    One of Rod’s great strengths is his ability to coherently annunciate what’s going on in some facets of the non-stop decline into the abyss of degeneracy that we are experiencing in western civilization. His solutions are always limp-wristed and pathologically cerebral but his diagnostics are usually pretty good.

    Beautiful. Thank you. I find that one of the signs of those who are experiencing God in their lives through the Orthodox Church is the clarity and authenticity with which they speak, without relying solely on what has been written (although there is nothing wrong with that). That is demonstrated very clearly in all of the ones who have done these interviews. Mr. Dreher's posits completely make sense.

      I'm a former protestant who's leaning toward becoming Orthodox and I might be converted by both. I think that the spiritual reality is very important, if lives are not sanctified and changed, then it makes your faith look weak. But also, can you back it up with facts, logic, and history? I'm leaning toward becoming Orthodox because it SEEMS to meet all these qualifications.

      @@Ioannikios174 Curious. I'm leaning towards catholicism for similar reasons. They seem to be far more willing to deal with philosophy and logic, far more bent on evangelising and do not suffer from the petty disputes between churches that can sometimes arise in the Orthodox world. Because at some point atheists and other critics will come and ask us about our faith, and we'll have to back it up with arguments. Saying "because Jesus said so" will not be an option then. At least that's my 2 cent.

      There is a certain difference in the Orthodox view of Theology! Both Roman Catholicism and Protestantism have a theology based on the beliefs of one individual who is either the Pope or the protestant believer!
      In the Orthodox Church, we entirely trust in the living experience of the Whole Church!
      Infallibility is a gift that was bestowed on the oneness of the whole Church, because Church is the wholeness of a mystical body whose Head is the only infallible Son of man Who is the incarnated Son of God! For this very reason Orthodoxy is expressed and declared in Ecumenical Councils!

      @@user-et8vm9cc3t Catholicism is actually very divided and many say that this pope isn't even a real pope. Also, none of that has to do with them being the true Church or not. What about this bickering between churches and the mixing of the own national interests in the entire issue? What about Moscow triyng to get more influence on to the Slavic countries ? They've always wanted to get a grasp of them, always wanted to exert their influence, first with Panslavism, then with Communism, and now with Orthodoxy. What about the lack of ecumenical counsils after 1054 ?

There are contradictions here, he is half run and ride half stay and fight. His reporting of the Catholic sex abuse and homosexual corruption in the Roman church has been remarkable as is his work exposing Moral Therapeutic Deism.
    However there is something of the Milquetoast about him, very keen to maintain his middle class credentials and position in polite society. Maybe I am being too hard on the guy. He has a wife and kids to feed and bills to pay. I will continue to follow his work.

    Pray excuse my intervening sir, however there are no 'pastors' in Orthodoxy. Both the Eastern Orthodox and the Roman Catholic Church claim Αποστολική Διαδοχή ("apostolic succession") that is the direct spiritual and priestly succession [by means of consecutive ordaining ("χειροτονία") through the centuries] line that stems from the Disciples themselves (for instance, in the Vatican one can see a giant slab of marble listing the Popes and the first one is Peter the Apostle). The titles "preacher", "pastor", "minister" a.o. pertain to functionaries in the various Protestant Churches. Now, the Protest has been excommunicated real fast by the Vatican (and Orthodoxy has followed suit, that is why you have been baptized as if you were a convert from outside of Christianity; should you had originally been a Roman Catholic turning to Orthodoxy there would have been no need for this...) therefore the protestant have never even attempted to brand their clergymen "priests", as they know they have turned their back to the established Dogmas and have formed their system on a different basis. An Orthodox priest is required to give sermons during mass and many of them also preach to audiences extra ambo -Sunday schools, functions, seminars etc etc. There also are lay preachers, holders of divinity degrees or otherwise theologically learned men (in their vast majority). But no pastors in any of the Orthodox Churches.

    • @wisewomanhealing
      @wisewomanhealing 4 года назад +2

      I'm sure he knows this. It may have just been a slip of the tongue. Or perhaps he was trying to include Protestants in what he was saying about allowing church leaders to speak truth of the scriptures into our lives?

    • @TheoKojak
      @TheoKojak 4 года назад

      @@wisewomanhealing To be honest, I take it this has been a slip of the tongue; the context from abt 6:00 onwards does not demonstrate any intention for inclusion of others as the phrase: "...the whole truth etc... from our pastors, our priests and our bishops as Orthodox Christians..." leaves little to speculate or contemplate about.
      A fervent neophyte/convert as much as a keenly practicing person born into Orthodoxy is bound to be very much drawn to this scheme of age-old theological thought and clean, non negotiable lines (that have spread deep roots into the traditional culture, customs and practices and even in statute legislation -I dare say- of many European nations) despite modernity, Enlightenment, human rights and the emerging personal, social and political values thereof.
      Our "pastors" (say preachers), priests and bishops who are into mainstream Orthodox thought and dogma here in Greece that I can speak of, keep on repeating in all tones of voice in their strive to impress it upon their flock that Rome equals "schism", the Protest equals heresy and all 'fringe Protestant' denominations ( I won't be calling names...) are invariably from twofold heresy down to cults or very little short of (at best).
      Do they attend inter Christian and interfaith congresses, world summits etc? Yes they do, for appearances' sake (in the most literal sense of the term), and too many of them don't shy away from declaring this publicly (here in Greece, I must repeat...), never mincing their words, in fact:
      "There isn't anything to debate or compare and contrast really, for we are holding the truth" [and there ain't two ways about it, I'd wish to add...].
      Now, some people do honestly cherish clarity and rigid lines and that's perfectly alright with me (God forbid!)....

      @@drewmann856 The Gospel is not an apologetic, it is "a message" from God telling us about His salvation in what Christ has done for us. It is critical information, without which we stand condemned before God. The beauty and glory is in our savior, Jesus Christ, not in buildings and relics made by men. When we understand what Christ went through, taking on the punishment for all our sins, he becomes more beautiful to us than anything else. This is about spirit, not the material world. God will judge our souls, the spiritual side of us, and especially to see if the Spirit of Christ was in us, which makes us one of his. Walk by faith in the Word of God, and not by faith in what you see. Satan is a deceiver, look at how he deceived Eve in the garden, with something that looked good, but caused her to forget the word that God gave to her, and then she deceived Adam. Satan uses the same tactics over and over, and people have fallen for them since the garden of Eden, but the bible opens our eyes to his schemes. READ YOUR BIBLE---use your God given eyes for that, so you will not get fooled by the devil and end up with him and his angels, in the lake of fire---forever!

    God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
    Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
    And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation.
    That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
    For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
    Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

      God also said to worship the Lord in beauty and holiness. God became incarnate, able to be seen in flesh and blood. The world was redeemed through a material person and its good and proper to worship him with the aid of beautiful things whether they be songs, an icon, a statue or a stained glass window. These things remind us of the Church as the visible presence of God's kingdom on earth.

    James Worswick was born in Lancashire in 1771 and became a Catholic priest and the refounder of the Catholic Church in Newcastle upon Tyne. I used to go to Mass in Worswick Street when I was a student.
    According to the Oros of 1755, James Worswick was not validly baptised, confirmed nor ordained, and this is what Rod Dreher believes, which is quite a U-turn since he was a Catholic himself. I think people need to be warned that "Orthodoxy" is just an ultra-sectarian lunatic fringe religion. Patriarch Cyril V was initially opposed by a majority of the Synod (they're not all crazy), so he had them exiled and then the Oros could be railroaded through. It was watered down in 1888 since not all the Orthodox are so keen on the general fanaticism of the Oros. Nevertheless the ruling on Father Worswick still stands. I find it offensive and disgusting because the Orthodox Church never made any attempt to send a mission to the Newcastle area, not even by the time I was baptised in Hebburn in 1955.

  • @gordoncrawley5826
    @gordoncrawley5826 3 года назад

    The Gospel (the good news of the forgiveness of all our sins through what Jesus Christ did for us) is the core of Christianity. Instead of being in awe of buildings that men have built, we should be in awe of the greatest thing that God has done for us in Christ. What else can take away all the sins we have committed, and released us from the eternal condemnation we deserve, promising instead a resurrection to eternal life in the Kingdom of God? Romans 1:20 tells us that what God has made, all of creation, plainly shows that He exists, and He made it known before all the church buildings were constructed. Instead of looking at buildings, look into the Word of God, given to us by the Holy Spirit as it guided the prophets and apostles etc., to write it down for us. The bible is a special revelation of God, which we would have not known, unless it was given to us and is a gift to us sinful and easily deceived humans. Jeremiah 17:9--Look it up! Christianity is only "churchianity" if the Gospel of Christ is not the rock foundation it is built on and churchianity will not save anyone--Jesus Christ alone is able and willing to save us if we come to him by faith and by his word. Warm and fuzzy feelings, nor our so called "morality" make us right before God. Romans 3:23 We are saved by Christ thru faith and then added to "his church", the people of God universal and eternal. Talk about false ideas about Christianity, it is right here, in these emotionally driven ideas. Get your true Christianity out of the bible, not from the personal experience of nice people who mean well, but are off course on the most important issue of your life! Do not just listen to me, but please read your bible for yourself, for your eternal soul depends on it. Pray to God that He will open your eyes to "His Truth" as you read the bible, and start in the New Testament (Covenant) portion of it, for these are the words that lead to salvation and eternal life.
