A relation in math shows how elements from one set (group of things) are connected to elements in another set. Imagine you have a list of people and a list of their favorite colors. A relation could show which person likes which color.
Functions
A function is a special type of relation where each item in the first set is linked to exactly one item in the second set. For example, if you have a list of people and their birthdates, each person has one unique birthdate.
Think of a relation as a general link between items and a function as a specific rule that assigns each item exactly one partner.
