I've always been interested in the process of powering a car with a small engine and the performance of the car afterwards. This channel is not only the best at showing it, it's kind of the only one. Everyone else is just like "this is my car it has a predator 212 in it thank you for watching"
this is the type of project I was wanting to do myself, but seeing how this requires fabricating and I lack those type of toolings, I'll just keep watching you do it.
Insane, this is why RUclips format is so popular folks. Series like this that suck you in down some rabbit hole you never thought you would ever want but find you need! Great work! I know the amount of hours it took to do the build and then also to shoot the footage and edit it. This is a labor of love and you should be handsomely rewarded for it!
WoW wow wow the ideas that you have just put in my head are insane!!!! I just bought a 50ft 70yr old boat with twin 6v53 DIESEL engines!!!!!!! It makes me wonder what I could do with a couple of 40 hp Yanmar's? I only need to make 6-8 mph. 😎😏👍
When I was about 17, I wondered if I could replace the engine in my father's spare car - a Morris 1200S - with a lawnmower engine. You've shown me that (a) I couldn't and (b) you have to be grown-ups to even try. Thank you, it's been hours of fun and many more to come, I hope.

I'm enjoying this adventure. I'm still sort of fascinated that modest size auto engines are achieving better fuel economy and power. The backyard thinking that let to so many 1cyl cars (as seen on aging wheels) is really outdated thinking. I look forward to the next improvements to your project.
Let's just appreciate how he took a small comment about the km/L measurement from last video and is now using L/100km notation. This channel is going places.
You are that kind of guy that helps Maybach engines become everlasting. At least a mechanic with extraordinary attention to detail and deep knowledge. And Maybach engines because they were build to run, and run, and run... and never fail. And they are fully modulare what does require a reassembly every 15 years but they keep going like they were build yesterday.
Now I understand how my dad's Datsun 120Y would do 120Km/h(75mph) easily in the 1980's, it only had a 4cylinder with of 1191cc displacement with only a 3 gear transmission!
That is still a stock, governed 420?!? Man jimbo, you put that 670 with some performance upgrades and you'll have to start racing people for pinks! Absolutely love the content, my favorite project on RUclips! Thanks for taking us along for this adventure! I saw a Honda insight the other day and you would have thought I saw a Ferrari from my reaction!
Wow! It's running like a champ and getting better every video! From the view inside the car it looks like your really flying on the road! Really enjoy watching your progress! 👍👍
You could also give non-circular sprockets a try, as you could optimize the gear ratio on a stroke-by-stroke basis; after all, the engine makes all of its power during the power stroke, and none of its power during the other strokes.
This channel is definitely in my top 5 now. Building my kids stealthy go karts to tear up the neighborhood quietly we use some flexible exhaust tubing. Yeah that stuff you see in the exhaust isle at oreillys and giggle at. I have no doubt it'll quiet your hot rod down.
Awesome content, please keep uploading these videos! I used to modify cars in high school, and I feel like if you modify that engine a lot and add a small turbo it could almost do 90mph
Be easy two throw in two in wheel motors and add a generator to the Predator to make a diy hybrid. Actually, as I think about it, the way to set it up would be 3 or 5 motors - one connected to the Predator to act as a DC generator by using the regen function of a beefy motor controller. So you'd have the Predator idling, and a fully charged battery as you start driving. You'd have to figure out a control circuit to ramp up engine throttle based on battery charge, but at some point it would open up and go to maximum to charge the battery. Assuming that you are using less than the max wattage the Predator can generate (around 7kw - which works out to around, 9.5 hp) it would charge the battery to max and go back to idle. The benefit of this setup is that you could draw much higher burst power through the electric motors than you ever could from the Predator. Qsmotor makes some simple efficient motors rated for 8kw continuous, 19kw burst. You can actually pull a lot more both continuous and burst by adding ferrofluid to create a heat bridge between rotor and stator. Like double So 19kw *2*2 = 76kw or a little over 100hp. Now, we're talking usable performance. That's the power for brisk take off, short steep grades, etc Battery size would dictate duty cycle of the predator/generator, and with a large enough battery, you could charge it when you have access to cheap electricity, and cut your fuel costs. Add solar collectors to the car and it can partially charge while it's parked at work.
"Hillbilly Proving Grounds" is something everyone could have where they live. We should map them, make it a route system. You can be HPG Route 1. Then people everywhere will know where they can test their garage -built abominations near them!

I have found these videos very interesting and enjoyable to watch. It reminds me of a project I saw in the magazine Mother Earth News in the 1980s. They used a mid 70’s Capri(think Mustang II) and created a hybrid vehicle. It was powered thru the 4speed gearbox by an electric motor which was powered by a 16hp portable arc welder and battery combo. 60mph on gas, 90mph on gas/battery combo. I love this kind of stuff! lol. Phil

Should I been thinking from the start except for you would have to worry about heights but that’s really not a problem if you know how to cut seven things and make the engine a bit lower because I can see you not a lot of. Things that I could do differently that would make it a lot lower I would make the first set of sprockets extend out further so they would be looking at the front of the engine stuck out it’s very hard to explain but I would be putting the sprockets not directly under the engine I’ll be putting them beside itAnd with a few minor modifications this could work

Fun project car and so many ways to go if you you're wanting to. I enjoy this because I came really close to buying one of these Insights, got a Jetta diesel instead. Bigger more substantial vehicle and I'd be driving 95% highway miles so the hybrid system wouldn't be at maximum use. Some insight drivers were getting around 70 MPG. Maybe a bigger engine would deliver better fuel economy but that's not your goal. So.. patiently waiting for the next installment. Got any robots to add to the go kart?
If this was being used as a city car, it's performance would be perfectly acceptable with no further modification. It probably wouldn't even feel strained around town
I came across this channel a little while back and watched all the episodes of this series with the Insight and I am thoroughly impressed! It has been really fun to watch!
Thank you for sharing. I think if you replaced that old tractor muffler with a straight pipe and put a short glass pack on the end, you would enjoy that sound better! Great mileage! Good setup. You make me wonder how an automatic transmission would do with your set up? Just thinking. I find your work very informative, entertaining, and rewarding to watch! Once again, thank you for sharing!
Windshield. If wanting to cut down on more weight, could replace it with a 3-5mm thick polycarbonate one, back window too. Some say acrylic is easier to cut, shape, install though. Stock rims and tires? Ever thought about using lighter rims and tires, perhaps more narrow too? Maybe narrow motorcycle tires? No tensioner for the belt? Would that help, or interfere?
Finding you was like finding a small pot of gold on RUclips. I also gotta appreciate all the work you're putting in for this
I totally agree with this comment. Very impressive.

This is very fun i like the way you are showing us the build and mod . You should get paid to do this . Keep em going we love this .
