Clearly the writers (unlike the original one’s) had no idea about the character of Dot Cotton, Dot Cotton would never have given up on Nick Cotton and let him to pass away and without calling an ambulance, don’t matter how bad Nick Cotton was Dot Cotton always believed he was not beyond redemption. They clearly (the writers) didn’t understand how a lifelong elderly Christian behaves, an insult to the character, done purely for sensationalism, nothing else, and no chance of Johnnie Altman making any comebacks as Nick Cotton.
It's called character development. She finally had enough and let him die realising he was never going to change. I mean he had just bragged off to her about the people he murdered and showed absolutely no remorse for it.
