I have to tell you I am a new ham getting my Tech and Gen ticket last year. I don't have an HF rig yet but watching you work on one was amazing. You are a great teacher. I hope you keep posting videos. Much can be learned from you. Thanks again.
Hi, I'm not a serviceman only homebrewer but with great attention watch your videos that will teach me a lot ... useful to me it's all about what you say in your videos. Thanks a lot. Witek SP5TAA.
A surprisingly interesting pair of videos and I'm sure the owner of the TS2000 was very grateful for the time you spent on the repair. Regards Nidge (G0NIG)
Absolutely excellent videos. Much to be learned from this. Great teaching. English is preferred and his is excellent. Hope we get more like this!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am having a very similar problem with my TS-480 receiver. I've already narrowed down that I too am loosing signal somewhere in the same area so thanks for the video, it will give me some more items to check. I will update with my findings later as I can.
I know this is an old video. I'm wondering if you ever replaced the capacitor to keep the DC off the filter, and if so what value of capacitor. Great video.
No, never, simply because it is a myth to put caps in front of the filter to prevent DC to the filter. If you look into the data sheets, there is nothing mentioned. But more important is that I have never found in decades that a filter was failing because of a missing cap.
@@TRXLab Thanks for the reply I greatly appreciate it. I was going to put on in but then I didn't want to have to remove part of the trace. I know of another that hasn't had an issue either. I have the filters coming for mine.
Thanks for your reply. I have not had it on the bench yet. I have been studying for my Extra test.(Ham). I passed it over the weekend. I will look at my cobra this weekend. It is a pleasure to watch you work.
I'm having the same issue; it just started. Main band VHF and UHF has low AF, meter indicates strong signals. Sub-band is okay as expected, HF band is okay too. I can be listening to a repeater on Main band using VHF and the AF will just drop to almost nothing. Turning off the radio and back on clears up the issue. Going to have to dive into the service manual.
You have tested many receivers,I hear the ts-2000 is deaf on hf..But you seemed very impressed with it on the service bench..How does it compare to others in your eyes?
tim jude Hi Tim, that is a long story to go into depth but the TS-2000 is definitely a very good mid class receiver. Well this RX has RF, 50MHZ, VHF, UHF and if installed SHF on board. A pure RF high class RX can do thinks better but then you compare not the same league. I have heard the same but it is not true. So don't let you make yourself uncertain. 73
@@T0mmy999 I bought a few different 180nH Inductors from Mouser and used one of them. I believe the part I used was Mouser #81-LQW18ASR18J0CD... I do not know if that was the one I should have used but I did have to send the unit out and had it re-aligned and tested and that part was not reported to have been an issue.
ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT tutorial on finding the problem here. Really enjoyed your enthusiasm and explanations, especially when you found the problem! THANKS! Jack KE0VH KE0VHJackTV
Good content, lots of repetition, lots of "uh" and wandering dialog. Know what you want to say, don't repeat so much, try not to say "uh" and "uh yah, well". Get to the point. Your logic is good. Your test gear is great and your voice nice to listen too if not for what I suggested. Keep up the videos!
+BigDawg Poochman Hi, thanks for comment. Please compare this video with an actual video and let me please know if you see any improvement. All the best and Cheers

thanks for your feed back! The only limiting factor for producing such videos is time. But I try going :-)

+Shawn McClintock Thanks for feed-back Shawn and good luck with the repair. Let us know the result! 73
well, so far I've not figured it out, so going to have to do lots more digging I am afraid.
+Shawn McClintock no worry keep going, sometimes we all have to be patient...
Useful to me as I've just bought one of these rigs. Thank-you.

Great Repair.
I liked the injection method to find the problem.
Hi Grant, you can use the same method with AF on your Cobra or is it already done? Have you checked what I guessed? What was the problem?
Thanks for your reply.
I have not had it on the bench yet.

a okay , good look for your test!
Great video! Just need to find out why the same thing is happening but only on VHF and UHF...

Why not change the 2032 backup cell while you have the covers off? Great vid by the way, please keep them coming.
not sure after the time but I believe I have tested it good.

I use finger nail polish and sealer for all sorts of electronic uses! Good job! Danke! 73 Rod KB8DNS
poikaa3 Thanks Rod for your feed back 73
So what did it cost ? to repair that radio . And how much time did it take them to get it back .
$245 and 16 weeks
Did you place back the DC-blocking diode at the ceramic filter input?
Mikael Karlsson Yes of course...
+Mikael Karlsson Mikael, that was a capacitor, not a diode.
nice video, nice repair, great class !!!
and nice accent !
73
Thanks for you feed back. Yes the best is my bloody German accent :-)
Its OK. I am from Brasil and my accent is wrost than yours. But ham radio guys understand one each others perfectly.

And nice winds

you are right that is what Ham Radio is for :-)
Same component on mine has gone, the Inductor at 180NH but now obsolete, can't find anywhere, is there an alternative or equivalent part?
any luck finding a replacement? I've been searching for a datasheet or something that would give some idea of what to get.

Lightening strike maybe.
God trying to get rid of such an ugly rig.
+Peter Walker Yeah lightening strike is very likely. Thanks for watching
or, field day next to a couple kW transmitting on the same receive frequency?
i think its quite a handsome rig.

Bigdawg Poochman a little critical don't you think? Paul is speaking in a second language while producing fantastic content for his channel.
My TS-2000 has this same exact problem and Kenwood wont ever touch it.
