What does the banana line mean and why does it matter whether you are above or below it? What does A L stand for? Is it easy to find contractors there to work on homes? Not sure I agree that either of those are dream homes - seems like it might be a significant challenge to someone just arriving on the island to pull off a huge renovation...

(without snow) In Portugal, where many buildings lack air conditioning, higher humidity levels foster mold growth.
As for the concept of a dream home, it's a subjective matter, varying from person to person. If you're fortunate enough to have millions, the possibilities are limitless.

It reminds us of our first house together on flint Rd in Columbus Ohio. We just love it. The work is way too much for an almost 70 year old man. But a young one...
@@ItllBeFun Even for a 40ish year old, that much property would be daunting, but for the price - you said it was less than 100k? It's very intriguing.
It's 120k. That is how big.our property in Ohio was. It's a lot of work but really fun.

The line in the high which the bananas can't grow above. Meaning different plant material.
I love the 2nd property, but I would build a complete new house on it, instead of wasting money on those ruins :D
We completely agree. However Wolf was trying to figure out how a young person could maybe DIY. But we think that one just didn't to be started all over in order to get it right.

Depends on the region I suppose.
They can be found. However you really would need to purchase something built in the last 10 or 15 years to get around the issues.

Yes. The internet is as good or better than what we received in the USA.
I love all your videos. Except this one. The time and effort to make this meet living standards, not to mention money, does not appeal to me. I am in the final third of my life and I no longer want to tackle a renovation. Good for some, but have to take a pass on this one.

Hey guys! That was neat. But what's up with being above the banana line? Is that like having your home surrounded by a corn field? ie you can't breathe because the air is stifled due to the corn sucking the air dry causing humidty making us unable to cool down, type of thing? I bet it must be something like that. Relatives in CA had their home in amongst their corn fields, way to close I thought, on 3 sides! Anyway, I think you should do something new and I'd like to make a suggestion I saw in another video for another country. So you wouldn't exactly be copying since it is a different language, as well. How about for those of us not in the know,...and since Wolf probably has the upper hand on this maybe include, "video WORD of the day" ie throw in a new Portuguese word for us to learn! HA! We now have Bom Dia, down. Although you say the other part so fast I still cannot get, though it is the "phrase or saying". Maybe break those down for us into slower syllables. Just a thought. Perhaps fun too!! Love your vids. Always insightful. Can't wait to see more on your new home. It is so hard for me to look at a dilapidated place and think oh gee this could be something. Yet you did just that! Bravo on you! Gosh that's so cool. So much I need to learn perhaps...

As for living in the bananas, it usually is not a problem because the island is a mountain so they don't really block your view or make you feel closed in. Not like a flat corn field.
Lastly as for trying to see through redo of the house... houses are so expensive here that if you only have a few hundred thousand to spend you will need to think outside the box.
We wanted a house but we are too old to do all the work ourselves and therefore purchased a apartment that needed some work that we could afford.
