I would say to start with MHGU to ease up into old gen with styles and arts, then 4U for polished experience, then MHFU to get more old school feel and lastly tri and 3U. Pick do you want more polish and all weapons or the crazy mechanics. I really have not tried bowgun building with 3rd type, but I really like the idea of a medium bowgun. I wish it would return as a sniping focused bowgun with charged shot
Monster Hunter Tri is a very different game than 3U as 3U cut many mechanics from Tri and includes the nerfed monster AI from Portable 3rd. Tri also has online support on console and emulator with less performance issues than 3U.
@@NinjaScarfGamz yeah a good handful of things got cut such as - The day/night cycle - Dark caves - Armour upgrade system (a blend of how MH2 and MHF2 did armour upgrades) - Weapon upgrade system where you could pick a colour that would effect your stats like slots, attack, and affinity - Dedicated online city (Loc Lac my beloved)
Imo MHF1 is the worst gen 1 game to play other than MH1NA&EU as they lack online servers. MH1JP and MHG have a more active player base a proper online hub, event quests, have less bugs, and don't have to deal with MHF1's poor input detection that drops inputs often.

I agree that order would ease people into go further back
MHF2 has multiplayer capabilities just like MHFU and you can always transfer your save from MHF2 to MHFU
