There's many reasons why it sounds like that. By removing the factory intake, you have eliminated the resonators which dampen the sound coming from the intake, which is why you couldn't hear it before. Now with a straight pipe and big filter, the resonance from the intake plenum as the piston is vacuuming the air into the cylinder comes right back out from the intake and thus the loud growl you hear. It's even louder on the outside.
I just bought a used Grand Cherokee Summit that already had the K&N intake installed. I think it sounds like it means business and the acceleration is awesome.
Do u have to take the negative battery cable off When you put the KNN on her also I have a 5.7 and I do not get that whoosh sound did I do something wrong
BlklimitedX is the reason I got one installed on my Grand Cherokee. It definitely give you a little more kick. It’s a little loud but you’ll get used to it. Congrats on the upgrade!
Hey, I just watched your vid the other day on this same topic lol. Already loving how close knit this community is, less than two weeks until I get my Overland 🙏🏽
So I finally just got my k&n intake couple days ago and was wondering why it says that you have to disconnect the negative battery before installing it?
I found with outside air temp over 110, the Jeep with the K&N is a slug. Lack of throttle response, too much hot engine bay heat going into engine. Removed mine and returned to stock, much improved throttle response, less interior noise by far! I can hear the Borla exhaust now.
One of the first mods I did on my 2011 jeep grand Cherokee limited 5.7 hemi was a k&n cold air intake system. I've been in multiple arguments that it wasn't a cold air intake, but that it's a performance intake and makes a dramatic increase on acceleration and fuel mileage. I'm an old school guy who drove muscle cars and would replace the factory air cleaner with a round moroso air cleaner which would suck much more air in from 360 degrees around. I'm not going to debate whether this is a cold air intake, because you would either have to have an ice box or ram air intake to bring cold air in, but if it's 90 degrees outside you're still going to bring in hot air. The difference is the airflow!! My factory air cleaner had a small intake tube which brought the air to the bottom of the airbox, then had to go up through the air filter until it got to the top of the airbox, then make a 90 degrees turn through another tube into a large expansion chamber, then make another 90 degree turn from the center of the expansion chamber to the tube eventually going into the throttle body! My K&N performance air filter completely does away with that and sucks in air from 360 degrees around it and basically sends it through a stainless tube directly into the throttle body. Definitely better acceleration, sound, and fuel mileage!! It also gives you that powerful sound of an old school muscle car when the secondaries kick in on a 4 barrel carb. BEST MODIFICATION I'VE EVERY DONE AND K&N STANDS BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS!!
I have the K&N 77 series in mine also. 5.7 HEMI V8. There's a definite increase in throttle response, HP, and in MPG. Plus it looks and sounds awesome!
@@polish_sausage8678 same, I’ve noticed I’ve been getting around .8 on my 30 minute drive to work as opposed to .3-.4, and that’s even while being kinda on the throttle! Any increase is a plus to me!

@@albertopagano2650 ... Well it got rid of a slight delay when I put my pedal into it. Sounds great.... yes getting rid of that big rectangle box in front made a difference. But I get 11 to 15 mpg. I love the sound of a V8..🐻🇺🇸
I'm assuming your 2021 Limited X has the Sport hood. (SRT hood). Do you notice any water getting on the filter from the hood vents? I just bought a 2021 X also. and this concerns me.
Yeah I think I’m gonna go ahead and order one now for my ‘17 GC Trailhawk. I’m dying to hear what it will sound like in Sport mode once I get that swapped out. Awesome vids btw man.
Good tip for some cars, but these as well as most Chrysler engines don't use mass air flow. They use speed density. So the sensor on the intake is an air charge temp sensor, not as sensitive to oil or dirt build up as mass air flow sensors.
Honest question… why install a CAI if you don’t like the sound? The sound is about as expected as swapping a muffler. You know it’ll change the tone. And did you consider the AFE intakes? They’re a bit more but a lot of them either utilize the stock bottom air box and they’re enclosed. So you get the performance but with muted sound.
So disconnecting the NEGATIVE BATTERY connection not necessary as the installation directions stated? I'm assuming for both Safety as well as RESETTTING the computer CPU w/ making necessary adjustment calculations based on new hardware feedback by the K&N system......
Drop in intake filter is wayyy better than the CAI. Jeep designed the intake system perfectly in my opinion, the filter is what allows it breathe more air easier not the tubing.

Sounds great
Why you complaining my man? It sounds like a beast!
Yep definitely could hear a difference like it doesn’t muffled your engine much so you could hear it really growl
I love the sound now!!
I have a 2014 overland and was thinking about doing this brother. Great vids homie 🙏🏻
Appreciate the love!!
Did u do it and if so do u get a good sound
It didnt make a noticeable differance . I own a Laredo & really loved your Jeep black rims .
If you spray a little WD-40 wouldn't it clip on easier
Probably! It’s not too bad to get on overall though!
sounds gooooood
