So beautiful, I just love his voice. I never heard this song until I went to see Ellis Island (which is the Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears) where my Irish grandparents came into America. I am from New York State, a tiny dairy farming village which looks like Ireland in the summer. Growing up, I never even thought of going to NY City, because it was a couple hundred miles from my home. As a teenager I went there to the East Village of Manhattan to hang out with Hippies and Beatniks. A classmate told me I should go, because he had such a great time there. I had no Guidebook, no map, not a savvy traveler. This was 1968. Then I ran away from home to live in San Francisco. In the 80s I saw a PBS documentary of the restoration of the Statue of Liberty. I decided immediately that one day I would visit NY City again and see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Well I took my youngest child (he was about 20 at the time) and there I got a book with great photos of the Statue and the Island. The Ferry goes all day to both sights and you can stay as long as you like. I recommend the audio tape. It was a mind blowing experience, that first time, and just as beautiful the second. So great sharing it with my son. I also have 2 daughters who I hope will take the trip sometime. There are Hostels there for budget travelers like me. I've been to Ireland 7 times, and plan to go again when this awful pandemic ends. If it does not end, at least we can get vaccinated to be safer. Best Wishes to all fans of Irish music.
Agreed. I took my daughter to Ellis Island in November. It was a life changing experience.
If your getting the vax, get it last as its not safe... ???? I might see you in Spaniards pub kinsale some time for a few beers, but I can only drink 10 beers know because I'm not a young fella any more... Good luck and god bless ta ya...👍👍👍
Lovely story, x
Don’t get vaxed!
Very interesting thanks for sharing ❤
Isn't there something nice about this? Good song, relaxed singing and great guitars. Who says that everything should be flashing lights and loud.
In 1997 I could see him in Galway. For a young spanish girl at this time it was really exicting and a pleasure. Now it's a pleasure to hear him again when we all are a little bit older.
KEEP SINGING SEAN. IT KEEPS US GOING IN THOSE STRANGE TIMES. THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT SONGS AND ALL THE STORIES BEHIND THEM.
Currently, Sean is performing live podcasts on Facebook on Sundays. There was one yesterday. facebook.com/seankeanesinger

Sean you would bring a tear to a glass eye. Beautiful song, beautiful rendition. 😢 👍👏🇮🇪🇮🇪
I had heard several thompson versions and several other folks doing this tune, but sean's version took my breath away. This combination of irish accent, and phenomenal tone; AMazingl best version ever. could make a grown man cry.
Old style of singing that is grand and easy on the ear, tasteful guitar work too,..... slainte
Those guitarists can play.
Seanos great singer
Had the pleasure of sharing a few pints and a whiskey or two. With sean in falcarragh one friday night and the next day ran into him on tory island and had the pleasure of seeing him play a few tunes in the bar and it was amazing total. And utter gentleman thank you Sean!
A British comedian made a drunken bet with a friend in a Pub in England. He was challenged to hitch-hike around the perimeter of Ireland hauling a small refrigerator, within in a 30 day time frame. Read the book to find out why and who won! Tory Island was one of the places he had to visit. I have been to Northern Ireland, but did not go to Tory Island; I went to Cape Clear Island in County Cork for two nights. The weather was good, and I hiked around. The Hostel is an old Coast Guard Station. The sea was calm, so I did not get sea sick. Bring warm clothes if you go. One tiny Cafe and a tiny food market both in the same building. Two Pubs, one closed (for sale) lovely area.
The book is "Round Ireland With a Fridge" by Tony Hawkes.
An absolutely beautiful song, it would bring a tear to your eye, you get lost in the lyrics. True artistry
Here we are in March of 2020 and how true is this song in the time of a pandemic both here and our home, Mother Ireland bring us through this in our fear and tears in our new found land the USA make us strong like Annie and her siblings were and also the Austrian man who stepped aside to let them come in first. Whether you were chosen from the Western area of Europe or the restricted 26 we built America then and now.
This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard I must say. I absolutely love my Irish music but this one escaped me until recently! Stunning version Seán, Pat and Fergus. Go raibh maith agat!
Beautiful song, but it's terribly sad. The line about Ireland being the Isle of hunger and pain. Ireland has come a long way. Fair play Sean!
Wonderful song , performed by a unique voice (as well as the two guitar companyments)!
Great musicians & FAB singer. Lovely to listen to such a talented singer.
Beautiful
Brings me to tears every time I hear it
It is absolutely not possible to have a day out sailing without having sung that beautiful song for me

Love how that story in the beginning shows kindness and how so many immigrants experience the same thing. Beautiful and moving music!
Lovely Sean, my grandparents passed that way in 1912
Marvelous Session, marvelous voice, i love the song ❤❤❤
My great Grandmother came through Ellis Island in the 1800 from Ireland. I think about this country and how it was a refuge for so many. And today we have a coup living in the peoples White House. I pray everyday that we the people take back our country and make it beacon of hope once more.
A big fan of Sean's wonderful voice a great song

A class act one of best I'll go back to see again brilliant sean
One of a kind - the best
I sing this one regularly, love it, but my first time 2 c this version. Superb...
The old fashion intimacy of a small house concert was superb that evening.
my grandpa, jewish, also came through Ellis island...fantastic song
Best version. However, the man was German and barged past Annie to the front of the queue but the customs officer told him "stand back! Ladies first". She was actually 17 not 15 and her parents were in New York for 3 years before sending for their other 3 children. Annie married a man of German parents who patented Macaroon sweets. Half of Annie's 11 children died sadly and she died aged 50, morbidly obese of heart failure in Manhattan. The statues in Cobh and Ellis Island are of the wrong Annie Moore who was killed by a car in Texas.
The voice goes to the heart
He just sings it so effortlessly.. brilliant 👏
Yes so it appears..yet that appearance is one built from a core extending over the decades...sitting or standing relaxed can be simply gorgeous. Same goes for both guitarist, Pat & Ferguson...deeply love this story..it plays a huge part of my core..thank you Sean and thank you Tim for graciously offering here. Peace-Luv
Amazing
My grandmother was a Moore...my Mom Maggie Anne. Very touching for me!❤❤❤🥀

Really moving rendition. I also like the way the guitar and (octave mandolin)? compliment each other.

Very beautiful but very sad.
Lovely song. Wonderful singer
Thankyou, USA, for taking in and looking out for the siblings of my ancestors, Howleys, Cannys, Riordans, Ryans, Streitches, Hacketts, Kellys who left Ireland in the 1850s and made their way to the other side of the World. 93 % of emigrees, fleeing death, went to the North Americas. In more recent years, we've re united with some. God Bless America. Let nobody of Irish ancestry speak ill of that most generous of nations.
My daughter is learn this in school at moment she loves it and history .
Pure Music...wonderful! Thanks so much.
Absolutely high class.. there is no more like his like in the industry worldwide... Now one has to be beautiful and sexy to be a singer...
Try the whistling donkeys version..
you won't be disappointed..
Very good Sean and the two boys
*_Got to be the most talented family to come out of Ireland. Go hálainn ar fad Seán a chroí..._*
Aontaim leat a Mhichil.
Love that song. :)
Good man Sean 👍
Beautiful. Thank you.
Good but check out PADRAIG MOR ON YOU TUBE...beautiful singing and Irish scenic beauty...ahhhh....cried.....
Wasn't aware that Dolores and Sean were sister and brother, though I wondered given the relatedness of their sean nos singing style. Very talented family, quite obviously, channelling some very profound stuff beyond their ages.
Yes and their Aunts before them
Very talented and very well liked
Brillant and its so sad we are loosing this sing songs in ireland were just too modern now
Take the ferry out to the charming wee island of Inisheer in the Galway Bay. At the Hotel Pub right by the pier, they were singing rousing Rebel Songs last time I was out there.
Not so. The younger people in their teens and 20s are gone crazy for this music. Visit any music pub or music venue in Ireland and you wouldn't believe the enthusiasm for this music. And they sing along with such gusto. Far from forgotten by the younger comer-ups.
Simply beautiful.
Your right
So beautiful ❤
To my darling cousin S Dan ,I miss u.Looking mighty.Love u .Carox

Such history for us irish
Thank you.
Love the little look over shortly after 6:30 🤨
Dolores dose a fair old version of this beautiful song.
great
And still they have to leave. 2008-2016
I like your music
You sang for uncle Tom the time
Ten out of ten
Does anyone have a source for the Austria man story? I have some Austrian students and I think they would love it
My mother went through it on her way
My grandmother Annie Reidy went to America about that time. The song could almost be about her although she did come back
I had relatives who went out there only never to come back and to disappear.
My ancestors went to Ellis Island … but I don’t know what happened them - I hope they had a better life
Pat's DI is not plugged in .. . great version of this lovely song.
☘🇮🇪💚☘Beautiful 100%
Me too
pity about the banshee in the chorus
I laughed so hard over your comment. It could be me, that banshee, but I'm glad it wasn't this time. We're all in the chorus, after all. :-)
The Molly Maguires Band. Pat
