I love Noel Coward,I never saw any version of private lives.I really enjoyed it.A person can say horrible things to one another without using profanity,it is more memorable and hurtful this way.
I saw Maggie Smith in this on the stage, a couple of years before this film was made. Most of a lifetime ago, so I can't say that I recall details, but I seem to remember being even more impressed with that production than this. It was in London, perhaps at the Haymarket...? BTW, the actress who plays the French maid went on, the next year after this, to appear as the rather predatory stereo-typed French student in the ITV comedy Mind Your Language.
Thank you so much for the download Charming beautifully acted wonderful sets and costumes when one watches the mediocrity that one is handed these days it saddens me . So once again thank you .
There is absolutely no point in whipping up a critique on the work of the great and very smooth NOEL Coward. It would be impertinent. One knows immediately you're in the presence of someone who is a Master at the craft. Here we all are a century later watching something that has a timeless quality. He understands how the theatre operates, how actors work . Some folks would find this pretentious. If they do then best they return to the cartoon, or watching cars drive endlessly in circles ... I suppose it would be somewhat reassuring. No, give me a Coward play anytime there is always something fresh about the way he understands and constructs his characters. He obviously understood people very well. Whilst he may write about the moneyed classes both old and new he offers an insight into each individual character and each one stands up to our deconstruction and we find what motivates each one as an individual real human being. Nevertheless, it makes it all very stimulating entertainment.
I dunno. Some clever lines and some real emotions but overall - what a shallow view of life. It's pretty much Downhill from the time they arrive at the Paris apartment.
Boffo performances all round.
❤️Noël Coward-Forever❤️
Fabulous play
Noel you brilliant bastard..huzzah! Your magnificent!
Thank you for making this masterpiece available!

Penelope Keith is the perfect antidote for anyone who only knows the tired Norma Shearer portrayal of Amanda.
There's no reason to praise one woman by bashing another. You can simply compliment the one woman politely. It's more sincere.
Sunshine Here, here.
Sunshine different eras and styles
@@Sunshine-zm1fx Yes. Thanks for putting it so well! Both are wonderful. I never tire of either!!!
Well said! Agree. Having seen Private Lives in an excellent staged production about 2010, this is a fine film version.

Does anyone know where one could buy a DVD of this 1976 film?
MsPrestissimo on Amazon.co.uk as a region 2 DVD
Can anyone tell me the end song? Thank you in advance :)
A Room with a View, by Noel Coward
David Zakalik Thank you so much, this will be very helpful for my GCSE drama performance :)
I would like to know the same thing. The opening and closing song?
A Room With A View, also by Coward. The other song they used in the background was Poor Little Rich Girl.@@carolynargabright8132
Sorry, I was disappointed. Except for the clever wordplay, the whole thing was nonsense. I thought Noel Coward was better than that.
