I’d like to say something about Cam Talbot that a lot of people don’t get to see. He came in to the restaurant I work at and was a phenomenal person. He was a regular and treated everyone with an undeniable amount of respect and I feel like I can speak for my coworkers in saying that him and his wife Kelly are welcome anytime at Mati!
Ottawa vs. Buffalo will be a really close race in the standings. Might just come down to which team can stay healthier. Korpisalo looked really good last year, especially at the end of the regular season when he got to LA.. if he can play like that here he will be worth every penny
@@matthewgregory8218 No spot is guaranteed in the Atlantic this year. Good chance Ottawa and Buffalo both make it. Could be Tampa Florida Boston out, maybe even Toronto. It’s going to be a year long battle and murderers row of opponents in the east.

Guys, I'm a Sens fan, but feel you are evaluating Buffalo through a Sens lens. This is especially true for D. Our D has “star power” with Chabby, Sanderson and Chych, but I don’t think it’s well constructed. We have too many L shooting D and I don’t really think a well constructed team needs 3 star D. You need 2 stars and (at least) 3 complimentary players. Otherwise you are overpaying on D. The Sabers have a superstar (we don’t) on D and a star in power. They really only need to complement those two on the top 4 and have solid guys on the bottom pair. It is t fair to compare them to our roster construction because ours may be (probably is) flawed. Sens have done the same thing in the top 6 with Tarasenko. Great, he can score, but doesn’t fit easily into the top 6 and is making someone else move down or play out of position. That feels like a mistake (unless Bath is out for a while). And he is defensively terrible, which we know is an are that requires improvement if we are going to make the playoffs or compete for the cup. With both Chych and Tarasenko I feel like Dorion chased a name over need. Right now Chych is on a good value contract, but we can’t keep all our D long term… Anyhow, love the thought provoking analysis. this is well done.
This comment is only coming 4:21 seconds in to the podcast so please excuse me if this comment does come up as a later reason, but Matt Murray and Cam Talbot are two firm reasons why goaltending come in at an avg of 7 or lower. Best case scenario, Korpisalo comes in as a version of Craig Anderson but that’s a tall task as well. I hope he does well himself but there isn’t a strong track record of solid goaltending in Ottawa
From a Sabres perspective I think this was a fair, if not generous to Buffalo, analysis. I think Ottawa has a bit better roster currently. But a substantial factor to consider is that Ottawa has only signed 18 players and has less than a million in cap space remaining. While Buffalo has 24 players signed and $6M in cap space remaining, with basically no trade restrictions on their contracts. So if they want to they can replace Olofsson, Jokiharju and Comrie with a $5M+ player on each position. Which would give them equivalent goaltending to Ottawa, it would improve Power's pair to the point where Buffalo's top 2 pairs should be better than Ottawa's and improve their second line to something equal to Ottawa's second line. Now, this wont happen because Buffalo's GM is far too conservative for that at this point. But one of these holes should get filled at least and even out the lineups nicely for the start of the season and let the 6 team fight for 2-4 playoff spots commence.
Id take Ottawa's top 9, their defense and their goaltending over buffalo's. There isnt much debate in my head apart from two top guys on the sabres (thompson and dahlin) which I think Stutzle will leapfrog Thompson, and having Chychrun Sanderson AND Chabot accounts for Dahlin's contribution
I can see tarasenko on timmys line, just given how he was able to connect with giroux and help him reach a career high. I feel like, health permitting, tarasenko could reach 40 goals again with timmy. I can also see giroux doing really well on a line with norris and batherson. Third line should be good as well, pinto centering kubalik and likely grieg. Greig dished out some pretty assists with giroux, hoping he can find that chemistry with pinto, kubalik, or both. Sens could have three very effective production lines next season, and i think the competition on the 4th line is going to lead to better production there as well. This team should be competitive this season, injury bug permitting
@@googleisshit3220Timmy is going to have to figure that out. DJ should have been working on that last year (last 2 years) instead of shielding him so much. We can have a 1C who doesn’t take faceoffs long term, and you can’t learn without doing it.
Few things: - Greig is going to be a big impact player (think Sam Bennett) soon. Could very well be this year if he impresses in camp (which he will) or injuries/trades necessitate. - Smejkal and Sokolov feel like the easy solve to most Sens fans woes. Have Kelly and Mac, or 2 mutants who know how to distribute. Foot speed and camp will tell. - Sandy wins Norris before Power. Granted, a little bias and more viewings of Sanderson but through all my years watching and loving this game, it’s been a long time since I saw a defencemen so complete at such a young age.
Simple add and subtract says Ottawa will be better. Chychrun needs to stay healthy. Or he’ll get a bandaid rep
FYI the reason Quinn’s name was not on the cap friendly page is because he tore his Achilles and he’s out until December at least

I hope you guys know nobody is taking on Joseph's contract. Brannstrom is probably getting moved and we will get good value for him.
Buffalo finished the season with Cozens/Quinn/Peterka as the 2nd line (the Kid Line). Quinn is out until Dec with an offseason training injury.
