I've got 2 gigabyte cards (1 Aorus branded w/ 4 year warranty) and after seeing all these videos and end user reports, I know I'll get bent over by them if I ever need to use the warranty.

One of the selling points of the Fury X was that you could swap out the faceplate and 3D print your own (AMD gave out the STL and CAD files).
Sapphire in their infinite wisdom put a giant warranty sticker on the faceplate and covered the screws, if you peeled it off even a little bit to uncover the screws they would no longer honor the warranty.
The card was watercooled and had no fans aside from the one on the radiator and the faceplate was just a piece of plastic to hide the waterblock, it served no important feature at all.

I had a good experience with Zotac surprisingly. However this was pre-covid.
I bought a used GTX580, it was already a couple years old. It died after 6 months of light use. I couldn't RMA it because to RMA you need to register the card, which was already registered to the previous owner.
I contacted the previous owner, and he was nice enough to do the RMA for me and send over the info. I shipped the card to the RMA specified location and 3 weeks later, Zotac sent back a new GTX680. (this was when the GTX980 was already in the market)
The previous owner received the card and sent it to me.
I bought a nice special bottle of vodka (I asked him what his favorite kind of drinks are) and sent it over to the seller as appreciation for his help resolving the issue.
This 680 is still alive working on my friend's PC.
In this case, Thermaltake should have honored the warranty.

I had a somewhat simmilar experience two years ago. I brought a phone back in the store for warranty, they shipped it to the so-calle "service", where a so-called "technician" looked at it and claimed it presented water damage. How exactly he was able to see the nonexistent water damage without disassembling the device is beyond me. I also received a "service report" that stated the cost of the repairs, should I accept; the "technician" said that the mainboard needed to be replaced and stated a cost higher than the price of the entire phone. I filed a complaint to the store, then at the service in question, then finally to the authority supposed to enforce customer's rights. All three attempts heve proven fruitless.
After picking up the phone from the store, I started searching for the firmware I needed to get the phone working again. It took about a month and several attempts with various images that, although matched the name of the phone's chipset, weren't compatible, but I finally got lucky and found an image that would install and work properly.
After fixing the phone myself, I documented everything and filed another complaint to the aforementioned authority, receiving a stale reply: "you have already received a reply on this matter, and the authority cannot verify the cause of the device's malfunction".
This goes to show that warranties only exist as a concept, either because they are required by law or because they sound good on paper, but when it comes down to actually honoring said warranty, everyone tries to find excuses.

I had a RMA issue with my ASUS RTX 3080 when they said I damaged the card and said that I had to pay over 1500 Canadian to have it fixed. I had taken photos and called asus and ended up having a investigation go on without getting a update and U had to contact the CEO office in order to get updates and make sure I get a new GPU in a few weeks and not in a few months. from start to end still took 2 months

I had to RMA a Power Color RX 5700xt two times last year. They were stellar. The first time I got the card back in about 2 weeks. The second time was around June, that one took over a month but they still honored the warranty.
Sold the card after that however. Two failures in less than a year was a bad sign for me. But I will still buy Power Color in the future because of the service I received.

CyberpowerPC honored warranty on a 2 week old PC that I bought from Adorama. The Gigabyte 3070 had one bad HDMI output and the other HDMI had bad artifacting. They replaced within 2 weeks with another Gigabyte 3070. I would have preferred a EVGA, MSI, Nvidia FE or even a Zotac. CyberpowerPC gave me no hassle for the warranty claim.

Keep in mind that customer support and how they handle RMAs can heavily vary by region. I live in Germany and a fan on my ZOTAC GTX 1070 failed. They sent me over a whole Heatsink+Fan assembly without me even shipping the card back to them.
In some Asian countries you can walk into a Gigabyte store and hand in your dead card, they will repair it locally within a few days, even if it's out of warranty.

If you can take a customer's money, you also take the responsibility of delivering a working product. I hope everybody with unlawfully denied warranty sues the company that tricked them. got a gtx 1060, 3GB and a rtx 3070 from zotac before. ditched them for sudden artifacts after several months of use. if there's any consolation I've experienced from this brand, is I got them to honor their warranties but with the help of the local distributor in my country (service charge included for the gtx 1060, 3GB via extended warranty registration). funny thing is, you've taken good care of the GPUs, no tweaks were made - all at factory stock settings. Powered by a regulated electrical convenience outlet (wall socket to recommended AVR -UPS to recommended PSU) and inside of a PC case with good airflow. But 2 times with lemon units is just frustrating. I feel very bad for those with non honored warranties, esp. these trying times.
anyways, great content. it raises awareness for us consumers. keep it up & more power.

This is just a guess but for many electronics manufacturers, it is cheaper to just ship back a new card than have a group dedicated to circuit card rework. Given the shortage, there is no stock to simply send back the card (and certainly not with the current markup of the video cards). That being said, it would also be useful if the larger RUclips channels that do product reviews to find out from the vendors about their warranty policies. Or do their own warranty claim if they can and report on that as a follow-up.

I often find, though I am in the UK, it is usually the lower end of staffing that makes those decisions, however, taslk to a manager? then you may get something done.
I had this once with PCWorld (Currys) UK, wioth a friend's laptop. Had power issues as the main fault, the first time, I wasn't there, they only changed the keyboard, yeah, that's not gonna help. I went the second time, the normal staff member wouldn't help much, I explained who I was, how I am qualified with this stuf etc, about warranties and how they work and asked for their manager, they spoke to them, I spoke to them, and the manager sided with me. Though the warranty would normally not be valid by the time I was dealing withn it, it was because the original fault had NOT been sorted. So because a fault occured within the warranty time frame originally but the issues was not sorted, I think the time frame was 2 years, when I went back with my friend, it was over 2 years by then but, the warranty still had to be honoured because the fault was never fixed even though the tiomeframe was gone.
Now I do not know about the USA, but, in the UK, it goes wiothout saying, KNOW consumer rights but remember, the customer is NOT always right. You need to understand warranties. Now with pc parts, a retailer can sell custom builds and warranty for one year, however, there is also the Manufacturers warranty which can be longer. This card could also be under manufacturers warranty, but, in the UK that warrantyu to the manufacturer begins from the day you PURCHASE the item also, so you could have 1 year wrranty with the retailer, 3 years with the manufacturer, so after 1 year, no warranty with the shop, but 2 years manufacturer's warranty. Have I done this? yes. Just did all this with Corsair and Scan. K70 RGB MK2 se keyboard wasn't functioning, Corsair guided me via email on possible solutions, none worked, they were willing to RMA. Told Scan, from where I bought it, that I also worked with Corsair on solutions, Scan RMA'd it and I got a new one.
So what should you take away from this? Keep your receipts AND boxes. Why boxes? you may want to sell the item in the end and better to keep nice boxes for them, more so while warranty is valid as you may need to return the item. Keep the plastic bags inside the boxes that go around items, including anti-static bags. Store these boxes. As I said, if you should want to resell, you have the boxes which can add a value to the item, may not be much, but more attractive in that sense of value at the minimum.
IF you do not keep your receipts then manufacturers tend to go by manufacture warranty date on the item, sometimes stamped on somewhere, certainly recorded.

  • @objecttothis
    @objecttothis 2 года назад

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty act prevents the company from voiding a warranty unless they can show that modifications you made (willing or unwilling) caused the damage to the item. For example, they can't say "oh a pin on the fan header is bent so we won't honor the warranty on a dead card.

I am 100% certain they will honor their warranty on their pre-builds as well.

I don't know the law in the US, but here in France (I think in general in Europe) every company must have a 2 year warranty. In this 2 years if the product you brought to a professional stop working properly. You ship to him and if he don't want to repair it, he must provide proof that the damage was done afterwards.
But it s quite difficult, only if the graphic card was damage with water for example. So must of the time the warranty here is working.

Whilst not exactly the same in 2009 I bought a brand new plasma tv, the type that has glass over the panel like the old crts and was metal not plastic frame, a month later I moved house so I put it back in its original packaging inc foam, added a double quilt, multiple pillows and sent it by courier the premium service as the cheaper ones (10x less in cost) didn't cover televisions, it arrived destroyed and when I say destroyed likely a forklift went over it as was a split in the middle so the tv was in 2 pieces and the box was covered in bin bags, when I tried to claim they said at first "get a hold of the seller" to which I was told "its not covered as per our terms" I said "I picked the service that specifically DOES cover tv's you should check" then they changed to "when something is sent, its up to the seller/sender to ensure it arrives, not the courier, therefore theres no insurance, we just deliver it" I said that was incorrect and quoted what their insurance was at which point I was told to take them to court and slammed phone down on me!
