    On a day when most people would be feeling under pressure or a little agitated, this man shows that old-school stoic face, generous strength instead of mean hostility.

      Yeah but he knew who Norman Gunston was.

    FANTASTIC!! Two absolute champions together. Lee: "I gave you an autograph...you gave me one."I still chortle at his first reaction of spotting the intrepid Norman striding toward him. "Oh my God, it seems like the Pacific isn't wide enough." Also the way he buys into the Logie being a huge thing in the entertainment world. Yes, a class act, and one of the few Americans who genuinely" gets" Norm.

    Lee Marvin used to come to Australia to go fishing so he had a bit of a clue about Australians and was pretty familiar with Norman Gunston. There were others, like Warren Beatty, who had no idea what he was about and just looked gormless. If they had looked a bit closer at the comb-over, the pasty white makeup and the bits of toilet paper covering numerous shaving nicks, they might have realised he was probably not the real deal. Norman Gunston (real name Garry McDonald) was kind of like the first Borat. Probably his funniest is his interview with Sally Struthers (from "All in the Family").

      Gary surely holds the title for first troll interviewer starting in the 70s, Barry Humphries was next as dame Edna but not til the 80s, Sasha was nowhere near the first by the time he got going.

    would have liked to see gunston interview the one and only Duke (John Wayne) or Clint Eastwood. plenty of potential for a good laugh there.

    Now why couldn't Keith Moon have as much class as that ?

    • @darrencottam1146
      @darrencottam1146 4 года назад +6

      I seen an interview where Gary MacDonald say the Keith moon interview was a total send up and was a reaction to the way the press treated the who when they were in Australia .if you watch it again you see its staged.but when it first aired it was quite shocking.
