When I was a kid my family owned a 1969 Chevy Impala with a black vinyl top . That car was very fast and very fun to drive.

In the US, many towns have classic American muscle car meets in parking lots where you can see them up close and personal. You could fit up to 6 adults in these cars because the front and back have bench seats, not bucket seats like today. Mom's, dad's, teens, and professional racers had these types of cars.

As excited as y'all get over cars, once again, I have to recommend NHRA Fire Breathing Monsters. Most people do have a favorite muscle car, but there's very little prejudice among the different manufacturers, as long as they fall between the coveted years of 1964-72, although there are exceptions. My personal favorite is the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, as it is the only model year that Chevrolet offered a car with more advertised horsepower than the Corvette.

I remember boys in my high school driving old SS, Camaros, Dodges and TransAms. They were fast and loud. Often they would be doing work on the body, would be painted with primer, etc.

Muscle cars look good but when you want looks AND for something that is practical and reliable....go for the Jeep Wrangler!!! But....the Shelby Mustang is used by some police departments here in the US. I know they are used for their police in Puerto Rico; Most of these cars are still owned by proud owners and alot of them participate in car shows that are held all over the US during the summer months. I know around here, there 2 biggest are during the Memorial Day and Labor Day holidays. Those engines will get you in some real trouble if you don't control them right. The could have used an example of a car called "The General Lee" for one of the Dodge Charger models. This car was featured on the CBS television series "The Dukes of Hazzard." It was a 1969 Dodge Charger with a Hemi Orange exterior and a Confederate flag on the roof. The car had a 440 Magnum engine with 375 horsepower and a top speed of 135 miles per hour, allowing it to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.4 seconds. The used the reference of the movie "Smokey and the Bandit" for the Firebird Trans Am but did not reference the General Lee for the Charger. SO, I though you guys could just look it up and see on your own time. Overall, it looks like you guys enjoyed these cars.

I grew up with 4 older brothers during the late 70's and into the 80's. Think between them, they had good number of these muscle cars. One of my brothers was exceptionally mechanically inclined. So everything was tricked out.

My wife had a 1965, two door white with red interior Mustang. Her father bought it for her. She said that her dad had to put 2 heavy bags of sand in the trunk for stability. If she stop the car fast it could turn around. Scary for her.

Pre 1970s, the cars were huge, but after the 1970s because of the gas crisis they had to be made lighter, smaller and more gas economical. All of those old muscle cars were thick steel and real chrome, which is why the HP and torque is so high, even on every day drivers. It had to move a lot of weight of the car itself. Definitely the 500+ HP cars were made for teens and drag racing. There are still some old drag racing strips around the US where people will race these old cars, but mostly owners want to preserve them as collector cars and only take them out in the summer on clear days. Also, those cars today, depending on condition, are worth anywhere between $35,000-75,000 and up. You can even find old project cars that you can work on and get those for around $10-20,000.

These cars were geared for drag racing. So it would take off very fast but they only had 3 or 4 gears. Not like today where my challenger has an 8 speed gear box. Or transmission is you prefer.

The only way a car can go 170 miles per hour (273.588 km/hour) would be if it had a rocket attached to it. The narrator said 117 mph (188.29 km/hour). The only roadway in the States that would allow such a speed (117/188) is a race track.

Quite a few of these weren't exactly original cars. Those GTO Judges they were showing are. That is why its uglier under the hood doesn't have all the aftermarket modern chrome and all that quite a few of these other cars had. Like that GT500. They weren't a 6 speed either like the guy in the video said they were 4 speed cars. They did used to use a lot of chrome but some of it was actually just stainless steel wasn't all chrome and the chrome rims you see on some of these cars never came that way from the factory those were all modern wheels. I have had quite a few of these still own some of them today.
