The bottom of the gps unit needs taped as well. the bottom pops off very easy. We now put ours in a balloon and have a string with a loop tied in it put the end of the balloon through the loop and tie it in a knot. the other end of the string we put a fishing hook clip and clip it on a control rod or anything to keep it from flying away in a crash. then we wrap one piece of tape around the balloon/gps and stick our velcro to that and stick it to the radio box. We had same issue as you it not connecting to phone and had to get a new one sent . Also dont ever coat the board to waterproof it or it will not work again as well. Hope that helps.
If you ever want to try and get this tracking a bit better? a pair or rear sponsons hanging out the back level with the CL of the prop shaft help about 10% and dont knock the speed off . I did add them to one of my 80's moulds before getting into riggers.
She's freakin flyin big b I'll post a vid soon had a 91 mph flip still I'm sure when it came down and impacted the water if it a either hit a turtle or hit a log but my blackjack 24 V2 on 6s had a very very bad day on the water

No wonder you didn’t want to use two of them in the 24” hydro, that would have been over over kill 🤣 But don’t we just love stuffing big things in small places. I wanted to throw those 2968's in the twin hydro so bad so so bad but I was afraid to. I'm currently waiting on a new hatch for the Deltaforce 29 twin soon as it comes in I will be throwing those 2968's in the Deltaforce 29.

Kinda wanted to ask a question about my rc boat. Im currently planning to use my racestar 2835 4000kv, 3s set up with a 36mm 1.9 pitch prop for a 70-60cm catamaran but im not sure if its a good setup for speed and stability.
70cm = 27" inch hull, what type hull is it? Rigger, catamaran, mono? 2835 is kinda small for a boat that size and weight, you may run into temp issues 3560 size motor may be a better choice!

A 2858 is HUGE for that little hull.... I suppose that's why you are getting close to 60 with that thing.

I have small ziplock bags for my gps.I double bag it.
I usually use a little ziploc, but i left it at the shop. Used tape as a back up
