I love the addition of depth to the song, but I don't like how far they strayed from the riff. With the riffs that they are using it makes it sound more like a generic modern heavy metal song than something energetic and driven. The vocalist, she has a great signing for but I think for her to capture the energy of the song she should change her style. Her style in the song is too soft...
@alejonightwish It was a big mistake to run off with the riffs, imo the only good cover is a cover that respects the original. A good example would be Fear Factory's cover of "Cars" and Whitesnake's own cover of "Aint no love in the heart of the city. When I hit the play button on the video and got through the opening lyrics I expected the main riff of the song but got something totally different, it killed it worse than her vocal style. She needs to add gruff to her voice, and restore the riff.
I agree with evilcartman420 : I am a die-hard fan of Tarja but this cover don't fit with her . Her body language is hard-pushed, emphatic, I don't like. Poison was a successful cover, not that one. Probably, a little wink at England (required marketing?), but in my opnion it's an artistic mistake. Tarja, your talent is exceptional, don't try to please, be yourself. PS: sorry for Timo and Toni, they will get over, I am sure.
@alejonightwish To understand what I'm trying to communicate, you'd have to understand what "Still of the Night" is about. The song is a stalker song, a very animalistic sexual predator anthem. It's aggressive, it's emotional and it's got a slight dusting of blues thrown into the kettle. Which is why I do not believe her vocal style in this performance is not suitable, her style in this is more like opra than communicating an emotion.
@alejonightwish I'm not telling you that you have to agree, what I'm trying to get at is that doing covers is a trickier project than writing original material, because you are taking a song that already has familiarity and changing it around. The song for me becomes more enjoyable at around 0:47, as they are implimenting the actual riffs rather than cutting them out entirely. And her little "YEAH", I feel she needs to use that type of vocals in the song. *To be continued*
This is funny. The track is one of the most raunchy metal songs in the 1980s as it's got roots in Deep Purple when David Coverdale fronted them. It's the most blues based heavy metal song. Tarja's vocals are unique but covering this track is out of her territory as she's rooted in classical, it's a track that doesn't quite fit with a symphonic metal delivery.
NOOOO please stop posting these videos of this cover...it's unbearable to listen to such a good singer destroy such a classic song...she sounds ridiculous.

I'm not dissing her or her performance, but she's covering a song that has an expected feel and level of energy. She's performing one of Whitesnake's definitive songs, she's got a certain level to live up to for us.
@alejonightwish However, the breakdown, the bridge and energetic solo were great. My only complaint is that they shouldn't have interrupted the flow of the bridge with the "ting, ding, dong", but rather mixed it in with the flow.

Sounds about as right as Elvis singing Cannibal Corpse. The band massacred the song as well.
