it before then.
This looks like a decent factory game. Sort of Factorio/Dyson-like. (at least before you start flying around the Galaxy in Dyson!) I'll probably give this a try after playing through Techtonica. (Techtonica is Great!!)
Comment to show interest in a series for this game. Also, the first thing I'm doing when I find water is drowning C3-bb. That thing is CONSTANTLY in the way.
For me this feels less like a game inspired by Minecraft tech mods and more Factorio placed inside Minecraft. The biggest thing that makes me feel that is the progression system. Factorio has a research system, while Minecraft tech mods usually has natural system of machines allowing you to mine/process resources that can lead to new machines that further progresses stuff.
I am going to have to watch this a couple of times until my spatial awareness improves. Love the Aussie accent on the tutorial robot. The other robot is cute but I will probably cringe after I hear 'beep boop' more than 10 times.
These games really just lose me when they go first person. You are building complex production systems, a birds eye view makes the game so much better. Getting stuck down in what you are building with your vision blocked every which way is just a frustrating POV.
Yeah, it's pretty annoying for the building part, especially with the _huge_ "multiblocks" . It's pretty great for the walking and looking around part, though :D Bird's eye view always makes everything seem much smaller.
weird i like the pov of this and satisfactory bc you get the grand scale of the machines and make really messy spaghetti. birds eye helps yes when im building but thats the jetpack and watchtower is for. i get overwhelmed weirdly with the 3rd person factory games ++ if they have enemies.
Modded factory minecraft? Sounds great to me. I love Per Fabrica Ad Astra. Starting with stonage measures making the early game a lot more challenging to get tools until building extremely complicated oil refineries after which you might be close to having qualifications for real oil refining. No, you dont get to punch trees. You knap stones found on the ground together and tie them to a stick to have a tool. And of course you cant mine with mere stone tools, gotta get some metal for that. Beware of caveins.
Oil refining in that minecraft modpack (PFAA, Per Fabrica Ad Astra) requires 50 seperate buildings with pipes inbetween, often with multiple inputs and outputs respectively and inbetween.
(obviously 50 is just the bare minimum, with that you will have stuff backing up as some would have to have a higher capacity than others to deal with the same amount of oil)
My impression from the demo was that it wasn't anything particularly different from other factory games - curious to see you get into what makes the game unique.
After no more tasks came from the Bot for a while i deconstructed him and stuffed him in a Box done. I probably should take him out once in a while and get the crap load of Tasks he has stored up for me. xD
a bit of both. it's very cute, but if u can have it stay out of the way, as in not nag, should be ok. the cute little bugger does stay out of the way, so it's cool. so u can play with it if u want but not forced to.
well I am going to have to pull everything down that I have made so far and start again.. Mine efforts look like poo next to this.. thanks for the ideas. I have about 5 hours in the game so far and am enjoying it.. A friend and I got a paid dedicated server. Co op game play is good. stable etc. The game is better than i expected.
Some of my favorite games of all time have been walking sims. But I personally have no use for narrative in a factory builder. I play them to get into a design flow state; I don't care about the Factorio engineer's backstory.
Thank you Nilaus for introducing another addiction to me. so my map is very mountainy. what is a best way to clear mountain without starting a new map?
I think it's possible for a thing to be both cute and cringe. It's not for me but I'm glad it's in the game. Kids getting into factory games like this early is good for both them and the genre. So I think it's good for it to have concessions to people that aren't us.
I don't really understand the need for cute in my industrial factory games. Astro colony did this with their bot as well. But at least it didn't make noise. Love your videos.
I'd say the bot is kinda both. It's cute, but it feels really out of place. 3:05 From my experience with Demo version inputs and outputs don't block mining drones. Everything will be mined regardless. The only thing you need to keep it working is at least one hole in the platform for bots to go through. Bots calculate a path toward resource blocks in the range around the miner. As long as there's a path of a reasonable length they'll take it. However, if the path around an obstacle is too long they won't mine anything. The path doesn't have to be a direct line. I tried a horizontal tunnel with a couple turns in it and they went through, as I recall. So, you may want to place them all as close to the middle as possible. Also, it might be better to build inserters in "S" shape for visibility purposes instead of a straight line since in the latter case resources are not visible on the belt. I mean when buildings are placed 3 or 2 blocks away from each other instead of 4 and inserters either touch side-to-side or placed at 1 space away from each other with a belt sandwiched in between. Not the best building practice, but starting factory isn't meant to last and you see things move around. :)
Stacked year for automation games but the inclusion of a proprietary launcher is going to make this stay on my wishlist until I get through the other stuff
Two complaints, it's always seemed like a waste of time to have to build something before placing it, why not build it where you want it instead of having to open your inventory build it then rebuild it where you want it placed, wastes a lot of time. Second what purpose do belt loaders do other then take more time and space to build, just have inputs and outputs on the buildings. Obviously from above I didn't care for Factorio but love Satisfactory. Just seemed like there was a lot of "make work" that isn't needed and Foundry is doing the same.
1. The point is to automate building the buildings so you don't have to carry the raw materials around; manually crafting the building from your inventory should be quite rare outside of the very early game 2. Loaders can take from the belt without terminating the belt; it also means you can put the inputs and outputs wherever you want For the record, I love both Factorio and Satisfactory (and Buildcraft, and GregTech, and...); both approaches make perfect sense to me, and come with their own playstyles, designs and challenges. And I pretty much always play Factorio in Lazy Bastard mode, i.e. no handcrafting beyond what's absolutely necessary. Foundry is more on the Minecraft-y side of factory games.
This looks cool, but I have a dozen of similar games and nothing is standing out as really unique for it. I'll probably wait for a full release and finish some of the other builder games I have.
I'm ambivalent about the bot. It's not part of the gameplay, so as long as it doesn't get obnoxious (e.g. you have to look all over for it to get new quests or it showers you with bleeps) I can ignore it without it impairing my enjoyment.
I like the game, combining Minecraft style voxels with Satisfactory style factories is something I've been watching for. C3-BB is definitely cringeworthy, though.
I love you, my dude. And you are a great youtuber, but why does everyone title the first episode getting the best start Especially when the game is brand freaking new and nobody knows what the best start is yet?
I think the bot would be cute for about 30 seconds and then I'd get annoyed. The game looks pretty but Paradox have not been winning any friends or trust recently and I'm not inclined to give them my money.
I liked c3-bb, but not in this game, I don't think it fits well, and in the short time I've heard the "beep boop" it's become annoying to me at least. And it smells just like an interface that culd be just Carl in a terminal or some thing.
C3-BB is fine, although i have it parked off into a corner. I'd like to have it doing something helpful, like acting as a slow construction/ terrain clearing/logistics bot. The progression feels good so far, by the time something becomes annoying, there seems to be an unlock within reach to mitigate it. While up until this point, it may seem like this is a ripoff of Satisfactory, it isn't. The mid game brings things that Satisfactory doesn't have. Foundry looks to be a good addition to the efficiency simulator genre, and a nice chilled experience at that. The recipes dont look too taxing, so far. The only negative so far is the controls are a bit janky, the volume of the assemblers are insane, and i dont like how a machine accepts a stack of an ingredient - it causes a temporary big drain when setting up a big branch of assemblers, or when clearing up a bottleneck. I really have no issue with Paradox. If they offend you, then just don't suppprt them.

Since you mention Steam, I would like to see a link directly to the Store page on Steam. Not Paradox.
That bot is the Office Paperclip of factory games.
I like the idea of all the machines have a panel to interact with. Neat idea.
it's very unique way to do the UI. stays out of the way, but very useful still, and most info is easily seen right away. less buttons to push
I prefer having a dedicated button for add all, add one, remove all so I can do it from any side of the machine, but this is fine. Reminds me of astroneer

So glad I'm not the only one pressing escape to clear my hands all the time... they really should add that before opening the menu!
pressing q again should clear the hands

You'll get there, it just takes time!
Hes like a master of each game he covers so fast, but i feel im always in some kind of learning phase lol
For anyone who doesn't know or didn't think of it, you can just deconstruct the little bots HUB and he disappears, and doesn't come back.
Never seen such complex yet organised and efficient way of production in Foundry. Would love if this series is continued.
I think the bot works well with the colorful cartoonish style and a bit of silly or comedic relief is always nice in such a "major planning" or "tedious fun" brainteasing type game.

i don't mind the bot thing. It doesn't make the game better, but i don't hate it either.
Modded Minecraft (Feed the Beast enjoyers here?) is what got me into the factory genre in the first place. So I'm checking this one out.
Under gameplay option you can activate paste and copy without the tablet.

Main bus building goodness begins at about 18:00

So this is Dyson Sphere Program in first person with a touch of Satisfactory in the world of MineCraft.
c3-bb is cute, might need more lines though. As to it being age dependant, I am 61.
52 :). also think it's cute. it's not at all age dependent, it's grumpiness factor :P
Is it cute? Yes. Do I want cute beepy thing in my factory game? Not really :D
71 here. I think it is annoying.
For this style of game I am not really interested in cute robots giving me quests, But looking forward to diving back in with you.
I was kind of on the fence for a while with this one, lots of automation games this year and with satisfactory hitting 1.0 sometime this year seemed a tough sell.

Id love to see more of this content as a play through

I like the cute like bot. Reminds me of the drones in slime rancher.
you can toggle the input or output priority on a balancer as well

as an adult over 35 that bot is amazing. Way better then some voice or text from nowhere.
I realy looking forward to watch your factory grow, following the game since it was on itch. I like the changes they made since then and realy hope it will grow and modders will come, too.
I realy avoid playing it like flat factorio and use those flooring only where it is needed, makes it look realy nice.
@Nilaus on your slope conveyor fabricator you need to switch your output for regular belt to an input
This really reminds me of a game called fortresscraft, I recommend if any of you are interested in games similar to this.
I'll keep an eye on this game see how it develope, the User interfaces are really nice to look at.
IT's new, it's fun and has great potential, can't wait to see if they allow modding soon.
This looks like a decent factory game. Sort of Factorio/Dyson-like. (at least before you start flying around the Galaxy in Dyson!)
I'll probably give this a try after playing through Techtonica. (Techtonica is Great!!)
Comment to show interest in a series for this game. Also, the first thing I'm doing when I find water is drowning C3-bb. That thing is CONSTANTLY in the way.
I like the bot it looks cute
This actually looks like a better/less anoying Satisfactory :D
For me this feels less like a game inspired by Minecraft tech mods and more Factorio placed inside Minecraft.
The biggest thing that makes me feel that is the progression system. Factorio has a research system, while Minecraft tech mods usually has natural system of machines allowing you to mine/process resources that can lead to new machines that further progresses stuff.
I am going to have to watch this a couple of times until my spatial awareness improves.
Love the Aussie accent on the tutorial robot.
The other robot is cute but I will probably cringe after I hear 'beep boop' more than 10 times.
Thank you for helping my have fun.
Heh, old grumpy man... I know that feeling. The big 50 for me this year. This looks interesting though I'll wait a little while, see how it evolves.
please continue the series on RUclips, want to get this game at some point. Before that want to get inspired by the series
That makes unlocking a flying mode so much more rewarding ;-)
weird i like the pov of this and satisfactory bc you get the grand scale of the machines and make really messy spaghetti. birds eye helps yes when im building but thats the jetpack and watchtower is for. i get overwhelmed weirdly with the 3rd person factory games ++ if they have enemies.
Still waiting for it to unlock. Hoping we get more then we had with the itch version.
This looks Like Fun Reminds me alot of Playing Hydroneer
Oil being an even smaller part of the whole thing than it is in, say, factorio.
I love the small Beep Boop bot
My impression from the demo was that it wasn't anything particularly different from other factory games - curious to see you get into what makes the game unique.
Depth
I do not mind C3-BB but it would be cool to have some progression for him...make him evolve into a bigger robot that eventually has voice lines
Nilaus is the tutorial!
I like C3-BB -- I can't wait to play the game!
Looks nice, looking forward to your live stream tonight! But please, put Beep Boop in a DLC, so at least I don't have to purchase it.

SC2 Protoss Probes ❤
Some of my favorite games of all time have been walking sims. But I personally have no use for narrative in a factory builder. I play them to get into a design flow state; I don't care about the Factorio engineer's backstory.
Cute robot +1
Maybe later there will be customization to make it more mech-like and less cute...
Please continue!!!
You think this cringe try oddsparks :)
Nice game! A lot of future
I am thinking of starting a new save ... for walling in that quest-bot
the bleep bloop sux!
Thank you for a good video!
Carl sounds like the guy from Clickspring
Idk kinda like C3, even if only for the sake of having something more than a disembodied voice to guide you through the game's milestones
Reminds me of FortressCraft Evolved. Looks nicer although not sure it involves digging greedily and deeply as much as that game did!
Not the best building practice, but starting factory isn't meant to last and you see things move around. :)
Yes having to use 2 loaders and 2 belts just to move from one Machine to another is painful
The bot is fine. Maybe they thought it would appeal to the more juvenile Minecraft crowd that will inevitably find this game.
you got the storage for sorters and belts mixed up. belts are forced to just one stack and sorters are full storage.
how do you raise and lower belts ?
I wouldn't go so far as to call it cringe but it is definitely something I'd rather do without
love the bot
c3-bb is the BBEG
Stacked year for automation games but the inclusion of a proprietary launcher is going to make this stay on my wishlist until I get through the other stuff
Yeah, and it's completely pointless too right now. But at least it's Paradox and not, say, Ubisoft :D
I'm a grumpy old man, so I hate the cute bot LOL
C3BB is what happens when you have marketing people in the team from the start. Perfect merchandisation.
Hello you should test Plan B : Terraform ;)
It will stay on my wishlist for now. It needs a lot of work still from what I see.
eeghhh I agree with your sentiment regarding the bot, it's too loud.

For the record, I love both Factorio and Satisfactory (and Buildcraft, and GregTech, and...); both approaches make perfect sense to me, and come with their own playstyles, designs and challenges.
I want to try this game, but what's the draw? What's special about this particular factory building game?
I think the bot would be cute for about 30 seconds and then I'd get annoyed. The game looks pretty but Paradox have not been winning any friends or trust recently and I'm not inclined to give them my money.
Are there enemies?
If they offend you, then just don't suppprt them.
this looks like 3D factorio..
