Thanks for this. There is a fourth way. You can create an extra column in the table (or a separate one) and make the value for each field "1". You then create a vertical bar chart, remove all the formatting elements such as axis, labels etc (you might need to reverse the axis order) so you just have the coloured bars and then place that over the relevant part of the legend. Again, pluses and minuses...

For the first trick, in order to get things better if you want some extra flexibility, you can also play with line spacing... But it remains incredibly dumb that Microsoft didn't create dedicated settings yet to adjust legend icons separately from text...

Do disappointed that none of these hacks worked for me. When I changed the size of the font in the legend, it doesn't enlarge the boxes -- only the text. And when I add the series, it does not appear on the map. :(
Cant believe Excel don't have simple methods to do this even after 30 years!
