    The Falcons are not one pass rusher away from winning a Super Bowl. But they damn sure were 1 QB away from a dumpster fire as evidence of the past 2 seasons. So I love the move. Win now, win later. Raheem Morris had two 3rd round picks with the Rams last year that had 9 and 8 sacks respectively. I'm willing to roll with his assessment of these 3 DL players they got in rounds 2-4.

    It's the krazyies that change the world. People are pouring their emotional narratives on our calculated and precise draft selection... listen, just because you draft latu, verse or turner with the 8th pick doesn't mean their going to produce like #8 pick. Penix is our future QB, ww need to groom him properly so when his time arrives, he'll ball out instead of struggling. He'll KNOW the playbook fully. He'll be even more healthy, and he'll have the unquestionable belief from his teammates that he's practiced with. We are young... we have a win now window and a future view that we can confidently take advantage of. The money isn't as strapped as everyone thinks... Terry F knows how to move money around so that everyone is happy. We will see CHEAP Player perform at a high level, and the players that make top dollar will be compensated fairly. We will not be an organization that's scrambling and making desperate trades. We will build a roster that sticks together on and off the field. Especially when penix takes the helm... because essentially, they'll be growing up together.... TIME... PATIENCE... WE'LL BE JUST FINE.

      Even you yourself acknowledge that team unity has been endangered by the pick. We had the opportunity to trade down and acquire more day two options, but egotism won out unfortunately.
      Matthews, McGary, Grady, Onyemata etc, they won’t be growing up with Penix. And very possibly Jessie Bates won’t be around for much of his time here either. The only receiver certain to be a presence is probably London. The cornerstones of this current roster are at the stage in their careers where they win with Kirk or they don’t. TF and RM aren’t leaning into that though.
      If the money isn’t as strapped as everyone thinks, a fact I agree with BTW, why has Fontenot been so restrained in FA?
      If Penix is their “guy”, you don’t sign Cousins at all. You spend that money on the roster.

The Falcons say thanks Kirk now we'll go with Pennix who by the way will at point br 26 with injury history and limited game experience to let him start and win now?? This makes no sense to me.

    Drafting Penix is still a win now move in my mind. As a Falcons fan myself, I'd be tight if Kirk got hurt again this year and then we're sitting there with Taylor Heinicke while we still have to pay Kirk $45M this year to sit on the bench and for the team to sit at home in January.

      As a Falcons fan myself, I‘m really struggling to believe this idea that it’s a win-now move. If that were indeed the case, our free agency activity and other draft picks would have been different. Too many areas remain neglected.
      And how they have approached things with Kirk can only be viewed as highly dysfunctional and insulting. Brings the lot of them into disrepute, Blank, Fontenot, Raheem. The entire NFL knows that we intentionally misled our brand-new starting quarterback and signing; when free agents are deciding which team to choose that isn’t going to be a positive for us. He’s been undermined from the outset, both in the locker room and how we’ve recruited.

    Thank you Dimitroff! As a Falcons fan, I'm just going to say this: our puss rush slightly worries me. But our younger pass rushers showed potential when given the chance. They could all blossom this year. Also, I'm 100% satisfied with the Penix pick, as well as our draft as a whole. Especially because we shouldn't be seeing anywhere near a top 10 pick for the next couple years. We're in win now mode, while also covering our future for the next decade as long as Penix pans out. Which I have no doubt he will. If you want your guy, you take him. Don't take a chance. If you miss out, you're gonna be pissed at yourself. You know it's something crazy that everyone is talking about it🙂

    • @Nicho_Ldn

      1.;What is the evidence for us being in win now mode?
      2. Which young edge rushers are you referring to? Harrison showed a little promise toward the end of the season but Ebiketie remained highly erratic and error prone. With Campbell and Dupree no longer on the roster something like 30 to 40% of our sack production just walked.
      Which is before you get to the lack of attention given to the secondary and WR2. Also a developmental OL if we’d had the pics available.

    • @C_Santiago7
      @C_Santiago7 6 месяцев назад

      @Nicho_Ldn 1) We have a solid roster all around. The ONLY thing we're lacking is a sure fire pass rusher.
      2) Harrison. Ebiketie. Melone may finally get a chance. Ade Ogundeji. All of which are young. Year 3 is where players should make their biggest leaps. Lorenzo Carter is solid. Yes, a couple people walked. But there's still free agents out there. Emmanuel Ogbah for one.
      Edit: we're fine at corner with Terrell, Hughes, and Phillips. There's also some decent FAs left. We're also golden at WR with Mooney as the 2 and Moore as the 3. Could use another big bodied WR, though. We're also good on OL for now.

    • @C_Santiago7
      @C_Santiago7 6 месяцев назад

      @levisingleton4921 Our current roster pre-draft, post-free agency was win now. It just got better. Trice looks like a steal and could possibly be a day 1 starter. They have to have a plan for Ruke to move up and draft him. But yea, it was already an area of strength lol.

    What Dimitroff says makes no sense. "Win now" doesn't justify the Penix pick. The whole reason people are shocked by the pick is that you don't help your team "win now" by picking a player whom you expect to sit for at least two years. It doesn't surprise me that Dimitroff is not working for any NFL team.

      @iarocks44 6 месяцев назад +1

      This has nothing to do with the money Auther Blank has. Yes, he is rich. But the CAP is limited. Your best window is around a rookie QB contract.
      And no, it's not 2 yrs $50M. It's $80M gauraneed now with another $20M if they keep him for 2026 and 2027. So, yea, you can get out after 2 yrs but due to the $50M signing bonus the dead money is $25M. Then youj only have 2 yrs at most to determine if you want to give a 28 y/o 2 yr starter a second contract. If you let him fro to his 5 yr option he pulls a Kirk and forces you to tag him. In fairness, if he turns out to be a stud then it's worth it. But that is a huge if. Penix is a good QB. #2 in the draft? His injury history alone takes out of that, but to each thier own.
      I would have taken Dallas Turner. You desprately need defensive line help to support Kirk COusins by keeping him rested. At 36 and coming off his injury you need to get him whatever help you can.
      Ultimately I would not have signed Kirk C if I knew I wanted a Micheal Penix. You can stil bring in a Jacoby Brissett for way less money and use that CAP to build. Penix can still sit at least one season.
      Time will tell. I live in Atlanta although not a Falcons fan. But I root for them most of the time.

      Your point would be vaild but one problem they did not take the best player. They took a fragile player that has never really played much. 2018, Penix suffered a season-ending ACL tear in October. The dumbest thing said it sports in years is the Falcons saying it will be good if Penix does not play for five years. 2019: Penix, a lefthander, dislocated the SC joint in his non-throwing shoulder in November 2019, ending his season prematurely. The 2020 Penix season ended abruptly when he re-tored his ACL against Maryland. Indiana played only two more games. By the time 2021 rolled around, injuries were starting to take a toll on Penix's mind. He told the Pac-12 Network earlier this year that he dealt with mental health struggles as a result. In the 2021 season, he ended after only five games, with Penix suffering a dislocated joint in his throwing shoulder. At that point, Penix had thrown more interceptions than touchdowns in a season that would see Indiana finish winless in Big Ten play. The first time Pexnix gets hits is about five years from now; he will fold like a cheap lawn chair.

So it's no small wonder that he had some mental health struggles after repeatedly not being able to finish a season. Any athlete would tell you the same. But the good thing is he's already overcome that mental hurdle.
      Penix CLEARLY has the best arm talent in this class. His ball placement is exceptional; throws with power & with touch. His footwork could use some improvement but he's mobile with escapability to prolong plays. He was the 2nd best QB in the draft, but I could be wrong...he may be the best! Then you think the Falcons would have learned a lesson with the Matt Ryan Deshaun Watson fiasco, where Matt Ryan finally had to demand a trade because the Falcons were sneaking around Matt Ryan's back instead of being a man and telling him. Now you have another pissed-off quarterback because you were sneaking around getting another quarterback instead of telling cousins early on. Look, if we can get a QB, we will get one.

    I think if the Falcons had traded back into the bottom of the first round to pick Penix no one would really have thought twice about it. They could have done that and picked Turner or Liatu at 8. Instead they waited until the 3rd round to pick a DE. A big drop off from the top 3 DE's.

    Remember, the Falcons still had an 11th ranked defense in spite of Desmond Ridder and his 19 turnovers. Do you think that stat goes up or down with Cousins? The Falcons are gonna be fine. They have Kirk Cousins in the short term and will win this division NOW which is what Blank and everyone else wants. They have Penix right now if Cousins go down and after he moves on. We solidified the QB spot for the long term. I think Blank saw the last two years of QB play and said “Holy crap! I don’t want us to look like Denver and have 20 QBs since Peyton Manning left!”

You have two RB1s as well and a Def HC who was fired the last time he was in ATL. So good luck with the win now idea. ATL could lose now and lose later which seems about right for the Falcons under Blank. He may be rich but he has no idea how to run a NFL team. His Gm is mid and his new HC could be on the hot seat in a year or two. Hopefully I am wrong but rot comes from within and ATL has been in rot mode since Ryan blew his one SB appearance.
