Pro tip from native Finn. Put on mid layer, leggings, then put on your snow pants, then shoes. Only after this put on your sweater and coat and beanie. Saves you from sweating. Happy New year to both of you!
Hi, in the end (9:18) of this video you had this "pole sled" . You are supposed to push by the short end of the pole. In this way you can easily make the sled move very speedily. In my childhood we had this pole-sled built on ice of a lake. It was also possible to detach that sled from the pole when somebody had given you good speed. Then you just flew on the ice.
Yes that is what we thought so we kept trying it but it wasn't working for us!! We must have been doing it wrong. It sounds great when you do it that way! Thanks so much for watching :)
Layers works. Between every layer has air insulating from the cold. Also you can remove and add layers when needed so dayback with some extra clothes is handy when doing activities. Much better than 1 thick layer over underware.
I’m ready for yogurt and fresh berries in Finland! Looks like a great breakfast option. Seriously so many layers, but as people from hot states in the US-- we’ll need it 😂 and looks like an epic day out in the snow! Glad you had some fun ❄️
I didn´t see if you tasted the cloud berries when yuo had your breakfast, those are very good. And you did a very good presentation of how to dress when it gets very cold. It was spot on. And it was so fun to see you playing with the sleds like kids again. 😁
What i use at -10c: Knee length thermal underwear, t-shirt. Flannel shirt and jacket, on the legs just padded pants and winterboots, with regular and woolen socks. Tube bandana around the neck, winter cap, sheepskin gloves. I put full length thermal around 20C. The jacket and the padded pants are very important. Oversized jacket that goes below your waist, with a good hoodie, and for pants.. go to the sports and ski section.. Those have absolutely the best winter gear. My movements are not restricted at all, the clothing these days is very light and in a way more comfortable than summer clothing..
You must go up north, Saana(Finish mountain)! The view from the top is breath taking!! They`ve made stairs to the top. Second or third actually, Near Saana is place where Norway, Sweden adnd Finland`s borderlines meet. (I hope I wrote that so It is understandable)!
@@JacobandJennyTravel I said this only because we who live here we also have to get a little used to the cold every year. If we wear everything right away, it will be cold in the middle of winter. It is understandable that if you are only here for a few days or a week, you don't have time to get used to the cold. It's more important to dress well and enjoy being outside because no one likes to freeze. Layering is the thing and I always told the kids that it's easier to take clothes away than to come back home to get them. At the height of Rovaniemi it may be -15 in the morning and close to zero during the day. In the evening -25. Remove the feces in the afternoon and the same clothes will last the whole day. However, the most important thing is to be able to enjoy the outdoors and have fun. You guys seemed to have enough.
That's maybe a bit overkill for a -10C, but better safe than sorry I guess. And being cold is a very personal thing so, each their own. My personal worst has been walking about 5km in -40 with basically wet clothes on. I probably had long johns, and wet jeans over that and my outer sweater was wet. Every piece of clothing froze on me. I was a stupid teenager.
Normal -10C for me is boxers, socks, jeans, shoes, t-shirt and a jacket. Sometimes I use a long sleeved shirt over the t-shirt. This is not appropriate if you are going to be outside for hours, but for me personally, just fine for anything like a doing a trip with max 1hr in the cold at a time.
As a finn, I just start sweating after seeing all those layers. For the most -10c cases long undies and winter pants are easily enough, unless you're like going to stand still for 2 hours outside.
Have you tried one of the basic Finnish things: latu umpihankeen It means that you go to a place where it has snowed a lot and take your skis and go skiing on a route you have made yourself in the snow. The first time is heavy and requires Finnish Sisu, the second time is lighter and the third time skiing is already easy. This is what I did every winter since I was a child. Thank You for your videos. I love watching your fun trip to my home country
Many layers of clothes is not necessary a good thing. You need air inside to keep warm. If you wear too many clothes, you risk compressing all your clothes, thus you haven't any insulating air. Jacob wearing tight jeans is definitely a bad idea.

Just like this!
Thanks for those tips!! And Happy New Year to you as well🎉
0:44 The right jam to put on it is Cloudberry Jam. 😋
Yes we for sure need to try it!! Thanks so much for watching :)

I like that snow machine in the background "good heavy snowfall" 6:26 ✌🏻😊
Hahaha there was the snow machine but it was also snowing at the same time😂 so much snow coming down from both!!😂❄️

That is great to know!! Thanks so much for watching :)

It is sooooo delicious! Yes layers are the most important for us! Can't wait for you guys to experience it!

We tried a yellow jam that might have been!! Thank you so much! Playing in the snow was great!! We really did feel like kids again! Happy New Year🎉
In napakelkka, you are supposed to push on the short end, not the sled, you dont have to run so much, and you gain some nice speed :)

That sounds great!! Thanks for sharing that. Have a Happy New Year!🎉
In Saariselkä, about 241 km to the north, there is the longest sledding hill in Finland, a place worth visiting :)
Whoa that sounds awesome!! Thanks for the recommendation :)
The jam you're supposed to put on the cheese is called cloudberry jam made from cloudberries. A golden yellow berry that grows in swamps and marshes.
That is so interesting!! We will have to try it soon! Thanks so much for watching :)
Yeah, that was mustard 😄
great to see that you are enjoying your time in our beautiful country :)
It is a wonderful country!! Thanks for watching :)

Ah yes Jacob really wants to go where all three countries meet!! Thanks for the tip :)

Yes that is what we thought so we kept trying it but it wasn't working for us!! Thanks so much for watching :)
Love these
Thank you friend!!
All the Finns are laughing thinking who the f*ck wears that much clothes ;)
Hahaha! Thanks so much for watching anyway :)
I was just wondering, how would you dress when it's really cold?
Hahaha probably in a lot heavier coats and more hot hands😂

Wow that would be a very long and cold walk!! Thanks for sharing that story! And thanks so much for watching :)
You should always try to be "comfortably cold" nothing makes you colder than sweat.
That is a good tip!! Thank you so much :)
As a finn, I just start sweating after seeing all those layers. For the most -10c cases long undies and winter pants are easily enough, unless you're like going to stand still for 2 hours outside.
Hahaha that makes sense!! We definitely aren't as use to it as you Finns ❄️ thanks for watching!

No we just visit a lot :) thanks for watching!

And those socks won’t be any warmer than one pair of good socks.
Good to know!! Thanks so much for your comment :)
