Chadwick might not be to everyone's taste, but that doesn't change the fact that HoL produced a some of the very best albums of their time. Simply great songs.

It's not just nostalgia, these were great days. When real-indie bands like HOL were around, even Snub TV was cool.

Brilliant! Around 1990 one of the best bands in the world.

This performance is senSATIONAL- they truly were magnificent in this incarnation of the band. The song is too short by far, so extending it like this is a much more satisfying experience

I saw them and heard them for the first time in 1997 at St Andrews hall in Detroit, they are so cool and under rated. Love them to this day. I can;t stop listening to them.

This tune makes me wish I was young again in the late 80's early 90's.

Great band who came along at exactly the wrong time. Five years earlier or later they would have been much bigger.

Guy Chadwick - you are a 3 things: a great song writer; a Conceited self indulgent: and probably much more....

Ahhh.....and it was all going so well, Christine, Destroy....they had some songs! They weren't to know, but for me at least, it was all downhill from here.

I discovered them late and followed them till their ends... the latest album was okai, no disgrace for a band reunited. I called them white boy pop with soul and people laughed. I don't know how else yo describe them: "Indie" seems like a blanket slur.

@dommywaddle go to the top of the class. i saw coldplay at the bigdayout in perth when 'yellow' came out (ok, it was ages ago), the crowd stood there til it came on then left to go hear..erm, oh i dont remember..maybe, new order!

Yea agree.....If it wernt for their bad TIMING & THE STONE ROSES THIS BAND COULD HAVER BEEN BIG BIG BIG!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that way too often, people spend their effort trying to compare a band to something they already know, rather than appreciate it in words that don't describe anything else, or describe it simply on it's own merits. They probably do this because it's comfortable to grasp about like that, or perhaps they don't even know they are doing that. Annoying though. Not at all like Coldplay. House of Love is sultry and haunting, just like House of Love.

I'm with olliesdrunk on this. Saying that HOL paved the way for Coldplay is like saying that without Public Enemy, we would never have had the pleasure of hearing Gareth Gates and his ilk. (A) it's just wrong and (B)if it were true, it's not something that should be applauded.....

The second track (Man To Child) is a stroke of genius. I prefer this version to the studio album version. Why do bands like The House Of Love never get the recognition they deserve? Not even in the late 1980's/early 90's when they were at their peak did they really get that much recognition, only from the die-hard fans. Then we have two talentless twats called Jedward who get treated almost like royalty!

@wwwtherockernl - what do you mean - 20+ yrs down the line and their music is just as relevant as it was then. and to those comparing hol to coldplay...really???

  • @Philmod68

I agree with the both above comments...you CAN'T even put Coldplay and the House of Love in the same league! I remember first hearing Coldplay and right away thinking "who are these LAMEASSES trying to use the House of Love sound....Its like a bad version and they SUCK!" hahaha

    gud ol ollie drunk....
i agree to some degree. but it now sounds trite and old hat to attack glamour.. though comparing cold play to owt circa j a m c, house of love and that ilk is very very very out there - i.e. it doesnt require scrutiny... it's akin to taking away the hard graft of the movers and shakers who came before h o l... maybe cold play should suffer more for their (he)art??????????????????
