We started our volunteering journey from the beautiful village of Turtuk, a small paradise located on the Indo-Pak border. This village was part of un-divided India until 1947, post which it became part of Gilgit - Baltistan or PoK. After the Bangladesh Liberation war of 1971, Turtuk along with 2 other villages, became part of the Indian territory.
Being a border village, for almost 40 years till 2010, this place was restricted for access by outsiders. But then it was opened up for tourism and since then it has become a popular destination for tourists visiting Nubra Valley in Ladakh.
We got lucky as we got to spend 6 months in this quaint village and we also had time to observe the lifestyle, listen to the stories, cover some hidden spots and much more during this period, things that are not known to the tourists and famous only amongst the locals.
In today’s video we are going to share some of these lesser known aspects about this amazing village.

Hello Seeking soul's..Hats off to your work & dedication. Really in love with leh ladakh..Finally my dream comes true..Visiting leh on 16th july.. Eagerly waiting to visit Turtuk ...Due to time constraint i am spending only 1 night at turtuk .Kindly advice best homestay for the same. If possible also guide for Nubra n Pangong best stay..We want to enjoy like locals thats the reason looking for good homestay where we can explore local Balti culture, cuisine etc..Even want to donates stationary to your school.Below is my itinerary .
16th july -Srinagar to kargil
17th & 18th july -leh
19th july -Turtuk / Nubra stay
20th July- Turtuk / Nubra stay
21st - Pangong stay
22nd -Leh
23rd - Leh
Kindly advice on 19th & 20th july stay as local agents are asking to stay at turtuk 1st n then at nubra as from turtuk to pangong journey is very hectic.
Kindly advice ..Thanks a ton for your lovely videos
Hey ! You can try Ismail homestay, Karakoram homestay in Turtuk and yes Nubra will be a better option for you to travel to Pangong. Unfortunately, we don’t know any homestays in Nubra.
Thanks for your advice! From leh I am directly going to turtuk n next day to nubra n then pangong stay...Super excited..Yes I have contacted Ismail Jee n Maha guest house..
Hiiii guyssss, we will be coming to turtuk tomorrow, and wanna meet you guys too... we have been watching you guys for a long time and really impressed with your decision to stay there, Are you in turtuk now? Is it possible to have a quick catch up
Heyy !! So sorry we left from Ladakh about a year ago.. 😊 thank you so much for following our journey ⭐️
@@TheSeekingSoul oh. Ok. Congratulations. Where have you guys shifted to?
Im in love with your videos. Thanks for all your effort. We are planning with my husband to spend 5 weeks in Ladakh and Jammu / Kashmir area. we are going to do some treks and they take 3 weeks of our intinerary. You inspired us to do some volunteering but ar the moment our schedule is too tight. is is possible to do 1-2 days of voluntary work?
Thank you guys !
Hey guys !! So so happy to know that you liked our videos.. 😊 1 or 2 days is too short however, I would suggest that you pay visit to the Turtuk Valley School and meet the kids. If you think you can do some activity or some workshop kinda thing.. that would be great. For example - once we had a NCC trainer for few hours and he did some team building activity with the kids and it was fun. Other time we had a person who got some stationary for the kids and she took a small art workshop for the kids. So you can think something in these lines or else just a visit and interaction or probably sharing your trekking experience - some stories - will be good. You can contact Sarah, the principal of the TVS school on Instagram - @sarah_shah_ or ping me on Instagram - I will share her mobile number.
Hello seeking souls … hats off to you both for the work you are doing … we are travelling to Leh Ladakh this July 22 … quite excited little nervous also as heard about AMS … would like to know how to take care of ourselves … we will be doing typical group trip as this time we did not have much time to plan our trip … also don’t have much warm clothes so is it possible for us to buy it there in Leh market on the second day as first day we will be resting in hotel only… would like to buy few good things pls guide … would also like to meet you ppl it’s so nice to see your videos they are so informative
1. Its generally advised to do a minimum 24 hours to 48-hours acclimatisation in Leh post arriving during which you should drink a lots of water, rest/sleep a lot and not exert yourself at all. To be extra careful, you can also consult your doctor who may advise you a course of Diamox on reactionary/precautionary basis.
2. there are a bunch of shops to buy warm clothes in Main Market as well as Nowshera Market. You can catch our video on Shopping in Leh ruclips.net/video/lu3XD4Lsx_Q/видео.html to get some idea.
3. We are currently based out of Kargil. If its on your itinerary, pls let us know, we would love to catch up.
Love from kargil❤️❤️❤️❤️
thank you!
😍😍😍😍
Hi, you both are doing a great job, I'm too interested in volunteering in remote areas specialy in educational field, I have served as a teacher in a school. I wish to volunteer in remote areas, but I am concerned about the expenses also, that will the stay and will provided free of cost by NGOs or will we have to bear that? Please provide this information.
This has come at the very right time as we are going to visit Ladakh in July. However , we are having a tough time to book a vehicle for our trip. Any recommendations?
U should try for a sharing cab easily available .. only u have to visit any local tour operator otherwise vehicle price is hell expensive.. I just returned back from my ladakh tour..
@@nehakalakoti261 yesss.. really. So so expensive. So you mean to say that we can book it directly once we are there?? Availability is not an issue?
Yes u can book it directly.. we did the same . We booked a shared cab for 5 days 2days nubra, 1pangong ,1 tsomorari n nxt 1day for tsomorari to leh.. it costs around 40k.. but tour operator managed 4 more ppl along wid us .. so this cost divided n we payed only 13,400
Thanks so much Neha, this is very helpful..!
:) You girls got it all sorted
❣️
☺️
Great video of a beautiful place, made by you in a very interesting way. I am planning to be in leh & Turtuk for 1 week each place in July/August. The purpose is to see & appreciate the natural beauty, understand the life of locals ( especially at Turtuk) and in someway contribute to the society in general, there.
Can you suggest me some folks in whose place we could stay ( on a payment basis of course), if we need some government permit to stay there? Please be so kind to respond.
You can look for Ismail bhai (runs Ismail Homestay). The permit requirement for visiting and staying in Turtuk was removed mid-last year.
@@TheSeekingSoul Thank you so much for this input. Incase you people are still there, would come and meet you as well ( if convenient to you).
@@TheSeekingSoul Hello Sudhanshu & Ankita. Could you please give me the number of Ismail bhai? I intend to stay at his homestay for 2 days in the middle of July.
Ma'am and sir visit itcho village .
We will hopefully soon. Inshallah
