      Wow... that's more than half a kW/h used up in however much time that thing stays on the air... which I'm guessing is not much, probably something like 15 minutes. So that thing is effectively a 166kW/h power supply. Impressive!

      One guy, one drone, one GoPro Hero3. Now I want you to get every shot you see in the video with a crane and dolly, use one guy for everything, and get them in the same amount of time. Nice to have missed the point of the video though.

    • @critical
      @critical 9 лет назад +3

      ThisAllSoundsGood ehm, that´s kind of a.... completely other video?

    • @ThisAllSoundsGood
      @ThisAllSoundsGood 9 лет назад +7

      Critical Yes it is a completely different video, but I'll explain again. The Brain Farm guys worked to build a drone to carry an expensive and heavy 4k camera. Everyone keeps making remarks about how they could've filmed what the Brain Farm guys did with a boom/crane. However, stating the obvious misses the point. Brain Farm wasn't trying to film an amazing video of a car driving through mud, which of course you could do with a boom/crane. They were testing their drone, which took 5 years of effort, to see if it could fly the camera. A very expensive and heavy camera.
      So for every boom/crane nuthugger who said they could do what Brain Farm did, I put up this alternate video and challenged them to achieve the same shots with their boom/crane using 1 guy and do it in the same amount of time.

    • @critical
      @critical 9 лет назад +4

      ThisAllSoundsGood I can see this setup being used for a long one-take shot with speedramping, sure. Perhaps a few other things as well. But slowmotion isn't really used for big, wide shots.. you want to be close to get the effect.. and if you're close, like in this shot, you can use ways that are safer and cheaper. Faster as well, if you count the 5 years this took :D
      Let me put it this way, do you see any use for the video you linked to be in 1000 fps? I honestly don't. I might use my Epic to get a little slowmotioneffect and the resolution, but that super high fps would only be cool in a close shot.

    • @ThisAllSoundsGood
      @ThisAllSoundsGood 9 лет назад

      Critical You might want to reconsider your opinions that 4k is only useful in closeups, slow motion isn't really for wide shots, and slowmotion is really only what 4k is good for.Surfing Maverick's filmed with a drone at 4k - @4Antarctica/drone/4k - epic Inception score included - ruclips.net/video/yA16wGvwFk4K/видео.htmleep in mind that the Brain Farm guys are an exception to the rule in terms of cost and time. You can buy a 4k drone right now at B&H in the form of the DJI Inspire for $2900. There are plenty of applications for 4k wide with drones with slowmotion or normal playback as well. Hotels, cities, national parks, ski resorts, action photographers, filmmakers of all sorts...you name it and they've already started using 4k drones to bring attention to the natural or manmade beauty of what they have to offer. Drones give you greater flexibility than cranes/booms, are more cost effective, and efficient. 4k video adds another dimension to the quality of the footage, like watching an Imax film of the great outdoors. Takes only 1 guy to get all those 4k/drone shots too, maybe a couple more for a dedicated controller for flight, camera, and catcher. What type of manpower would it take to replicate the same images in these videos using cranes/booms? How much manpower to do it and at what risks? How much for the materials? Remember, the DJI Inspire is less than $3k and can be operated by 1 person. There's no way you're getting the variety of shots in such an efficient manner with less people by cranes/booms or any other traditional method. Really take a good look at each of these videos and get back to me. Rationale and calm discussion always appreciated.
