This is as "pro" as the iPad gets. A pro stand, a pro dock and a pro charging solution combined into 1 efficient, powerful, useful and convenient product. It's expensive, but so is buying each of these types of accessories separately. I'll let you know if it's worth buying or whether you should save your money.

Dumb question - will it work if I have a protective case on my iPad Pro 12.9?
Super video, Chris. This looks like a product that gives you everything you would ever need to work. The accessory is a little more expensive than I would prefer, okay, a lot, but I do think that with this you get a lot back. All the effort and time you put into your channel shows noticeably and certainly pays off. Take care :)
Is there any Ipad protective case compatible with this dock? one of the main downsides of these devices is the inabillity to protect your ipad with a case and thus sort of forces you to keep it stationary. I would love to watch a video that delivers a solution to this

I agree this is amazing, and I am tempted despite it's price. The one really, really big letdown to me is that you can't simply connect the iPad to the stand magnetically and with the smart connector. I know it's probably not 'difficult,' but it isn't as easy as connecting and removing from the magic keyboard. I know having it plug into the usb c port gives you the ability to have that extra IO, and that is a selling point, but I would prefer a magnetic, smart connector attachment for pass through charging, AND then the ability to connect it also into the usb c port if you wanted to to get the extra ports. For this price, that is not an unreasonable request. If you can get that little apple watch charging adapter, then my request is possible. I know Apple needs to approve the use of the smart connector, like it has with some Belkin products, and that is probably expensive and very difficult, but if I'm paying over $300 for this thing, it NEEDS that functionality.

This dock needs thunderbolt! 😎 I could live without the wireless charging, but it‘s nice to have.
PS: I just learned from 9to5mac that a new dock is on the way since this one isn‘t compatible with the 2021 iPad Pro. Hopefully they‘ll integrate thunderbolt.

Audio is saturated
Hey Chris! (Or is it Chrs, like it looked on the video.) I love the Studio Dock and I think I would buy it, although I do wish it was priced about $100 less. Then, I think it could be a must have accessory. I agree the Apple Magic Keyboard is a nice product, but you do have to look down at the screen
Hey, what’s up with your audio on this video. It was terrible. Not what you normally put out. It sounded like you were speaking extra loudly to get a appropriate db level from your mic across the room. Perhaps it was a built-in mic on your camera. That’s what it sounded like to me. Otherwise, good vid on very good points you made here on the Kensington Studio Dock. TFS.
What I prefer is to keep my both hands on the desk (or on the surface of iPad) to prevent being tired.
I would assume that any case attached to the iPad should be taken off before using with this dock?

I liked it, in fact I liked it a lot. But I bought the magic keyboard and it would be really expensive to drop it.
I don’t like the fact that the stand is really large... but it looks great to use with the ports and charging base

I have worked so hard and spent so much money eliminating white and silver from my desk, cant believe they choose that colour! Also confused how this is the first multi functional stand, I have been wanting something like this for about three years seriously how is there not a mechanical keyboard with a usb c hub and power bank built in? plenty of room? probably fit an ssd as well! If I could use this with the Logitech case that came out this would be a lot cooler. Imagine having that detachable keyboard and case and then when you want to do more work oriented task you detach the keyboard and plug it in this dock. That would be sweet. Make the price under 200 and offer it with thunderbolt ports and the bottom port under the power be a display and power passthrough and I’m sold. With the new iPad os coming out where you can drag what’s on your iPad to the iMac and stuff that would really bring the whole ecosystem a little more flow. I like the concept of this a whole lot though I just wish for a little more function out of it.

Hi, I'll have to look into this a bit more, but I don't think it fits with any case. The iPad is attached to the dock as a result of magnetism. In the videos reviewing this product that I have seen, the iPad used with it was always bare and without any case. I hope this answers your question.
I have had my eye on this for a long time...glad is only $399 in oz its over $500 and the magic keyboard is $499
Imagine if the iPad had something like Dex mode and everytime you attach the iPad to this dock it will automatically switch into that mode. It would be just like a Nintendo Switch. The potential here is huge

How large is the base of the stand? Does that square-ish area fit within the profile of a Mac mini?

Thunderbolt is compatible with USB C, so as long as the body isn’t too different it should be fine.
Very true, the 12.9 inch is supposed to be a bit thicker to accommodate the Mini-LED but hopefully that doesn’t matter. Of course if I’m spending that kind of money on a premium accessory it would nice if it took advantage of the added speed thunderbolt has.
it won't fit the new 2021 12.9" iPad Pro. The newer iPad is too thick by .02 inches to connect to the stands charger connector

Now with Universal control, you just have to have your iPad near your Mac and it will use the same keyboard and mouse across both devices. No pairing needed.

and now with the M1 iPad pro and the WDC boom that it will run desktop apps, its a no brainer.
This is already obsolete because it has USB-C instead of Thunderbolt port. Upgrade to Thunderbolt port and new iPad Pro actually move to MacOS, then this becomes a must have.
USB-C and Thunderbolt are compatible and physically the same, they only differ in capabilities, or better yet speed.
RIP Headphone users. Audio is peaking like a MOFO on this one.
And today Apple just made this product obsolete for the newer iPads. I’m kind of glad I didn’t get this because I really wanted it. I hope they make a Thunderbolt version

The 11” yes, but probably not the 12.9” as the 2021 will be thicker than the 2020 version.
