This is the only Brontë novel (aside from Lady Susan) that I haven’t read. So of course I’ve just put the beautiful Vintage Classics edition in my Blackwell’s cart. (I mentioned in a recent video of yours that you’re dangerous for my TBR and yeah.) Your enthusiasm always makes me smile! Looking forward to this one.

Was so excited to watch this ever since you teased it on Patreon! (loving the early access) :) I think a lot of people tend to overlook Anne and it's such a shame. She's fantastic! Your reading of that exchange between Gilbert and his mother, hilarious :)) The Brontes have become so synonymous with Gothic, brooding, dark moor vibes that I often myself forget how funny they can be. On my last reread of Wuthering Heights I actually found myself just full on laughing out loud at some of bits at the beginning with Mr. Lockwood interacting with Heathcliff. As always thank you for the wonderful video! ❤

I absolutely loved the fact that the entire book was full of just wretched and evil people that are selfish and just... dare i say... real!!!! Have the entire collection from these sisters and I love them all!

AMEN! Basically when I stayed up until 5am as a teenager finishing Jane Eyre I asked all the adults what was like it, and all they could say was Wuthering Heights and it was not (at the time) at ALL my cup of tea. If only someone had said Tenant of Wildfell Hall! Agnes Grey! I would have been one extremely happy teenager. There was of course nobody like you to guide me back in ye olde days.

I love ''The Tenant of Wildfell Hall'', it's actually my favorite. There is also a beautiful series, very faithful to the book, with Tara Fitzgerald. I also love that she makes her money as a painter! And that she expresses at some point that she paints for selling, what the public wants to buy, and not quite what she would otherwise paint. I feel very connected with Helen. And I love that she is in trouble because of a youthful mistake, and naiveté, but she is not stupid. Sometimes events are just more than you can avoid being ever so clever and careful. And in the end she also follows her duty, but now having the upper hand. She is pure strength and intelligence.

I loved Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre, but I feel Tenant is more realistic somehow. My favorite is still WH because (as Jeanette Winterson said) it is so feral lol.
Your description of the book's setting and Bronte's dislike of people makes me think of Shirley Jackson, particularly We Have Always Lived in the Castle. The things I've heard before about Anne had already made me think she was the Bronte I'd like best, but this review really makes me eager to read her work.

I've been on tv and film since I was 4 years old...it was called Romper Room and I worked it for 2 years. This is before cable so if someone does TV or commercials everyone knows you everywhere around Boston. The reason I started off with a bang is that I have very blond crazy surfer hair...and I had a deep voice as a wee kid...during story time I stood up to tell the abridged story of Wuthering Heights...and death doesn't separate those you love...and Cathy would come across the moors and knock on Heathcliff's window. Local news picked it up and when I was interviewed I said It's just me and my Nan and I do the show 3 days and then go to Nan's work and afternoon school...I have brothers and sisters that I can't live with because my Nan said, "Well, Max...you came out of your Mum talking like a little Tallulah Bankhead man...and nobody knew what the hell to do." My Nan was brilliant...well read, memorized classic poetry, she was an artist oils, watercolors and also ornamental pieces. We worked on pieces of broken art and she'd explain he philosophy behind kintsugi. Repairing what’s damaged, embracing our imperfections, finding beauty in the broken. She taught me everything. Keep your hair cut above your ears and stand tall and walk tall...but the best shoes, 2 nice blazers and pants...invest, don't buy cheap...because you're not cheap. A watch and a ring, a little aftershave and wear hair pomade to tame your hair for formal events...if you feel nervous and your voice may falter just speak loudly and clearly...louder out the sound of nerves and always wear deodorant. That being said, I don't know why but, The Bronte's....I love them all and I was told the stories as a kid of Wuthering Heights until I started to read...I wish I could go back and ask her how do I get through my mother suddenly dying after a fast violent dementia...and my step sister and brother moved my assets I put her name on with mine...See this is Anne Bronte' and she is lovely, honest and gritty if she need be. I love the Bronte's and Anne is my favorite...I love Charlotte and Jane Eyre but, she edited and suppressed Anne's work. I understand it from a money making machine but, as an author and her sister? As much as I love Charlotte but, she's not as strong a storyteller and she's predictable to her format. There is a great radio drama for Agnes Grey on youtube BBC radio...it's wonderful. I'm glad I found you! And making you read my deranged ramblings...in the USA we are still uptight and that filthy Donald Dump made a mockery of a nation populated by anyone from anywhere.
I remember a tv dramatisation in the late 1960s or very early 1970s. The opening music was the beginning of the final movement of Cesar Frank's 1st Symphony. It introduced me to both the wonderful novel and the music. I love the Tara Fitzgerald version, although the musicsoundtrack gets a bit irritating. Great review.

Part of that is because I’m a very optimistic reader. I find it easy to see the beauty and merit in a lot of art. But yeah, I hated The Whale by Cheon Myeong-kwan. Horrid book. And I hate Haruki Murakami and get a lot of abuse from his fans for it lol
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is my favorite classic, and possibly my favorite book of all time! I gave Jane Eyre four stars, and dnfed Wuthering Heights at 10%. The other two were probably tainted because I read tenant first. And if you liked this I recommend The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton it's not as good but it's still very good
This book is for me, the best of the Brontes. Sorry, never liked Wuthering Heights but of the three sisters Anne is my favourite even with just two books....I know poor Emily only wrote one and Charlotte wrote three. If you want a tv show where you can hate the characters, try "Girls". I had to give up after a while. Do you know Georgette Heyer? A master at describing absurd characters and situations.
Honestly, Anne Brontë hating people is the best advertisement for me.

Yeah Heathcliff is very much a gothic monster, and he isn’t described that way often enough imo
