My favorite thing about this video: Half of these people think you're a girl who looks like a boy, the other half think you're a boy who looks like a girl, and ALL of them think WE'RE the idiots who don't have gender properly figured out.
I mean gender is kinda a stupid thing made up by people like John Money (who was a paedophile). The thing that actually matters is sex, and always has been
When people imply sexuality is a choice, I challenge them to "choose to be gay" for just 15 minutes. When they inevitably say they can't, I say 'presto'. One's sexuality is not a choice, whether you accept it or repress it is the only choice :) Cheers Emma! (and for the benefit of those who say, "older and wiser", I'm 45 lol)
If homosexuality is a choice, why is it observed across so many animal species as well? Not saying that humans are the only sentient species around - but I would be rather surprised if ravens or dolphins gave a s..t about human societal “trends”.
"Such a basic atheist channel"... As if Christians haven't been regurgitating the same debunked rhetoric forever. This was a fun video. Thank you for curating a Greatest Hates Playlist so we don't need to wade through the comments ourselves.
If only christians tried something new, like playing The Binding of Isaac on Twitch. Wouldn't have the slightest chance of converting me, but it would be more entertaining than listening to the upteenth rehash of Pascal's wager.
@@nicolasandre9886 I havn't come across a good Pascal's Wager attempt for a while now. Mostly I see vague attempts at ad hominems, and a steady stream of "You believe everything comes from nothing lol!" variants... probably because they don't understand the answers.

"god left you to judge others' As a fellow atheist that cracked me up more than it probably should have. The thought a god left someone who doesn't believe in him to judge others is exactly the type of christian thinking I've come to expect.
I wanted to contribute some of my life experience. I am 47 years old, a combat veteran, a math teacher in a small American town, and an atheist. Screw the haters. You are bi and that seems to me to have nothing to do with religion. You give good skeptic content. You positively represent both science and feminism. Don’t feel put off by the freaks and detractors. Keep the videos going.
As I told a friend once, "How I yearn for the days where sexual orientation has as much impact on a person as something like... hair color preference." Imagine a world where a girl saying she's into girls would garner the same "huh, okay, cool for you" reaction as saying "oh, I'm more attracted to redheads than blondes". Wouldn't that be wonderful?
My kid often says this. They’re non-binary and bi and often says that one day people won’t have to come out or say they’re gay or bi. They’ll just say “hey, that guy is cute do you know him?” or “oh, I really like them, maybe I’ll try to talk to them.” And my kid says one of the first questions will be “what are your pronouns?” and no one will think anything of it.

It’s soo funny how trans guys who have beards and deep voices and generally just look like stereotypical men get told all the time that they’re “so obviously women and not fooling anyone”. yet all a cis woman has to do to be seen as a man by the same people is have short hair and wear a shirt 😂
This is why I say that "gender critical" people are misogynists, no matter how much the claim they're just trying to protect the rights of cis-women... You can't promote a culture that consequently leads to cis-women having their gender questioned and call yourself a "feminist." Transwomen are women, and transmen are men. Those who disagree necessarily promote a culture that is by definition highly misogynistic.
Same. The amount of people who think I'm a trans woman because I have green hair and a deep voice is insane. I find it funny, though if I was actually trans I'd be pissed.
"If you are anything under the bi umbrella, remember: you are valid and I see you. Also, remember that we are visible this month... so don't commit any crimes" You are so awesome Emma 😆
I Love how the comments about you judging other people, don't even realize that they are judging you. I guess they could just ask for forgiveness from whoever they worship.
I love how some of these "slurs" are things I'd think would be real fun to be. Like being an actual witch doctor with actual witch doctor powers sounds amazing. Really happy you let us laugh at these angry silly people together with you.
P.S.: I came out as bi in 2020, when I was 59. I've been this way, as well as presenting some symptoms of ASD, all of my life. The majority of reaction that I've received, from my employer and coworkers, to immediate family members and longtime friends, has been a wonderful mix of "Happy Pride, so glad to see you having the courage to be yourself," and "yes, I pretty much figured that out years ago, So glad you are able to be yourself and not be afraid anymore." I've been extraordinarily blessed with a wonderful support network of friends, immediate family, coworkers, my employer (which has an open policy of strong support for its LGBT employees to be honest about their sexuality and gender without fear in the workplace), and many others, mostly old acquaintances, who pretty much figured out that I was "different" years ago and have no problem with it. Surprisingly, one of my best friends who has remained a close and tolerant friend who expressed his congratulations at being honest with myself is a man who is a lifelong fundamentalist christian evangelist. He began his response by saying that Jesus, in the bible, didn't just break bread with observant devoutly religious people, but he went among, broke bread with, and told jokes with and gave comfort to "people who were, at that time in Judea, considered outcasts, and in marginalized communities, who were looked down upon and not acknowledged by almost everyone, and yet he recognized them, stayed in their houses, and refused to treat them as invisible." In my life, I have found very few people who are declared christians, whatever their sectarian background, who have more eloquently expressed the compassion and humanity to be found in the teachings attributed to Jesus than this man has, nor had the fortitude and goodness in their innate conscience to put it into practice. This guy has never tried to proselytize me into joining his religion, or condemned me for being myself, and is, in fact, a fellow musician who I like to send rough drafts of my music when I'm working on a new piece, because he has great insights into what is working on a potential piece, and what might need to be dropped from an arrangement. I can't believe, for all the trauma and misunderstanding I suffered as a child, and later as a teenager in high school, that I have been so lucky as to have the right people in the right place at the right time in my life to step out and find my freedom. Wanted to share some good news with you from one wordy old hippie with long curly gray hair everywhere except on top, who is happy to be free to be himself, and in the middle of Texas, at that.

How does one imagine not believing in a thing? Doesn't that first require a fundamental understanding of what that thing is first? From what I gathered most Christians are far from having this one figured out, consequentially the ones that do usually become atheists.
Christians have a hard time understanding the lack of belief in a higher power. I grew up Christian and became an atheist, my sister cannot understand at all when she has tried asking me about my lack of faith (in an effort to make me become a Christian again).
While the garbo messages I receive online are not as absurd & malicious as what Emma is sharing here, I’ve found the act of sharing them with my brother for us both to jeer at together makes those words far less personal. Hm, I guess by actively turning it into a group activity of contemplative absurdism, we end up genuinely feeling as if we had both stumbled upon some internet anger just lying around, asking to be mocked and appreciated for the smallness that it is rather than the largeness it attempts to sell itself as.

@@phakeacount2228 Do some critical thinking on double standards? A hegemonic culture does not devalue the impact on racism against members of said culture. Take the Tutsi and Hutu for instance. The Tutsi being the hegemonic culture for hundreds of years does not justify the genocide committed by the Hutu? It also doesn't mean that every single Tutsi profited from "their" hegemonic culture (as mostly rather a minority of said hegemonic culture really profits in such cases). Thus your regular exclusion of every member of what you perceive as a hegemonic culture is bigoted and inherently racist itself, yes? 🤔 Categorizing humans in segregated groups of relevancy by people with your world view was practiced before in history, for instance by Nazi Germany or the Khmer Rouge (background of education) with terrible consequences as you probably know? The lady was shocked when I told her my age, but still wouldn't let me buy it on my own! I worked at a school a while back and one of my stepdaughters did some work experience there when she was 18 or 19. After the week was over, one of the office workers- who had known me for a couple of years at that point - asked if it wasn't strange that I had a stepdaughter that was so close in age to me. I was caught completely off guard and asked her how old she thought I was. Mid-20s she guessed. I was just about to turn 40. I have never seen someone look so shocked in my life. I am 48 now and had a nurse's appointment last week. She did a double take when she looked at my age and then she and the student nurse (who was probably about my age, she had a later career change) kept saying to each other how young I looked. It doesn't feel bad as you get older when people think you're younger, but it's still disconcerting (and hilarious) when people get seriously shocked. It does become irritating when someone confuses feminism with misandry. A feminist fights for equality, and misandry is fighting for female supremacy. This is how my friend explained it to me in high school
As a bi woman I know what it feels like to have people not believe u & even try to push u into a specific narrative. While I've never had someone think I was non-binary, I have been mis-gendered by accident a few times to which the person then corrected themselves. I've also had people think that if I were to marry a man I would suddenly become straight or if I married a woman I would become gay. Those people just can't seem to wrap their head around what being bi actually means
23:16 - 23:55 ALL. OF. THIS. I've never been comfortable with being called a "Male Feminist." Yeah, so when I was about 9-10, the people in charge of my Sunday school thought it would be appropriate to listen in on a conversation I was having with my friend about things we had been dreaming about to interject their opinion about a story I had told. Essentially, I was describing a sleep paralysis episode, but I didn't know that. I didn't know what was going on, so I guess I was seeking validation that it was normal in my friends, and if I didn't succeed in that, it would be an interesting story to tell my peers. That was when my Sunday school teacher called me over, seeming extremely concerned. She proceeded to tell me a story from her own life about her sister who experienced the same thing, but it was a demonic presence that was inhabiting her home doing this to her every night. That one conversation inspired a fear of the dark so intense that I couldn't sleep without a light on for months. So people who spout that shit, does it feel like you're helping? Because if you're okay with reigniting ancient fears within a 10 year old kid, you better think it's goddamn necessary. Not everyone can handle hearing that, especially not from people they trust to tell them the truth. But I'm mostly good now :) Happy Pride!

Purple nails are terrible. Almost as bad as putting pineapple on pizza. I love me a good ham and pineapple pizza and anyone being upset about pineapple on pizza should simply not order one.
@@advorak8529 I really like pineapple on pizza, but once I had one where it had been a little overcooked, and the pineapple had this sort of edge to the flavour that was very reminiscent of throwup. The crazy part about people giving you shit for having short hair is that if a guy had your exact haircut they'd be like "dude, why do you have a chick's haircut?"
Good work, Jasper! That's the best modelling of Emma's old glasses by a puppet I have ever seen! Edit: Regarding the comments questioning your choice of partner/queerness... I seem to recall that simple maths can show why most bi folk end up in straight-passing relationships. Simply put, there are far more straight potential partners than there are queer potential partners. Regardless, why do they seem to think that being attracted to the same sex as well as the opposite/other sexes means you *can't* be in a straight-passing relationship? Like, does you liking women as well mean you are not allowed to have a male partner? Further edit: I had to try watching at 2x speed, and holy dog, chipmunk Emma! Yet another edit: Emo Betty Rubble was the best descriptor, though the charming Mrs Rubble had black hair if I recall, and was therefore more emo than you, making her the Emo Emma Thorne (or you the non-emo Betty Rubble?).
Betty was dark haired, yes. Rosie did a pretty good job of it in the movie. John Goodman killed it as Fred too, but Fred is genuinely usually a bad person hahah
I think a lot of the bigots can't get their minds around the fact that _everyone_ outside their insular bubbles uses sexual orientation to describe who people are attracted to, not a description of who they are sleeping with/have slept with/wish they could sleep with. This leads to a lot of slanderous stereotypes about bisexuals when it doesn't result in bi erasure. With the bi and ace erasure, and possibly the fractal wrongness of trans denial, it leads to them assuming anyone who self-describes as "queer" must be _gay,_ and they can't work out how a queer person could be in a straight-passing relationship within the framework of those assumptions. _Also,_ fascist purity rhetoric has them claiming if they don't oppress queer people everyone will catch The Gay and nobody will procreate, so they _might_ think (or claim to think as an excuse to oppress the queer community) once you're "corrupted" you won't want a straight(-passing) relationship.
My favorite part of watching videos like this - even hate comments count as interaction... and we all know what interaction does ;D Shhh, I wont tell, I promise.

The context for "Y chromosome + 52% + cope" is its an anti-trans dogwhistle, presumably because they assume you're a trans woman. The gist of it is "Y chromosome mean man so you're a man" and "52 percent of trans people commit suicide" which I don't even think is the right number for the statistic that they're trying to quote, and even then its taken out of context, and refers to rate of suicide attempts among trans folks with unsupportive family.
Absolutely fantastic as usual Emma. Always treat the haters the way you do, nothing is more aggravating to their type than - Pretty, Clever, and the ability to voice your own opinions. With that combo you can never loose to them. Know you bring more joy to the world than sorrow and all without some Space Spaghetti Monster God telling you how to behave!

I'm religious (Not any organized religion, but I do believe in a higher power) and I absolutely love your videos. Fundamentalism and being anti-science is a modern plague, and it's always good to see people going after these groups that are often protected by media and politicians.
I think this is another area that needs more definition in terminology. It's possible for people to believe in a God without identifying with a specific religion, "religious" doesn't seem the right word for it, but people use "theist" to describe religion apologists... idk...
Consider this plus one vote for the comedy sketch about smoking cigars. Although I think you filmed this video a year ago, so maybe you already did one
Thanks, Emma. Some genuine 'Snort coffee out of my nose', comments there! Why is it either, punctuation or faith, with these religious types, and never both? Good job, Jasper, BTW.
It can be fun to do the Conspiracy Catz thing of reading them out as if you're describing exactly how they were written: "Eternity is {two spaces} a long-guh-guh time {three exclamation marks} {three full stops} {two spaces} {no capital letter} one day God will call uh tuh him and uh will find out that the wrong about everything that belongs to you {three exclamation marks} ih am sorry but u ruh gonnig to burn in hell for mocking all-with-two-ells MiG they God {no punctuation}"

P.S.: I came out as bi in 2020, when I was 59. I've been this way, as well as presenting some symptoms of ASD, all of my life.
The majority of reaction that I've received, from my employer and coworkers, to immediate family members and longtime friends, has been a wonderful mix of "Happy Pride, so glad to see you having the courage to be yourself," and "yes, I pretty much figured that out years ago, So glad you are able to be yourself and not be afraid anymore."
I've been extraordinarily blessed with a wonderful support network of friends, immediate family, coworkers, my employer (which has an open policy of strong support for its LGBT employees to be honest about their sexuality and gender without fear in the workplace), and many others, mostly old acquaintances, who pretty much figured out that I was "different" years ago and have no problem with it.
Surprisingly, one of my best friends who has remained a close and tolerant friend who expressed his congratulations at being honest with myself is a man who is a lifelong fundamentalist christian evangelist. He began his response by saying that Jesus, in the bible, didn't just break bread with observant devoutly religious people, but he went among, broke bread with, and told jokes with and gave comfort to "people who were, at that time in Judea, considered outcasts, and in marginalized communities, who were looked down upon and not acknowledged by almost everyone, and yet he recognized them, stayed in their houses, and refused to treat them as invisible."
In my life, I have found very few people who are declared christians, whatever their sectarian background, who have more eloquently expressed the compassion and humanity to be found in the teachings attributed to Jesus than this man has, nor had the fortitude and goodness in their innate conscience to put it into practice.

@@Dieter-Doeddel Do some reading on hegemonic culture.
P.S.: And before you ask, I'm an atheist (agnostic to be precise) myself.

I'm genuinely surprised the male/female audience demographic is so skewed. Honestly can't think of why that would be.
Yes. I am a dude. Personally, I watch Emma because she's intelligent and witty and honest. And she goes hard after fundamentalists. _And_ she's pals with SciMan Dan and that's a helluva endorsement.

What?
When I was 38 I was asked for ID to buy alcohol at Sainsburys. I didn't have photo ID on me, so had to get my 65 year old mum to buy it for me.
I just have very few winkles at all and things like my hands haven't aged quickly either.
Just saying, if it keeps up you may have some fun to look forward to as you get older, Emma. 😆
Jasper looks like a good addition to the channel. Looking forward to the next two prides in my area.
I started watching your videos not long ago and continue to be impressed by how ell spoken you are, and how well your arguments are thought out. I wish more people had the capability to think critically as well as you do. Keep it up.
OF. THIS. I've never been comfortable with being called a "Male Feminist." The idea that men and women are human beings, both deserving of equal treatment should never be conditional. My identifying as a male has nothing to do with that idea, or the strength of it. I don't pick and choose which human beings for which I have empathy. It's not up to me and it's definitely not up to someone else.

Yeah, so when I was about 9-10, the people in charge of my Sunday school thought it would be appropriate to listen in on a conversation I was having with my friend about things we had been dreaming about to interject their opinion about a story I had told.
I'm so glad you have a way to inoculate yourself from the "haters". Having a laugh at the mean-spirited, uninformed or ignorant comments seems like a good way to keep them from spoiling your good humor. Also, I loved seeing Jasper.

Yes
My favorite part of watching videos like this - even hate comments count as interaction... and we all know what interaction does ;D
Shhh, I wont tell, I promise.
