It´s pretty awesome, especially considering that the cars are not fictional like in other games with similar visual damage.

This is what I love in Codemasters
they would add this type of destruction but most car manufactures wont allow this, most of them dont want their cars to be "broken" in games
One thing that caught my eye when playing the game was that when you stop or change gears in a manual car, you see the driver press the clutch, getting the biting point etc - I spent like 10 minutes watching that movement 😅
It´s the little details. 7:43 for example, movement you can only dream of when playing Forza
Project cars 2 does that too

Feels more sim-ish than (for example FM7), but totally playable on a controller.
Yes the camera tracking in external view is weird...
Tbh, I like Motorsport/Track focussed games but I've always hated their external camera tracking... I know they're meant to be played in first person....but still...
Sometimes you really wanna see the map, the car and the details...but the camera just doesn't feel right...

I have come to realise that if it's not Forza people stay away from clicking.
This is the problem i was having with dirt rally too. The car seems to turn on its center instead of with the front wheels idk how to explain that. The car just sort of "spins" instead of "turning"
that´s a good way of putting it (at least from what I´ve seen in this video)

Car turns on wheels. It’s just the static camera. What makes you think that the cars on grid turns in centre. I think the static camera is great because you can focus more on racing lines.
yea games like grid, wrc and dirt have that weird 3rd person perspective. i think its because ive adapted to forza’s 3rd person that other racing games just look weird.

*But* I can´t live without a Forza-ish upgrade & tuning menu. For me, building a car is as important as racing

The game should come with car setup and tuning. I don't want fixed gears on a race car.

But I'm like good in every driving "situation".. Did very well on Karting.. Pff easy destroyings btw... And well... I didn't hold my wheel for like 3-5 years because it got broken but I will start soon if I get money what I could spend into it. And I love beating my enemies ass by better times etc. So fun xD
What this game badly needs is a slightly higher quality car menu (especially the background). Looked "cheaper" than the rest of the game/menus

Codemasters just cant make a good chasecam, they've proved that several times with the F1 Games, they just suck at it.

Forza just needs sounds like this and it would be 1000x better, sounds so real from the cabin
tis harder though when you compare the car counts between these two games.

Codemasters are top notch when it comes to car sounds, just look at Dirt or the original GRiD games, to us car guys, most of us enjoy a beefy soundtrack of exhaust pipes and turbo flutters, crackles, pops, whines, all make up for the driving experience ☺️

The camera view thingy is the same shit as in Gran Turismo. The Camera is locked behind the car which makes it look awful.

Please don't call it a Sim, and then compare it to FM7.. FM7 is definitely not a sim, and just not a good racing game at all. It's a fun game, but not Sim like at all. AC or GT would've been better comparisons.
I completely agree with the simcade camera thing. I think it's that the camera stays stationary when turning. So it moves relatively to the car which is what arcade racers do to exaggerate drifts

Ich glaube dieser Arcade 3rd person Effect resultiert aus dieser Starren Verbindung von Blickwinkel und Auto, als wäre die Kamera mit einem Stab am Auto festgemacht. Zu wenig Dynamik in der Kamera.
I believe this arcade 3rd person effect results from this rigid connection of perspective and car, as if the camera was moored to the car with a rod. Too little dynamics in the camera.

The cars are extremely "floaty" and dont seem attached to the road. As others have said, this gives the impression they are turning around a central point, which is obviously not the case.
All these games look nice but Driveclub was on another level
We need a second DriveClub. ASAP.
Driveclub look good especially in the rain but wasnt as photorealistic looking as gran turismo sport or forza horizon 4, although the rain effects on the windshield was never replicated as good as driveclub did it

Dirt Rally and Dirt Rally 2 still has the best vechicle sounds to date.

Would you say this game handles (controller / steering wheel) like Gran Turismo Sport or Project Cars 2? I’m comfortable with GT Sport but can’t get on with P. Cars 2 for some reason.

Just the same thing with Gran Turismo games the screen is turning but not the car or in other words it's Tomy Turnin' Turbo Dashboard Outrun Arcade.
That because Codemasters or Polyphony Digital can't offer massive budget to build a realistic physic game engine so they use this old school trick..

Dpi vehicles are the selling point for me. Only game I know of that has them. I hope it’s more sim than arcade though.

Why is the camera looking at the steering wheel? Half the screen is just your legs

Kleiner Notiz am rande. Der Renault R26, der der in Grid ist (obviously) ist der Wagen von Alonso von 2006. Aaalso, kein V10 mehr. 2006 wurde der V8 in die Formel 1 eingeführt. Sorry, besserwisser mag niemand, aber... I feel like I should put it right.

I noticed the exact same thing with GRiD games, DiRT games and Gran Turismo games turning. When you turn in 3rd person, it is really wierd and you end up skidding. I think it's because the camera doesn't move around the car when you turn. Forza games get the camera work really well. NFS used to have good cameras before NFS Pro Street.
The only solution is to either play in First Person or Hood/Bumper camera, or drive slowly around corners.

Ok I am now very excited for Grid. But I just have one question. How do the Honda cars sound in this game compared to Forza? Because in Forza they have pretty much always sounded terrible

55 cars and 13 tracks.. great selection. FM7, GTS, PC2, Asetto.. don't come even close. I loved Toca and Grid but those were good games back then. Races have evolved and today you have much better games on the market. I get all the nostalgia, but this game is not worth 60 euro. It won't sell well. But I guess it will make some fans happy.

I got Grid 2 for my Xbox 360, it works for my Xbox One - the camera was decent then.....
They just copy the samples from DiRT Rally. They are so good and thank god they are re-using it. Don't fix what's not broken.
This is going to get some hate but, take away the pops, cracks and bangs of the exhaust there was a couple of cars, namely the Acura DPi, sounded like it was from Gran Tursimo. Especially in the tunnel... And that's not a compliment.
I'm on the fence about Grid. It looks good, but I hate the reverse real tracks and the arcadey camera (which was pointed out). It does strike me as sim-cade, and Grid Autosport used the same titles, and that was a shocking game.
Are you using Astist like ABS or Traction Control? Make's cars very Arcadey Physics?

You're right about the third person looking too arcady for the game. My guess is it's due to the camera adjusting it's rotation relative to the car too quickly. Same thing happened in old 90's racing games where the camera wouldn't rotate for cinematic purposes like in newer games; instead it would just stick to the car's tail.
About the camera...Yeah, you have to remember that this game along with other games like it (you remember Driveclub?) have either arcade physics or some hybrid of arcade and realistic racing physics. I noticed from the game play footage of this game from the trailers and a few other places that this game has those types of physics. Maybe there is a setting to adjust the camera for your liking, but I doubt this game is going to be hardcore realistic in its physics. I think it was designed to be more accessible in this area to promote what may be a very engaging and active online racing community.

I agree with you, the camera doesn’t look right on chase cam. It almost looks like the car is floating. And the steering wheel movement on the cockpit view looks a little off too
I think you need to adjust the FOV in all your cockpit views, is to wide by default.
yes bro you are right the gameplay from 3rd person view is still looking arcade like like in the sense shaky toy moving around turns.
I always play grid on windshield view.
I hope the AI is as good as they say it is. Once online became a thing devs just gave up on trying to make good AI for single player.

Ok to be honest the lighting is good but those textures are horrid, forza motorsport 7 still looks more impressive overall compared to this imo
