I've been an Apple and iPad user for years. Continuously had iPads for probably best part of 10 years. I now have an 11" M1 Pro. While it generally works ok, it is so glitchy. I've seen numerous issues with rotation where the Dock stays in the same place when the rest of the screen rotates.
It's annoying that to get a good writing experience, we have to add a third party screen protector. That's very un-Apple like.
While generally Apple apps are consistent and stable, the lack of options is infuriating. Why is it not simple to change the teclxt colour in Apple Notes?
Honestly, the pace of innovation at Samsung now is outstripping Apple and I've already switched from iPhone to S22 Utra, MacBook Pro to a Windows laptop and can see the tablet going next.

It's not bad to be an Apple fan as long as you're being honest. A lot of other youtubers just claim that the iPad is better for everything, while you pointed out the advantages of the Tab S8 Ultra and you didn't even try to convince us to get the iPad, you just told us to get whatever fits our needs better. the fact that you, being an apple fan, recognize what samsung has done well with this device, speaks very well, it is true that in terms of applications and software the ipad has no competitor, but it is good to see that other brands are taking up the tablet world

    • @sampell8443
      @sampell8443 2 года назад +4

Apple need the competition. I think the competition between Samsung and Apple is good for both companies and I also think they are aware of that. I prefer Apple but I really like Samsung and the competition they offer.

    • @localblackman427

In *creative* applications, I agree apple doesn't have competition. But in software, I disagree. Outside of universal control for mac/ipad and samsungs dex and other multitasking...there's not much different.
      - Extend Displays to tablet? Yes
      - Sync calls/texts/notes/photos across laptop/tab/phone? Yes
      - external drive support? Yes
      - cross device headphone support? Yes
However for things like external monitor support, more pencil support, more dock support.. it's things that I wish ipados would adopt. I also wish apple had more developers that targeted software developers more bc there are just an infinite number of things I can do with android for software development that I can't do ipad unfortunately

@@localblackman427 Actually, as an artist, I vastly prefer the Samsung. And this is from a 30-year Apple exclusive user. I was going to upgrade my iPad Pro, but I lusted after the extra screen space for Clip Studio Paint’s many palettes… and I was pretty much shocked how much more I liked the Samsung. Here are my reasons (and some caveats)
      1. OS. I love MacOS, but for me, iOS is hot garbage. A Tonka-toy OS. Android is so much more productive, flexible, and extensible (as the video shows). I’m consistently shocked at how much easier it is do things in Android. Plus, you can make it look any way you want, the OS is completely customizable. Only thing I miss is Airdrop, which is great if you have a Mac.
      2. Screen. No contest for watching movies and creating art. Colossal OLED screen. ‘Nuff said.
      3. Pen. While they are both great, the Samsung has Wacom EMR, which means hover capability. In apps, just hover the pen above the screen, and you get mouse-like behavior, with help pop-ups, and BRUSH SIZE preview for artists. Massive upgrade for me. (Kind of for anyone, really)
      4. Modular. Need more space? Plug in a 1 TB micro-SD card, done. Only way to upgrade an iPad Pro is to buy a new iPad Pro.
In fact, the only way I like the iPad Pro more is raw speed. I use Nomad Sculpt for 3D character design, and for the massive demands of a 3D program, the Apple chips are the undisputed king. It just flies. Unfortunately, Apple has gimped the iPad on the pro software front, to not cannibalize their computer sales, so all that power is mostly wasted.
Bottom line, I love the Ultra so much, my next phone might be a Samsung. Heresy, I know, but facts are facts.

    • @SourStrawberrys
      @SourStrawberrys 2 года назад +3

Apple has no competitor when it comes to software/apps because they are THE most restricted operating system compared to any competitor. It is less customizable as well. It is very easy to have the most stable software when you limited/restrict what the user can do with it. The iPad has so much power but you will never see the full potential of it due to those restrictions.

The key is picking a device that fits your needs. Being a heavy android/windows user who owns a MacBook Pro I wish I never bought, an iPad which was a present and a second phone which is an iPhone, Android phones (Pixel) and tablets (Samsung) feel more natural to me for what I need such devices for (medical field/ EMR system/ Telemedicine). They offer more flexibility and can do a lot more than apple devices can (An example is copying text from paper records directly from the camera and pasting it into my notes). I am a pragmatic tech consumer and I refuse to be limited within one ecosystem the way apple does it. Android and google apps can be used on apple devices (RUclips, Google Maps, Waze, Duo, Gmail, Chrome etc...), but apple limits the use of several apps to their customers only. The only use I found for my iPad is using it as a monitor for my smart home devices, and my MacBook is used as a couch computer for light stuff, the reason being that my job heavily relies on function keys and the pseudo touchscreen on the MacBook with virtual F keys is not working for me, it slows me down; same applies for the iPad keyboard. I just ordered a Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra a few hours ago. Demand has been so high that certain models are still listed as sold out today.

    @Bitshift1125 2 года назад +14

You know man, I really strongly disagree with your conclusion, but it's hard to fault your logic and I really respect you for the honesty. I think you laid out a ton of really good reasons that the S8 is superior and I think you give it too little credit for some of it's major advantages (the biggest being the camera placement, of course). I'm a bit disappointed that you still think the iPad is better, but you're right about the main reasons. App support for Samsung's legitimately better features is just lacking, and no matter how good the features are, it really does boil down to support. I think if you look at this as a device comparison the S8 wins hands down, but Samsung really suffers because the software side is just not catching up despite all of these features being in the previous generation device (which I own).
I think from a hardware perspective, the iPad kind of sucks. It's an illusion of quality, but they don't take key things into account and then stubbornly refuse to change for years and years. That really makes me hate the iPad. The camera positioning is again the most obvious example, so let's go with that. Apple didn't bother to think about where the camera should go on a device that is used primarily in landscape mode; they just did what they did on the phone. Now they just won't fix it, and it's the most obvious flaw. Now they are really lagging behind on camera quality as well. Then they make the pen a $130 extra? I just really don't like it. Having the charger on the case is a nice touch though, although it would be great if that was USB C so you could also use it to attach a mouse.
Samsung still has it's faults, of course, but I think they are way less offensive in my opinion. The adaptive refresh rate would be a fantastic feature, particularly with the pixel response times on this display being so much better than the iPad. The iPad suffers from some obvious smearing at high refresh rates, but Samsung just can't claim the victory here when their display is stuck using so much more power if you want to use the refresh rate that allows for better motion. It's a huge shame that they took so long for a refresh of this device and didn't do the most obvious upgrade. The other one you hit on is the trackpad self-clicking. That really boils down to them being cheap and not making the case just slightly more rigid, and that is really annoying. I have the same case and the same problem on my S7, and the fact that they didn't fix it really irritates me. But at least you don't lose the pen, which is honestly just so much better than the Apple version that it honestly shouldn't be free cheap option. The pen just has so many more features, and they all work so well that it really changed how I use my tablet, where the Apple pencil is just an above average stylus for double the cost. Also, the speakers on the S7 and S8 are just incredible. I know people same the same about iPad speakers, but you seriously need to put them side by side just once. Apple is so far behind.
The software side is just a clear win for Apple, although I don't really think it's Apple that did it. I hate they explicitly copied the Samsung multitasking (after I think two complete overhauls to mulitasking over the years?), and they couldn't even make it as feature rich. You'd think Apple would do it better, but they just choose not to as always. The Apple software just always seems lacking to me, personally. Their community does such a great job though, in part because Apple is so insanely controlling, but also because Apple still dominates the tablet world. My major complaint here would be Facetime specifically. My brother has an iPad and an iPhone and every time my parents want to do a Facetime call, the iPhone gets the call and the iPad just sits there unused because nobody can figure out how to make the iPad even recognize that a call is coming in. Apple keeps the app so bare-bones that basic problems arise often, and it would take almost nothing for them to fix it. Then if we are lucky enough for it so get the call one time in ten, the camera is an issue we have to actively work around because Apple just won't take ten minutes to realize that it's bad placement.
I really feel like Samsung tablets could turn that in the favor of Android if given enough time, but that's just not enough when you're looking at buying a device right now. You don't buy it for a future "if", you buy it because it's better now. The only thing Samsung has in the software department that really turns that around is Dex, which is the most under-rated feature ever, but I feel like they really haven't done anything to it in a while. It is so incredibly close to being so big, but they just don't seem to update it anymore. At least in my experience, maybe they just reserve updates for newer devices I guess? That would really annoy me. If Samsung had the same top-down pressure on developers that Apple has, Dex and Android would have the developer support to match the hardware and it would be a clear win. I have no doubt. Unfortunately, I think developers just don't have the inclination to work on Samsung features for a tablet when Android tablets barely exist in the market at this point and Samsung is only a subset of that market. It's a huge shame, because the S7 and S8 both have so much unrealized potential with their hardware being so good and the software support being mediocre. I think that also negatively impacts Apple users because Apple just refuses to match the tiny, simple changes that would make the iPad so much greater, like moving the camera to the correct spot and switching over to USB C, or even just making the pencil half the price, making it hook onto the device more securely for transport, and giving it gesture support. They could even just treat the button like a tiny little trackpad for all I care, just give it something.

Man, I have to hand it to you. Great video. Every time I see a comparison video between Apple and Samsung, it takes about 60 seconds before I tune out. Most of the time, I'm spotting an Apple enthusiast trying to pawn off how bad Samsung is; and it's mostly nonsense. Sometimes, it's the opposite but mostly Apple enthusiasts (this has been my experience). I have an IPad Pro and the tab 8 ultra. Love them both. The Dex feature of the Samsung does surprisingly more than you described, but otherwise, your comparison was spot on.

Great review. Having had both, and ultimately settled on Samsung s8 Ultra, your comparisons are spot on. Even the track pad clicking from underneath. Fortuately it doesn't activate when doing so. I already had the lastest iPad Mini with the pencil. The pro, all be it larger, was still not large enough. When the Ultra came out, had to try it. I do not draw, I do diagrams of homes etc. I also do not play games on any device. The mini is great for when I want soething small for on my lap or for quick eails etc. The Ultra has been great for multitasking. Way better than iPad Pro. Since the main app I used on the iPad, would not work in multi task, where on the ultra, all apps are capable of multitask. The sound and screen experiance were very similar, maybe a little more bass from the Pro. One gripe that I have with the Ultra is the kickstand style keyboard. I have to be practically laying down to have the set up work on my lap. Enjoy your work.

Here is the use case you don't understand. I had to reconcile several bills with clients on my screen. I had opened open 3 bank accounts seperately and a floating calculator app. I additionally had Google Keep In a floating bubble to take notes. I then had a floating phone app that would turn into a bubble when I didn't need to look at it. I needed to keep 4 account numbers and routing numbers available on the screen. With the Samsung you can cut the account numbers off a Web page and pin them to the screen. Aside from giving me a much bigger screen the utility is off the charts.

Went with the iPad Pro for many personal reasons; I am a musician and the Apple ecosystem is very friendly for us (sharing sheet music via air drop, ease of use with Logic Pro, etc). They laugh around beating up the product, making fun of everything, not taking anything seriously. And their MacAddress's channel, which is a channel just about Apple, mock other competitors for not being Apple and they're just this very Apple stereotypical type that are totally unfair when it comes to comparisons.
LTT is a good example of how when one grows up, they start to care less and less and forget what have set them apart from other RUclipsrs that allowed them to grow this much.

In all honesty, Samsung has had it going on for a while but they started amping it up with the s5e for the thinness and large, super vibrant display. Then they took it to the next level by getting flagship specs back in there with the s6. And the s7+ is fantastic, so much so to the point that it's almost indistinguishable from the current top offerings from Apple and Samsung 1.5 years later (essentially the same as the s8+ but minus the internals refresh and a few tweaks).

Something that was never really addressed on the video. Out the box, Samsung SPen feels more true to writing with an actual Pen than the Apple Pencil. The "screen protector" and the Pencil were additional purchases where as on the Samsung side, you get that experience out of the box. Another part that almost EVERY reviewer skips is the fact that with Samsung's keyboard case, you can detach it from the keyboard and STILL have the articulating hinge of the cover to prop up the tablet to draw and/or write on as opposed to the magic keyboard which is either all or nothing. The whole "lap-ability" of either of them is a laughing joke. NON of them were ment to be used on your lap. They just doesn't feel like a traditional laptop. Both were ment to be used on a desk or a flat even surface. Software is a very personal preference, that part is true. Objectively, Samsung is just better for multitasking. DeX CAN be used for more than just "light" computing stuff. There are channels and subreddits dedicated to showcasing just how powerful and versatile DeX can be. You can't say "I can't use mobile apps to get work done in this Android-Windows like environment" while simultaneously saying "I can get work done in this Apple-Mobile app environment" in the same sentence while trying to say that mobile apps can't be used to get work done, that just tells me you're bad at tech and didn't really try to use the other device because it just wasn't familiar enough or it just wasn't what you are used to.

I'm a huge tech fan too, I absolutely love my iPad pro with the apple pencil but I equally love my note I mean my s22 ultra and my s7, s8+ and s8 ultra I like your comparison video but I did think the camera quality on both devices was so close it didn't really matter, the sound on the iPad to me sounded a little better but away from other device I don't think I would ever notice but Camera placement to me is a big deal, I do love the center camera!
And I have to agree with you on the keyboard for the Samsung it's definitely on the cheapside... I mean i like it but definitely wouldn't pay $350 for it, glad it came with it... I love how I can use my S Pen on my phone, tablet or even my wife's s21 ultra without any type of setup, I also use Bixby Vision with the S Pen to communicate in different languages to people around the world I love the auto detect language feature, I can translate something in a blink of an eye and type something out and send it back to them it's the ultimate communication device, there's just so much more I can do with an S Pen compared to the Apple pencil (I'm not going to keep on going on because I could) but when I'm in certain applications or using a pdf and I want to highlight something I find myself going back to my iPad using the apple pencil because it's just faster in those cases, I do have to say I never leave home without my iPad Pro or my S8+ they go everywhere with me because to me they're equally as good as the other it just depends on what I need it for at the moment.
FYI I'm getting that paper screen protector for my iPad 😁👍

@@pixelking_871 I think, in terms of iOS (based on the "apple and android"), Safari is better because it has adapted extensions. Although some are paid, after a year, there have been multiple extensions that makes safari more appealing if you'll be an iPad power user. I use chrome on Mac because of the free and more diverse collection of extensions but Chrome is very limited in iOS afaik (correct me if i'm wrong 😅).

If you're a creative the iPad pro is a better buy (photoshop, better universal pen support, etc). If you're a software dev the tab s8u is a better buy (running native Linux, having more apps tailored for that kind of stuff etc).
If you're a Mac user (like me) and don't rely on Google drive and suite for cloud things (unlike me) get the iPad pro. If you're a windows user, get the tab s8u.
I'm a mixed users. My wife is also a mixed user. I have a 14inch m1 pro macbook pro and the tab s8u. My wife has a 15inch galaxybook pro 360 with an iPad air 3. We both have android phones though. For me, a lot of my code, programs, and everything is unix based so I can really code on anything. And outside of needing macos for ios apps, I don't use my MacBook as much and just use my s8u for everything. And it's similar with my wife (medical field) outside of the very specific windows software stuff she doesn't use her windows laptop much and just uses the iPad (mostly because Microsoft one note and one drive syncs everywhere).
The important thing, like you said, is to always get what works best for you and your situation. Really neither is better than the other because they both do the base stuff like Netflix, email, game, etc really well. The pro features depend on your own profession

It depends on what you want to do.
I am getting older, and it's hard for me to read small text, particularly small text in e-textbooks or PDFs or digital comics, where I end up doing a lot of pinching and zooming, which can be really inconvenient if you're reading on a treadmill.
The S7+/S8+ is the perfect size. It's big enough to read small text without pinching and zooming, but still small enough and light enough to cradle in your arms for long reading sessions.
Since my S7+ is right at the limit of what I can cradle in my arms for long sessions, I know that the Ultra is just too big for what I want to do. It really looks like the Ultra was meant to be used on a tabletop or desktop.
If you're mostly on tabletops, then official Samsung keyboard cases are fine. As a longtime Galaxy Tab user, I never get official Samsung cases. I use my tablets as mobile devices. It's mostly in my hands, not on a desk or table, so I occasionally drop them, and official Samsung cases provide ZERO protection.
I always get a protective case with a built-in kickstand and pair it with a nice Bluetooth keyboard (I strongly recommend the Logitech K380). It works great as a laptop replacement for taking notes in class or doing light productivity work in MS Office or Google Docs/Sheets/Slides/etc. I made the mistake of buying an official case for the Galaxy Tab S2 and learned the hard way that official cases offer no protection.
I mostly use my tablet for reading (books, web articles, social media, email, etc), with a little light productivity work and the occasional Netflix/RUclips session. I've been very happy with the Galaxy Tab S series, and to be honest, I left Apple's "walled garden" in disgust back in the MacOS 9.x days, long before MacOS X or iOS. I'm just not willing to pay the extra money just so Apple can act like a dictator to me and to developers.

Hello there! I have my Tab S8 Ultra for about a year by now and have zero complains about the device so far. The Book Cover Keyboard is the only thing I really dislike at this whole setup. I´ve got it about 3 months after the device (I got the Bookcover Keyboard for free due to Samsungˋs early buy action). From day first I noticed a few very disturbing issues. First, as you already showed us in the video the keyboard is way too unstable (tbh a piece of cardboard feels more stable than this keyboard). Not only do the the mousepad click itself, the keys often get kind of ,,locked up´´ and are typing letters on its own wich is super annoying when you do a lot of paperwork or writing on it. It takes a few more smashes on the locked buttons to stop the unwanted letter spam. The magnets are also super weak. They almost lalready lose it when I only try to left the tabelt to put it aside. I had the microsoft surface go (2018) for a while with the original keyboard and the magnets were never an issue. Even now (almost 5 years later) it's working perfectly fine. I would never buy samsungs original Keyboard for th original price. To me it feels almost like scam. I'm already looking for alternatives because I need something stable enough to work with on my lap (due to travel).

After trying one of my friends s8+ I decided to switch to the s8 from an 12.9" M1 iPad. Reason being it's imo got the much better note taking experience. While I don't have many complaints with the iPad I used it almost only for note taking and web browsing, I found the writing experience was just far better feeling with the S pen. The Apple pencil, while it's nice and feels alright it just doesn't feel natural (I have a paperlike screen protector already). But apart from the writing experience I personally prefer iOS and think they have far better app library atm. But since I don't really use my tablet for anything but note taking (use my laptop and phone for most other stuff) it's not really an advantage for me.

I'd love to see you compare them after the One UI 5.1 update, that update worked WONDERS! It's crazy how they run differently but Samsung offers more flexibility, especially with Chrome.
Our dental software has a very, VERY limited mobile website. There is no iPad or Tab support. With my Tab S8U, I can force the full website version with ease and my boss's iPad absolutely will not, we tried him and me together to get it to work and it won't. I was taking patient notes while he was talking and wanted to show the patient the x-rays up close, so I opened the x-ray and handed my tab to him and he was so shocked and impressed that mine could offer everything a computer can!
Need to say, he wants to fill the office with TabS8 Ultras since we can do everything on there!
Edit: If you have a phone capable of using an Spen, you can use the same pen across all devices that support it. Ill be bouncing the pen between my Tab and S23U and it's so seamless!

I borrowed my sister Samsung tablet and I just really didn't like her tablet at all, being used to the iPad pro 2017 version for years. Just upgraded to the 2021 version and I still prefer that, it has so many better gestures that I've grown to love, the stylus is way better and the on screen keyboard is just so much better on the iPad. The only thing I liked better on her tablet, was that its more rectangular, but it's not really an issue, but I feel for watching movies and videos, it's just better on a wider rectangular screen. But again it's a minimal issue.

I disagree when it comes to the the track pads and keyboards because it' all comes down to what the user is used to and what there comfortable with, kinda like a laptop some have big bulky button's with some sound while others have sleek flat buttons that are a little more quiet, same with the pads some pads have two bulky button's in the back where some do not, and some are a little more sensitive then others, so there isn't really a winner when it comes the track pads and keyboard, it all comes down to your preference, neither one is really better then the other, it all comes down to what your comfortable with and what your used to. If you like fatter bigger buttons then the apple keyboard is for you, if you like sleek lite but quiet then Samsung keyboard is for you, and those are not the only keyboards that are out there, you can buy a decent good keyboards online that are blue tooth, USB C and Minnie, as well as apple lightning cord to USB female, and they perfectly fit your style for less money and can do even better then what Samsung and apple offer you,

Nice video comparison Chris! I have the M1 iPP 11 with the Logitech Combo Touch which I prefer over the Magic Keyboard. I like the larger trackpad, better all around device protection, full row of shortcut keys, and highly adjustable kickstand. I had the Magic Keyboard but took it back. Now, the Apple Pencil 2...that ain't going nowhere. Saying all that, Samsung has some features I wish the iPad Pro and iPadOS had. External monitor support with DeX is one of them. For doing work on the device itself though, I prefer the aspect ratio of the iPP. I replaced my MacBook Pro with my iPP for my real estate businesses. To me iPadOS is just more fluid and intuitive for the kind of work I do. I create and work with contracts, documents, and pdfs. I take a lot of notes, and sketch house and room dimensions. The camera is even good enough for taking photos for my listings. Communication with clients is also easy. One device that is easy and fun to use that takes care of all my business needs. Yes I do have an M1 Mac Mini for keeping backups on, but it gets used mainly for watching movies, reading news, and web surfing. I know it is the opposite of most peoples use case, but hey, I love my iPad and it just lets me work the way I need to. Bottom line is, I live happily in the Apple ecosystem and intend on staying there.
PS. Have you done a video comparison of the Surface Pro and the iPad Pro? I'd be very interested in seeing that.

I definitley doesn have fewer. Samsungs trackpad is mehh. I wish it was my Magic keyboards track pad. It also weirdly has different gestures to do things then touch screen input. You swipe down to go home on the trackpad, but if you use the screen you swipe up. The ipad is swipping up on the screen or the trackpad. the keyboard does flex if it is on your lap. I think the thing samsung did right was going with an original design/concept instead of trying to copy apple, by doing that it creates a market for people who like high end tablets without being locked to the apple ecosystem. I mean, I'm not an apple fan but I recognize their m1 chips are amazing... but I preffer android systems, I never knew I wanted a high end tablet til I started college and got myself a tab s6 lite, entry level with good s-pen support, amazing bang for the buck for people in college, samsung offers the best note taking app in android for free, awesome but simple write to pdf and stuff like that. Now my s8+ is being delivered today and I can't wait.... didn't go for the ultra since I will be taking it with me a lot.
One S8 series benefit is the sd card support, I bought the 128gb version and a sandisk extreme 512gb sdcard for 65 bucks and I don't think I'll have a storage issue anytime soon, even if it's not as fast as internal storage.

The Tab S8+ is in fact the competitor to the iPad Pro 12.0 as the Ultra is nearly 15-inches and if you are looking for a 15-inch tablet this is all there is. So for those wanting the biggest tablet the Tab S8 Ultra is the only choice. If comparing like with like then the Tab S8+ and iPad Pro rivalry is more nuanced and depends on your subjective needs. For me, I need a good keyboard and Apple wins this by a huge margin so easy win for iPad.

Your last comment has everything to do with Apple's echosystem. Try getting into Samsung's echosystem instead of judging by the tab alone, and you'll be surprised how fluid, flexible and open to outside compatibility it is!....People like us, we value our freedom to choose and customize and mix and match, we don't like being walled in, and Android & Windows do give us that in spades!...The nice thing about Samsung in particular, is that they offer you a very tight, very integrated experience with their echosystem, but also give you the option to go nuts if you want to venture outside it!

Well you did say it apple keeps it simple and it just works but the reason why i will always choose samsund is you have so many things you can connect to and change and thay come up with the ideas and apple will master it a decade later

I know the tab s8 ultra is absolutely brilliant but I just love the basic boring but simplistic way of the iPad that’s what I like I’m a minimalist but to all you Samsung nut hugger’s you’ve got yourselves a good tablet

I dont use the keyboard too much. Samsung kick stand is the best especially watching youtube and Nflix in the bed

The s pen won’t charge when you put it on top of the Samsung device, you need to put it on the back to charge it, for some reason. That’s a bad thing in my opinion.
