Wow! I grew up in Gosford in the 70's. Is that the Market Town centre? I remember when that opened. Mum used to shop there and dad parked his Ford station wagon where you were walking. It was really nice when new. The trailer thing was a stage where the local talent could sing or play. Sad to see it fall to ruin. I wonder why?
Damn that's going back a while, sure is! Apparently it was in a real sorry state for a while towards the end there (both condition and customer wise) before it finally shut down.
its sad people have trashed it like that. i remember going in to the coles just before this place shutdown, it was a very eerie place to visit, so empty and dark, even when it was operating
Thanks for the video. I used to skateboard on the rooftop car park of that mall in the early 80s as a kid. Me and some mates would head into town on a Sunday because everything was closed and the streets were ours. No cars, no-one around. Gosford used to be a thriving town but what's happened is a disgrace. I've never seen anywhere in Australia so rundown and derelict. It's like an old abandoned factory town in the US. I asked some locals what had happened and no-one could tell me, but it looked like a bomb had gone off. I suspect it'll become a satellite suburb of Sydney with high numbers of immigrants who can't afford Sydney and live in new apartment blocks near the train station. The NSW government is changing the planning laws for Gosford to allow apartment towers in the middle of town, so that's my bet for the future of Gossy. It's still nice down by the water near the RSL, but the CBD looks like a war zone.
As a fellow skateboarder, that's awesome to hear Drew. Must have a lot of great memories! With a few obstacles, that would be a perfect big spot for it...even these days. I'm really not familiar with the area so not sure what it was like but didn't realise it had gotten that bad. That being said, looking at it all from the roof, I do remember thinking it look congested and didn't really match with its nice surroundings. Apartment towers will definitely ruin it further.
@@aussiexploration Yes mate, plenty of good memories of Gossy. I went to school and worked there in the 80's. Sundays were especially fun as a kid because the town was empty so we'd skate and ride our bikes on the streets. The only action on a Sunday was at the old train station because it had an open bar! Yes, a bar! I was too young to drink but at least I could watch the trains come and go. I think Gosford will eventually come back but it'll be a very different version and will probably look more like current day Hornsby. Thanks again for your Marketplace video, I saw the mall last year in its sorry state and I'm glad it's been documented before it's demolished.
Gotta love growing up in small towns on Sundays, have memories like that from similar places in Victoria. Train station bar is awesome haha! True! Just completely stripped of its small town feel, and packed full of buildings, people and cars...happening everywhere at the moment.
It's red hot now Omni. Cameras, security and cops being called. People are still bypassing it as there's none inside, but there's hard climbing involved apparently. A lot can change in a short period. Regular talk about it on 'EXPLORE ABANDONED SYDNEY' FB page, keep an eye on that closer to your visit.
Definitely 24/7 as people have been getting busted at night. I can't recall the last time I've seen exterior cameras at bando's (that have been put there after the fact) with night vision, but see them inside sometimes, mainly hospitals and aged cares. Easy to tell by looking at them though, especially at night.
Yeah man, saw an update just yesterday...more unsuspecting people have been getting busted. Cops or security have been waiting for people as they come out of the building so they must have cameras. Technically still explorable if you get there at a time when the hole isn't boarded up, but you might have to wear a fine if you want to see it bad enough. Way more trouble than the spot is worth imo, maybe wait until closer to demolition when the heat usually dies down.
that big structure in the carpark used to be lifts down to Harvey Norman and Waltons
Ah right, cheers man!
got removed about 1993 in the first renovations @@aussiexploration

Have seen several people say that, easy to imagine it its current state.

Will do! Have a backlog of videos to post here, but editing for main channel is taking up all my spare time at the moment.
4:11 that might have been from imperial centre. Don’t ever remember eb games being in marketplace
Yeah, EB Games, The Reject Shop, Just Cuts, Flight Centre and Kims KitchenWare have always been in Imperial Centre.
me and my friends are planning to go this summer holidays any advice about the place and tips to get inside?
