Nice work, as always, Chris. The customer will surely be happy you were able to save a now vintage part of their home that they enjoy and cherish. Have you ever repaired intercoms that had damage due to rodents nesting in or on top of intercom wall boxes, circuit boards, etc, such as mice?
Hi Anthony: Yes, I have worked on Master Stations that had rodent related issues. These can be challenging due to the execrations and many time wires and cables have been chewed on and taken away - Chris
Hope you’re doing well. Can’t believe I just spent an hour watching someone de-solder and re-solder a circuit board 😉 I guess it goes to show how much I enjoy the channel. Oh man, I need to source one those fancy de-soldering guns. All I’ve ever used are wick and those dang plunger style solder suckers. I have a question… Most of the time if I replace an IC, I solder in an IC socket then plug in the new IC. Good practice or bad? Kind regards, Doug
Hi doglas: A top quality - gold plated - 14 pin - double whipper IC socket can cost anywhere between $2.00 - $3.00 each - That means for a IM3003 the additional cost is about $12.00 (that's at my cost) The benifit of having socketed IC's is that the IC can be easily replaced - However the average owner of a IM3003 is never going to replace an IC themselves. Back in the days when most IC's were 4000 series (which were very sepectible to static discharge damged) having socketed IC's was a popular thing to do - The NuTone I600 System had fully socketed circuit boards, becuase these things blewup if you look at them the worng way. . . I don't really thnk it's necessary to have sockets - Chris
Hi J Jung ILL: No, it's not a common problem. In fact I don't think that I can remember a IM3003 that the clock couldn't be set. There could be a wide variety of possible causes for this - including: Operator error - a failing clock IC - water damage to the display PCB - a general "age-related" failure of the IM3003 - water damage to the main PCB - not having the IM3003 fully connected to the terminal board - Inspection and testing would be needed to find the true source of the problem - Chris
@@northsideservicecompany3567 It's not user error, as I've set the clock with no issues in the past. The unit has other issues as well, loud buzzing when the speaker is on and low radio volume. The clock is the only thing the unit is used for
@@Far-East-Beast Ah - more information. The loud buzzing is the key - Your IM3003 is slowly dying and soon enough you won't have to worry about the clock, because the Master Station will be dead. . . It's time for your IM3003 to have it first rebuild - You can contact us directly about having this done - Chris nscompany@msn.com
I hope this Video gives you an idea on what type of work needs to be done - in a more extensive repair of a NuTone IM3030 with water damage - Chris

My de-soldering skills are as sharp as yours 😁
I would of said no way so I learned something good job!
Hi Gerald: Cool and Thanks - Chris
I have this same model, I'm unable to change the time. Holding the Time Set button and the Hour or Minute button does nothing. Is this common issue?
