A very rare live performance of Jane Child and sadly she had a very sore throat as she explained in the previous interview segment. She can still wail with that voice. She did the Tina Turner cover of "We Don't Need Another Hero" after this was televised. She has a very powerful voice and her musicianship and compositional skills are just jaw dropping.
I agree 100%.
I always wanted to know why she didn’t have more success. I’m guessing she didn’t want play the normal games of a female pop star.
@@totigerus Yep. She was the anti-Pop star. She never wanted to play by the rules. She was a real artist in a time where cookie cutter was beginning to rule the day. Had she come out even five years earlier, she likely would have been a bigger deal.
Love her
They modified the song's aesthetic to fit the show as well as lowered the key so Wayne Brady could also sing.
WOW!!!!! She looks the same like she did in 1989!!!!!
This performance was recorded in 2004.
There was no close up here, we don't really know how she looked. Having said that, she looks good to me and it was good to see her performing. She was bringing it even though she was having some trouble with her voice. She's a true musician!
@@ClearOutSamskaras I agree. I just found her! I didn't know who she was? What a great voice!
@@ClearOutSamskaras 2:33 close up. Bitch is fine ain't she!
She looked different in ‘89
Jane was still rocking the braids. Very talented and underrated artist.
I really loved this song when it came out, the video was pretty good too. In my opinion today's music isn't as good as it was back then. The 70s will always be my favorite era of music, because I grew up during the 70s and early 80s. I like a handful of songs from the 90s and beyond.
Jane is super talented and with her great band, rocked this performance! BUT EXTRA PROPS to the drummer who’s groove BROUGHT THIS PERFORMANCE HOME! New Jack Swing vibe to the fullest, wow!! 💪. Long live Jane Child!
🤘🙏✌️
she still looks the same, I loved this song, i was glad to hear it on GTA 5
Francis Castiglione lmao bruhhhhhhhh I sing this and "everything she wants" by George Michael every time it comes on in the game lmao I can't get tired of these two songs !
Every time it comes on the GTA radio, love cruising to it lol.
7 years later and I'm still excited to hear this song on GTA Online... that's how long that damn game has been around 😂
It was on GTA 4
Her hair was 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Always weird
I thought she did great! and she still looks beautiful!
PhizatMatt totally!
Awesome 👍!!
I will forever love this song!!! The synths sounded amazing, as well as Jane's voice. I had no idea that she was married to Cat Gray.
"Dat girl can PLAY!" :-)
Wayne actually has a really nice voice
***** You may be right. But l suspect that she and the band played the song in a lower register to allow him to harmonize with her. Then again, someone up there mentioned her sore throat. They played it here in the key of GM4. The original is in Fm5. I'm sure she still has no problem hitting the high notes and singing in that higher register when healthy.
Goolz96 I'm Wayne Brady bitch!
That Wayne Brady can sing well and don't forget Jane Child.
Jane Child is so original in her style, you can see she is a really genuine person. That's what makes her so beautiful and her music so moving. I just don't understand how it takes a video game out more than twenty years later to resurrect a hit lost in the 90's.
So was so criminaly underated back in the day .its a shame she because she had so much raw talent .
I am so glad to see Jame Child again!
Yeah, Jay Child is great !
She is very beautiful and talented good song.
Wow, this sounds AMAZING...what a funked up, jazzy, pop version that is just incredible.
+Kim Martin Agree completely
They are out of tune. No, not a good performance.
@@cliffbrown1798 yeah, after many years I'm hearing it now. I think I was just happy at the time to see this
@@1980TriumphProbably due to the singers not being able to hear correctly. Poor sound engineering.
@@cliffbrown1798 - could be, honestly hearing it differently after all these years is pretty shocking, I think I was just excited for the performance but there does seem to be a problem. The band is fine but the singing is not so great.
Jane child...if you ever read this..please know you are one of the most talented musicians on this planet. the synth arrangement on "I don't wanna fall in love" is pure genius!! love you..
I totally second that.
@@casperblackcat1975 ❤️❤️❤️
@@records1990 I only heard Don't Wanna Fall In Love for the first time a few weeks ago on an online 80s radio station based In the U.S., All the online 80s stations here In Australia are crap & for the life of me I can't believe that this song was never released here. I've been In the radio Industry for over 30 years & I tell you now If this song was released In Australia, It would have made It Into the top 10 of our charts. I have no doubt about that
Jane, you are an absolute musical genius you play those keyboards the way they should be played & you look absolutely amazing - ❤❤❤❤ you Jane.
@casperblackcat1975 wow!!! Iam shocked it never got play out there!? It was a massive hit out here in the states. Teddy Riley did the remixes for it as well. Iam glad you got a chance to listen to it now. Cheers ❤️
@@records1990 Australia didn't get FM commercial radio until 1980 here's the launch of our first station:
ruclips.net/video/6YXle__nVkI/видео.html
For just over 10 years only Australian capital cities had access to FM commercial radio then during the 90s regional & rural areas started getting FM radio, I live In remote Australia & we didn't get a commercial station until 2015 so It shows you how backwards we are.
Some people just don't age. She does indeed look great, the still looks the same in my book. I totally love this song. Peace✌
I remember being in 7th grade when this song came out. I loved it then and still love it now!
80's Hits
I'm fifty six, a professional guitarist here in Seattle. When this hit MTV was fckng blown away. And it
was so clear from watching her in the video that she was the ruling hand in her own career.
She may have had her ruling hand, but she was her own down fall also. One hit wonder
no she didn't have the greatest voice, even back in the day but she wrote and produced this song which speaks volumes about her talent. most of the greatest producers and writers cant sing that well. this song is cold and one of my favorites from the 80's
Your nuts back in the day her voice was one of the. Greatest. The original and teddy riley version were great. She is truly one of the great new jack artist from back then.
@@vincentphillips2577 back in the day was Aretha Franklin. Glades Knight, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey. Lisa Fisher, Vesta William's, Janet Jackson , Madonna and countless others during the time this song was out. She vocally could not compare to any of these women, but I still loved her music, get real it is what it is. Madonna and Janet didn't have the greatest voices either, but we still loved their music and their performances.
I’m just so grateful no one forgot about her!!!!!🔥🔥🔥💃🏿💃🏿
OMG !!!!!! I LOve this woman and song this reminds me of the good days of partying etc those was the best day of this planet the 80 and 90 and wayne killed it too go jane !!!!!!!!!!
Gotta admit, wasn't expecting Wayne Brady to start singing along
Still a great song even today.
Never get tired of this song, my favorite in life, and so grateful that this rare live Jane performance was captured and shared. She's amazing.
I LOVE HER!
Wow!!!! Thank you, Jane!!
I'm a big fan of Jane both because of her talent compared to all the other artists who only sang words while Jane did everything, and because she is so good looking that I could accept all the unusual, ahead of her time fashion and hairstyles. It's amazing that I thought it was a good touch to put the nose chain on King Xerxes in the movie 300 but I hadn't seen it since she wore it like 20 years earlier. I got the pleasure of being her bus boy around 1992 in Monterey and could barely speak but I managed to stutter how much of a fan I was and she was probably scared but was smiling and nice. About 4 years later I got to be slightly famous myself and meeting her helped me get over my paralyzing shyness. So I'll always be grateful to her for not making me feel beneath her which could've kept me from having enough confidence become a model. Even if I hadn't met her I would've respected her more than all the other artists. I wish she had more success than them too because she deserved it.
At least she can sing without the use of auto-tune and play a real instrument. Can't say the same about most pop artists.
agreed
No, she absolutely can't. This is down about two steps and she's all over the place vocally. She's a great writer, producer, and player but she isn't now and never has been a good singer. Her voice was always purely a studio creation - doubled and tripled to cloak the fact that she's not a singer. Had Autotune existed back then, she'd likely have used it. The tune is absolutely off the chain and she knew how to produce herself so that her voice would sound good.
Nostaljack
"The tune is absolutely off the chain and she knew how to produce herself so that her *voice would sound good.*"
You just contradicted yourself.
Robert Stever I love when people don't read all of a comment. LOL! She is a great producer so she knew how to take her lack of a singing voice and make it sound good. Where is the confusion? I also said "Her voice was always purely a studio creation - doubled and tripled to cloak the fact that she's not a singer".
Nostaljack I read your whole comment.
"She's a great writer, producer, and player but she isn't now and never has been a good singer."
Then you followed up with:
"The tune is absolutely off the chain and she knew how to produce herself so that her voice would sound good."
You are a walking contradiction sir. Does she sound good or bad? According to you it's both.
Jane Child...one of the very few women of that time that actually "put this shit together"
very GREAT SONG of 80,s.....a lot of memories
Was released in Feb 1990. But same century i guess.
It was recorded in 1989 so its technically an 80s song.
This shit is HARD! This is that music you bang when you pullin up on the scene in a drop top or a coupe 😎💨
In this particular performance unfortunately, her singing isn't what it used to be,but back in the day she could definitely blow. The band absolutely kicks A$$.!
the audio levels on her mic were too low
@@jamesa6494 More likely a bad monitor setup if something else could be blamed.
She still looks very beautiful!
wow shes still hot all these years later .... niiiice
this is one of my favorite songs of the great 90s. I did nt know that she plays piano Much respect to Jane and her music talent.
I was given to understand she was a classically trained musician…
She played everything on the record on a Fairlight CMI it was one of the first sampling keyboards
This wassss.....interesting. I feel like I was listening to this song in SD instead of 4k.
she is HoT! Cool Artist! Rad Style!
Hot? not.
1st. I didn't know Wayne had a talk show.
2nd. "I don't want to fall in love" was my jam back in the day.
Still sounds good, I remember when this came out and I pushed someone out of the way just to get out there on the dance floor. First time I heard it was in Tampa
LOL Damn..
lol....lol...lol...lol...i am just imaginin that in my head
Love this song so much! This rendition is super chill. And i thought Wayne did great on this.
Wayne Brady makes bryant gamble look like Malcom x
paul Mooney
She sure can "tickle the ivories"... and she has an awesome singing voice.
This is one of my favorite pop songs ever.
Awesome singing voice 🤨
If they ever do a movie about Jane Child, my vote to play her goes to Juno Temple.
There are many songs which stand the test of time & many of them comes from very talented artists & Jane, you are truly one of them, you play keyboards the way they are meant to be played & you look absolutely wonderful & greetings all the way from Australia.
The drummer! YESS!
THIS WAS THE JAM!!! She had some other good ones off this record too!
This Live version is much better than my CD version!!! ❤
My name is Joe Evett and I am from Boise, Idaho. I was wondering why Jane was not belting this out. I read she was recovering from a sore throat 😔.
I only discovered that Jane did a couple of albums after her 1989 debut (which I have been rolling regularly since late 90's and am bananas about).
Imagine my joy at listening to HERE NOT THERE for first time ever last night. Truly marvelous, amazing album, Jane! Thank you for keeping me company with your music for so long and making me a better person for it. Looking forward to spinning SURGE very soon.
her voice used to be so amazing so earth shattering emotional, ugh now its a shadow of what it once was
What a song what a talent.
I always loved her music, she's got her own unique sound and its great, and the girl knows her way around the ivory!!
LOVE THIS SONG!!!!
What a crappy crowd. This song is jammin' and they're lifeless. Great version. She's fantastic on the piano!
You're right they're fuckin dead.
Matthew Olden
justin beiber people lol
antonne walker Somebody play some Young Thug and get this place jumpin!! Lol I'd be the only one like... -____- ...okay...
Vince R I was in the crowd and my section was hyped. The music was louder than us.
Vince R I wonder if she did this on Arsenio.
Just seeing this..always loved this song…..come on bass player I hear you!
NO1 ALL OVER THE WOULD!!!!!!!!!!!MY FAVORIT SONG QUEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!Pease Come To JAPAN!!!!!!!!!!!
jane child new album 2021 🙏
That was definitely pretty good, she always reminded me of the poor mans Tina Marie. The original music video of this song was one of the best things I ever saw on MTV.
I didn't know that Wayne Brady had a show, as I had only seen him in recent years on Let's Make A Deal. I found this video searching out Jane Child's music video, as I loved this song back in 1990. It sounds a little messed up with her singing just one vocal, as she probably harmonizes with herself on the multitrack studio recording. That must have been so thrilling for her to perform on Brady's show. I write original music, and I'd be honored to be a guest on a show like that and perform my stuff.
Wow! Wayne Brady sounds freakin' amazing!
That was bad ass!!!!
I’m loving it ❤💯❤️ omg I was sooo obsessed with her when she had this tune on MTV
Considering how produced the radio-play version was, I honestly didn't think this live version would be that recognizable. But when Jane started on the grand piano, pounding out those chords flawlessly, and the band joined in, I realized she's the real deal.
OMG she still know how to rocks some braids!! This is one of my favorite tunes from back in the day!!
Tuned in for the Jane Child and stayed for the WAYNE BRADY? What? I somehow did not know this brother could actually SANG
Love Jane child wish she'd make more music
that piccolo snare drum sound though.... :) !!!!
This one of my favorite song, the Band is on Fire !! Love you Jane!!!!!
Wayne Brady could have easily been a pop mega star like Usher if he wanted he had the look and talent he is incredible
That was fire!
Thank you Wayne for bringing her back! Remarkable. You all sound great.
She can really sing. Even with a sore throat.
Wonderful live recording
ohhhh Lawd Wayne Brady sit down let her sing
jane child is a great singer and the song is so amazing.
This crowd id weak
Great song by Jane ...and Wayne did his thing!
shes extremely underrated. one of my fav songs. shes still beautiful too!!!!
She looks good for all the years hat have gone by. I love the song.
+vopio1 She was 22 in 1989, she's 36 there...She's not exactly Betty White for fuck's sake.
Been so long. Love Jane Child
This song would be hard for anyone to sing.. She did great. Wayne has a great voice and it was difficult for him to hit the notes too. Always loved her
Good for him for having her on
Superb. Shocking
Amazing ❤❤❤❤ still on my playlist ❤❤❤❤
I take back ANY negative comments I had for her after watching this.
She still looks absolutely beautiful. Great song and she can still sing and play.
i like this version!!
Well, I was born in 74, but I haven’t listen to her since I was a little girl
Wow....I had no idea Jane Child was so bad ass singing and playing piano like that. My older sister had a copy of Welcome To The Real World on cassette a year before it came out. We were so amazed how soulful and funky her voice was....then we heard she was white, which made it 10 times more amazing. Back then there was only Teena Marie. But in my opinion Teena's voice wasn't as appealing because she had too much vibrato for my taste...kinda like Patty Labelle. Jane's voice was just straight vibe, naturally funky, with range....but the tone of her voice was so dope that she didn't need a wide range. I've been a producer for over 20 years and I can say from experience....she's one of those rare talents.
My boy Charlie sent me a copy of Mr Jones the other day and wrote, "...this girl is top 5 most underrated artist of the 90s!
I wrote back to him that SlapBaK and J. Harris was the the #1 most underrated artist of the 90s...then he found this video with The infamous J. Harris, commenting on Jane
Crazy!
In my opinion Jimi, Prince, JB, Jackson 5, Bob Marley and Jarrah Harris, are the best to do it... Love you brother!!
@@supersonico9364
thats because shes like 54 dumbass
@@supersonico9364 yeah, she was born in like 1967 I think
I seem to remember a similar experience because I would listen to a local AM station that played all soul & R&B (NOT mainstream crossover, LOL). I heard this there first and thought the same thing. Also, her voice reminds me of another similar artist you might like: Tamara & The Seen. Try them, I'll think you'll like them. Very Prince/The Time sounding
Mmmmm. Great fusion pop track!
She still sounds great. Love this song 😊
I love Jane Child.
Dayam! That sounds just as good on the piano!
You are so right, TALENTED and UNDERRATED!! :-)
Pretty good live performance.
Great song and she's a musician what happened 2 her I loved this song
Song went to # 2 (Hot 100) in U.S. on April 14, 21 & 28, 1990 which was kept from # 1 by Tommy Page "I'll Be Your Everything" (1 week) & Sinead O'Connor "Nothing Compares 2 U" (2 weeks).
Biggest respect from St.Petersburg Russia, great performance, thank you guys for great music what you gift for us.
Love this version of her song thanks for your upload
