Ive been stacking for decades and never owned a sigma until I ordered the investor tonight, I trust my eyes, especially with a loupe, but some counterfeits are incredibly good and incredibly well done. I can sleep better on trades, buys, and sells with this machine. If selling gold especially, having sigma proof sells inventory fast.
Yeah, the days of trusting your eyes are over. Fakes can be so good now. Look at the watch market, there are fake Rolexes that can fool pawn shops. Even videos and audio can be deep faked now. I can't imagine what it will be like in a few years when everything can be faked practically perfectly
Still using the Sigma Metalytics Original Bullion Set with all three wands. After years of use I can honestly say this is one of the best investments I ever made. I would like to have one of the Handheld XRF Analyzers but the price is crazy high. Thanks for the excellent video Sir., and keep up the good work. Life is good....!!!
Handheld XRF only tests the surface of the coin. There are gold wrapped tungsten coins that have fooled XRF machines... which is why, if in doubt - cut the gold coin or assay (melt it), then test with XRF.
I didn't know they came out with a new Sigma; I like that the screen is integrated. I have the Mini Pro, and the only other advantage the Mini Pro has, besides the ones you mentioned, is that I can pair it to any size tablet. So, if I'm after those 1,000-gram bars, I can still use the specific gravity measurement on a tablet because the screen is large enough to accommodate larger bars and rounds.
excellent video, and an incredible but excessively expensive machine, I will continue with the traditional methods, measuring weight and acid, best regards from Spain 🇪🇸
I bought the pro mini for saving weight. It is odd using my phone but it provides confidence in spot checking metals in stores or in my new acquisitions!
Thanks for sharing, buying PCGS, NGC, CACG, and even ANACS graded coins is the way to go! Having two or three numismatists who look at each coin and grade hundreds of coins a day gives reinsurance that the coins are genuine and marketable for generations to come. Happy collecting!
The gold coin at 5:20 passed the first check but failed the second check for size so it was considered fake? Isn't the first check for purity to verify it's actually gold? Maybe I'm confused but even though it failed the second check wouldn't it still have value based on weight or are you saying even though it passed the gold check it's still somehow fake both in content and size?
How and why did the fake gold coin pass the first test? If it only detects the surface of the metal, then how reliable is the Sigma original without the specific gravity test? Should we use the wand that penetrates deeper on coins also just to be safe?
I've been thinking about purchasing a tester, but since I buy my metals only at my LCS or reputable on-line companies like SD Bullion, do I really need a tester?
Quick question. Lets say you keep stacking for a while, buying nice shiny new stuff. When it comes time to sell some of your stuff could you get more of your premium back by selling to individuals rather than to a store? Would those individuals be more comfortable purchasing if they can see it tested by something like this? There are reasons for these things existing, not every shop can afford an XRF gun but needs to test buybacks for example.
yes, rather then engaging the brain a bit more you'll end up buying from the most expensive and sell to those offering you the least (reputable dealers). At least you'll be comfortable.
Depends on how much you stack and from where. Buying a sigma, and pursuing private party sales instead of dealers has saved me rediculous amounts of money as a stacker. Thousands of dollars. Also, as stated, if you go to sell gold yourself, or even silver, having a sigma sells your stuff fast and at retail prices. They're worth the price. Get a pro, pro mini, or investor.
im 14 and started buying silver. at the moment ive got 10 britannias, 4 perth mint kangaroos and a 100g scottsdale silver bar. i live in uk. do you have any advice?
Have you ever seen a false negative with a sigma tester? I have a 1881 CC Morgan, and I've shown it to several coin dealers who specialize in Morgans, and after looking at it in detail they all claim it's legit. It weighs good. However, on two different sigma testers, when tested on one side it is one space inside the brackets, but on the other side it is one space outside the brackets. And the magnet test is odd too - it seems to slide a little faster than other Morgans, but is still slow enough to give me doubts... I'd love to test it on one of these new Sigmas!
Thats a relief that my Sigma Pro isnt outdated. :-) Looks like a sweet system though. I really wanted the Pro Mini. I think I still like it better than this new one. I'm happy with my Pro with external bridge anyway.
I recently bought the sigma investor and put 2 graded pure silver coins on it and it failed to show in the green only the yellow towards the red. Same thing when I used the wand. Can it mean I was sold fake silver or do the holders make the readings false?
I like these but stupidly over priced. Can get top line metal detector for that money. Use a magnet, ping test, scales, micrometer and a loupe. Fraction of the cost.
All true…..but that’s a lot of tools and equipment to drag around with you when you are trying to BUY silver and gold at shows, from shops, or from individuals. These machines exist for a reason. To solve that problem. They are portable and accurate and fast.
First off I love your content silver dragons, would have liked more info as in what were the failed coins made out of? Why would a coin pass the metal test then fail the specific gravity test? Just a little more info as ya went..
The SELL flag is up!! At least for me. Selling as much as I can for now. Will buy back again lower. Buy low sell high. Nothing goes up forever or down forever. You’re welcome
Still way too pricey, for fudge sake you can get a smart phone for $50 all day, and it has more computing power that all the Apollo missions combined, not sure what exactly proprietory process they use, likely its nothing more than a copper coil taking an inductance reading and comparing it to a known library . Heck you can get a pocket pinger and a free phone app, I'd argue, just as effective, and still have enough left for $100 face worth of junk. Sure for a shop its kinda necessary, thou coinsops operated just fine since the beginning of time without them. Good luck with the sales.
Saw previous video about how the Mini doesn’t do 999. Does this new one do 999 ? Looked at their website and didn’t see. Also reached out to them too. Thanks
Don't rely on single testing method. Cheap quality fake coin can be detected easily, the hardest one is tungsten core gold coin/bar. - Someone told me sigma verifier cannot detect fake coin /w thick gold layer and tungsten core. Sigma verifier uses magnetic field to determine the metal. If the layer metal is thick enough, magnetic field will go though the gold layer instead of pass though the tungsten core. - Gravity test (water submerged method), measures the "volume" of the coin. Since tungsten density is close to gold, this method doesn't work on tungsten core gold coin. - Actually, ultrasonic thickness gauge + Caliper is the best method to test tungsten core gold coin/bar. Gold is 3240m/s, tungsten is 5220m/s. If it has core tungsten, the display thickness should be much less than the actual thickness.
Great. I spent $1200 on the original PMV and am not happy with it. It's clearly 10-year-old technology that has advanced considerably (but not adequately) since then. If Sigma Analytics were a consumer-responsive company, they would offer people a trade-in to upgrade to a newer unit that does what it should for the money! Instead, they are selling them at double the price they were introduced at. DO NOT BUY THE ORIGINAL! They are trying to dump them at an exorbitant price for what they do, and you will not be happy. Save your money and buy a newer one. I feel like I just pissed away $1200.00.
And when you sell to an individual to get the best price possible (instead of to a dealer who will pay below spot) would not a machine like this be a way to prove that you are reputable and your bullion is real? Everything has its uses. So does this machine.
I USE RARE EARTH MAGNETS ON MY EXCLUSIVE STACK OF 10 OZ. SILVER BARS. THEY AVERAGE .250 THICK OR A 1/4 "AND MY ASSORTMENT OF RARE EARTHS PENETRATE TO DO A GREAT CHEAP JOB. THE MAGNETS ONLY COST ME $40.00 FOR THREE DIFFERENT SIZES AND STRENGHS . I ALWAYS BUY FROM THE SAME THREE DEALERS FOR THE LAST 15 YEARS. BEEN STORING ALL TYPES OF SILVER SINCE 1955 WHEN MY HUGE CUSTOMER BASED PAPER ROUTES BROUGHT IN SILVER OF THE REALM CONSTITUTIONAL 90% SILVER COINS. I OWN 9 5 GALLON BUCKETS FULL OF THEM WITH SEALED RUBBER MALLET COVERS.
About 15 rolls of Mercury dimes. Nice to have, but not the fortune of King Midas. But if you get fooled on a tube of SAE’s or a 1 Oz GAE you will be in tears and wishing you had the machine before you went shopping.
If the gold coin was fake why did it pass the purity test in the first place. So if we were using the original it would have passed but actually would have been fake? I thought it would have failed from the beginning.
Lotsa HATE being thrown at these machines in the comments section - clearly due to their pricing - which the bulk of the stacker community finds both frustrating and offensive. 🤨 This creates ill will and prompts many to unfairly malign the capability and utility of these machines. In reality this is all sour grapes because we know the machines work and most express a desire to own one…..IF they were priced more reasonably. But because they are NOT, stackers get pissed and start spinning all sorts of tales about how useless and unnecessary these devices are. And yet…..we are all here because a device like this has UTILITY for us, no? 🧐 A smart company would fix this problem and cut prices BIG TIME and OWN THIS MARKET forever by being the biggest volume seller of quality precious metals testing machines. I don’t comprehend why the manufacturer cannot grasp this. 🤷🏻♂️
I can see it now 6 or 7 Lanes in my grocery store and they all accept gold they're the registers the cashiers are fluent in fractional gold and silver and knowing how to use the machines that test em
No…..we’ll just go back to a gold standard. The gold will be in a vault (after being tested) and you will use gold certificates at the supermarket…..just as my grandfather did a century ago.
I've always wanted to get me a precious metal verifier but originally when they were 750 bucks seems like a lot till covid said in and they were 1300 to 1500 bucks And I thought that was just outrageous. Hopefully with these more models they'll come down with their prices so the average stacker can afford it and you don't have to be a business model to need it. The one thing I would change on that unit is between the keypad and the right hand side of the unit probably where you're going to end up plugging the wands into I would have put them on the top of the face so you didn't have to pull it out of the case. Hey that rhymes, call me MC Silver. 3:14
If I can buy a decent house somewhere for $1,600 please point me in that direction. Now…..maybe it will buy my DOG a fancy dog house for that price…. 😂
…And you will pay BIG PREMIUMS over spot too! If you had a good tester you could buy from the public for below spot…..just like the dealers do. But you gotta have a way to test it or a scammer will sell you Chinese counterfeits and clean you out!
@marianmoses9604 Sorry, but you were unable to convince me to buy from eBay. I will be buying from SD bullion for the rest of my life like forever. Does that make you mad that I'm buying my metals from reputable online dealers? Send me your address so I can send you a tissue box to soak up those tears 😢 do always automatically assume people will buy high premium products 🤣.
I bought a sigma tester about a year ago. Expensive but zero regrets. Just makes the buying and selling process so much smoother.
Ive been stacking for decades and never owned a sigma until I ordered the investor tonight, I trust my eyes, especially with a loupe, but some counterfeits are incredibly good and incredibly well done. I bought my investor at AG Bullion a couple weeks ago and I’m so pumped to get it soon open release date. Thanks for review!
I bought a sigma pro 2 years ago and it’s saved me from buying fakes
If you're running a business 100% worth it. You want consumers to have confidence in your products.
I bought the pro mini for saving weight. It is odd using my phone but it provides confidence in spot checking metals in stores or in my new acquisitions!

The slabs can be faked. Pcgs with the NFC technology is a great addition to avoid fake slabs, but not all slabs have this

I stack gold, so it pays for itself if I can catch just one fake gold 1 oz coin. But to your point, it's only for some.

I was planning on doing a similar video on my own channel! You beat me to it! 😂 Great minds think alike I guess. Excellent video. Thanks for sharing.
You still can, he didn’t mention testing junk silver coins
Interesting addition to the line up. I guess it fits right under the large pro model in the line up. Thanks!

is there any type of machine where you can just put the metal onto the sensor and it will tell you the metal type and the exact purity?

Will it work for junk silver? How much does it cost?
It does, but you'd probably be wasting your money as junk silver is rarely, if ever, fake. It costs $1,700.
work with 14k gold jewelry?
Thank You 🔥🐉
What’s the story behind the fake gold maple? How’d you come across that?
I loved that video you did that showed other testing methods, I don't want to waste money on a sigma.
Ouch expensive for us small guys how about a rental unit to test and return? That would be nice
Everytime I get close to buying one I end up just putting that money on another ounce of gold. But one day I will break down and get one. 🤣🤦♂️
FYI last week April 2024 I used you link code was good in case it’s sponsees
Thanks for sharing.
You can test it in a case? That's surprising.
Why would it pass the 1st test and not the 2nd?

Trade in the old one? And do what with it? Sell it to other consumers, old AND second hand? Captains don't whine, nor they are brokies

wish someone would rent these. crazy expensive. If you aren't buying tons and selling just too much money.
Nuts. Buy a cheap thickness measure device which works with speed of sound.
Why did it pass the first test if it was fake
Does this have a setting to test 90%?
Absolutely
So this device doesn't test 90% silver then?
If the maple leaf has milk spots then you know it's real
Nice but a little costly.
Just needs to catch one fake 1 oz gold coin to pay for itself.

just go to Ebay lol.
A ten dollar multimeter combined with half a brain will save you the price of this piece of junk.
