It doesn't get much better than this.... track turnout replacement, switching action, assembled trains departing from the yard, a couple of coyotes crossing the tracks, and great video photography. This video has it all. Thanks for posting this.
*rocks*....in this case what railroads commonly refer to as ballast is used to reinforce the roadbed for the track and at the same time used for run off when it rains...
I was wondering about that too. But as it goes the crews have to be big enough to get the job done whatever the job size. I'm guessing it can become a boring job on days. and then very demanding others. I don't like shoveling rock as shovels don't dig it.
West colton is also the place where two major railroad lines meet, the sunset route and the bnsf cajon route. Both of those lines meet at crossing just east of of the railroad yard in west colton and the crossing used to be the most congested crossings in the world, or at least until a flyover was built.
This was an awesome video! I am crippled and don't get out much, but these videos make my day! I really enjoyed watcnhing the crew put together that section of switch track. I have always wondered how they lay track, and now I know! I grew up in the late sixties and early seventies. When did they stop using the caboose? Also what have they done with all of the SP engines since UP engines now run the railroad? I've been a railfan since I was a child.
This is on little busy section of track. I looked west colton up on the map it is a big rail yard this is on a little section of it. I noticed that some the big fans on top of the power unit was not running; do they only run when the temperature got to a certain point? thanks for a very outstanding video
Yes, one of the better spots to enjoy UP as so many pass that location on the way to the rest of the country. If i go to cajon then one misses all the equipment going on the sunset route. If Beaumont then Salt lake and central Cali. Yes, that is the location for action.
How the fuck did I end up here? one second looking at Sean Bean and now I've ended up in some 1 hour video of random trains... May as well record that date for future archaeologists.. 22:00 22/05/2016
Just wondering why there is no police harassment here as I see no sidewalks on Pepper. I've been sent packing if I ever stayed longer than 10 minutes. Did you fasten the camera to the guardrail and then watch from the abutment?
what was the longest train in this video i did see some very long freight trains but i got lost trying to count the wagons or cars as they are called in america the video was excellent thank you
waw man :) haven't idea so long trains exist :) this is big stuff for big boys ,how many miles is the logest? :) super stuff and the powercars are huge workhorses ,great power :)

How nice to see ex C44 CNW :) greeting from Poland, from Polish fan of American Rail Roads! :)

That's not a ballast train. The rock in those cars is used to make cement
that work crew is something else...15 guys...3 working...slowly

Excellent. Lots of trains and many engines. Fun to watch crew laying track through most of video too. Entertaining. Thanks for sharing.

Most SP engines were repainted. but theres a few out there!
And also union Pacific has an ace unit painted in heritage southern Pacific colors, up 1996.

When you were looking at Sean Bean, was he dead?
potty mouth,potty mouth.
@@mybestieischloer2401 why would you return me to this cursed land
I am guessing that the yard is being expanded since there are construction vehicles replacing railroad tracks with railroad switches in this video.
Top video

vous ne faites jamais de vidéos depuis la cabine de conduite aux USA? Normal? Merci;
That UP power is looking like SP in the full grime days. Not much pride in ownership lately.
Why don't the cool locos ever lead in California?!?!
Are they putting the track in or tacking it out?
one or the other or both.
