- In this video, I talk about how I prepared for and passed my PhD upgrade (based in the Humanities Department at a UK university). An upgrade is a standard part of the first year of PhD study in the UK where you submit a portfolio of work and attend a mini 'viva' to assess whether you're ready to be officially upgraded from an MPhil student to a fully-fledged PhD student.

I've got my upgrade this afternoon and was searching online for some tips when I came across your video, thanks so much, it's so helpful! I'm also p/t and also, bizarrely, at Exeter! Best tip was about getting myself to say what my research is about - I am going to be doing just that in the next couple of hours before the actual viva! :)
Hi Sally, so pleased to hear that it was useful! How funny to hear you're also part time at Exeter! I'm based at the Cornwall Campus. Hope the upgrade went well! :)
it did thank you!@@youbetterwerk :) thank you again for your video, I am sure it helped :)
I had my upgrade viva (MbyRes to PhD) last month with Exeter too and passed with minor amendments, wish I’d have seen this video before it, was so good!
Oh thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment! Congratulations on passing your upgrade! Onto the next phase of the PhD...
Congratulations on passing
Thank you Mardell! 😊
