- Karachi Community Radio presents Pakistan's first computer coded music performance!
Pakistani musicians, Jahanzeb Safdar, Daniyal Ahmed, and Changez Basir, explore the complex relationship between modernity and tradition. Writing successive lines of code using FoxDot in Python, live in front of the audience, Jahanzeb creates a modern soundscape through ambient industrial echoes, loops, and hints of noise. This code built world of sound is atmospherically cemented with Changez Basir’s wobbly and warped bass sounds. As the linear progression of code intensifies, Daniyal interjects with the Bansuri (indian bamboo flute), one of the oldest instruments in the world. The code adds sonic with each line, the flute reacts to this movement its own way, known as Alaap in the indian classical musical tradition. This leads to a moment that sparks a musical improvisation between the twin promises of tradition and modernity.
Performed Live at Momentum Tech Conference 2019, Karachi.
