It’d be cool if adult swim had little art blocks for upcoming animators trying to make a name. A couple minute clips at most. Similiar to how Nickelodeon had their way of introducing pilots to kids
The concept of a brain and nervous system being expelled from your body is such a disturbing tier of cosmic horror and I genuinely can't believe I've never seen it done before. That being said, it's awesome. Edit: Guys, I didn't say it's never been done before. Just that I personally haven't seen it before, and I consume a lot of horror content.
@@hermes_job_observer144 I'm gonna struggle with this comparison. Especially when SENSOR is right there. There's also a comic by Hideo Yamamoto that features a character's nervous system acting a bit strange. Finally there's probably the only good scene in some trash tv show that's not actually very good, where a character expels their nervous system out their back. Anyway, Ito is definitely in this art style.
The flashes of images are so haunting. People walking hooded in a forest, same people playing music to a bleeding head, a head smiling minicingly above a city/castle, a lamb standing before a sphinx laying in the dark with only its eyes gleeming. Very creepy and well done. I want to know so much more!
The quality of the animation is so good it was almost distracting. Rodrigo has a remarkable grasp of perspective, few animators will fill their storyboards with such challenging shots, but Rodrigo just dives right in. There’s an insane amount of attention paid to the value range, something that’s accentuated by the grayscale beautifully. I urge you to rewatch the video and examine these incredible high-contrast compositions, each one is a masterclass in light and shadow. I hope his pitch for his Playground feature gets picked up!
The mere idea of someone's nerves, brain and eyes, retracting through the narrow channels they inhibit in the body. And then leaving, practically becoming another organism like that is just so horrid. And the amount of detail that was put into the scene of the janitor barfing his entire nervous system made all the more unnerving. 1:37 you can notice his eyes rolling back and exitimg there sockets before going out through the mouth. This whole ordeal reminded me of an episode of adventure time where fin and jake both "wore" eachother to see who was a better armor. Fin wearking jake wasn't that horrific since jake could shapeshift easily. But when jake wore fin, we got a scene of jake sprouting tentacles all through out Fin's body. Which scared me way more then it should. And that haunting memory wad mirrored by this. Incredible.
I mean I’m pretty sure this is an infection type of horror where each time the empty body meets someone they also expel a nervous system so boss is probably on board at that poont
@@CarsonRileyC. I don't think so, she would have those weird spores, I think this is something else I concluded that it's some ancient curse that spreads through that strange audio, causes your nerves to expel out and your husk of a body now a vessel to continue to spread the curse.....but yea it doesn't explain why she is poring blood from spots where it shouldn't so maybe. But also how does the creature from the first connect with this curse like power? I'm confused
Sousa's ability to create the feeling of getting a glimpse of an entire fleshed out world is crazy. The lighting and perspective in this is also super impressive
Well I think it has something to do with those weird images that flashed before his brain came out I noticed a few similarities like one of the pictures depicting a figure with blood coming out of its mouth like the janitor

I am so happy for the animator and artist behind those shorts. I believe he has a lot of potential, and i can't way for more of his works. Great job Rodrigo!!!
EPIC! This has spoilers, so read with caution. I just started watching these episodes, and I love this series. Rodrigo Sousa’s ability to animate fluidly and create unsettling atmospheres is absolutely incredible. I love the world building/implied mythology within this short. The movements of the afflicted woman are very unsettling, and add so much to the experience of watching this. And the concept of a nervous system separated from its body is so cool and creepy to see animated, and it is something I used to think about as a child sometimes. I love how that concept is portrayed here. So far, this short is my favorite. I quite like swimming pools, animation, and fictional horror content, so this is very, very cool to me. Keep up the good work!
This is amazing. Mr. de Sousa you are seriously my main animating inspiration. What you did here is incredible. It's scary, and compelling, and eldritch, and wonderfully designed. In my wildest dreams i want to make art like this. Thank you!
UNBELIEVABLY good! Rodrigo Goulão de Sousa's brand of horror is one of my favourite things. So happy Adult Swim's doing this, and I hope there's more in future
The quality of both the blood dripping onto the floor as well as the body cracking uncannily as it compacts and bends in places it shouldn’t is simply superb. They’re so well mixed yet you can hear both of them if you listen.
Rodrigo de Sousa! And Jérémy Ben Ammar! Wow, I wonder if this is an indication that "Playground" is getting some studio backing or something. Anyway, very cool.
At the end it says "Thanks to Mila Mona" at the bottom. Joel Haver knows by now that 'Mila' is an anagram for "Lima" (which is Lime in Spanish), and Mona means "Moon". In other words, special thanks to "Moon Lime"
Thanks to the extraordinarily skilled animators who have worked so unbelievably hard to achieve such artistic genius, thank you adult swim for existing and funding these projects and thanks to all of the people here supporting this, you are all facilitating the continued creation of art of which actually matters.
God the detail of every shot, I think its CG for the turn arounds, and yet using loos lines… these guys got some talent.
