I looked in the back of my toilet I have had for ten years and it is sparkling clean. What am I doing right? I have never cleaned it.
Just bleach the crap
Out of it
Toilet you kidding we have to add that to the toilet hi no hi no dgnjjuffhjg
@@Just.D This most likely means that the water quality is good and doesn't have some of the impurities that cause this.
😆😆
The way I clean it is put a couple of denture cleaning tablets in the tank, leave overnight and wow, does an amazing job and so simple!!
I'm going to try this! I soak my retainers all day everyday with those tablets.
Try dishwasher packets.
All that will distory the parts in the tank. Don't do that. No dishwasher stuff, no bleach, no soaps, no scents nothing. Even vinegar will damage it if let to sit. And only 2 times a year
@@marikiemarie7622 there is nothing inside a toilet tank that is delicate enough that non-solvent cleaners will harm. Plastic and rubber, isn't affected by cleaners.
Are you one of those "gently clean the floor" people? ☺

I mean, it's super important to have a clean toilet tank. How do people live without it?
@s.o.s. diy repair I use vinegar in canning and for other things also. It is a wonderful product.
🎉😅😅😅😅😅😂😂😂😂
Looks great, but I'll go for plan "B". Cover and forget. Looks even better with the lid on
Seriously 😂😂😂
As you should. The stuff in the tank is pretty much stuck there, has no effect. If you have issues in the bowl....Clean it more often...Duh!
I'd be willing to bet that this woman's toilet is less contaminated by harmful bacteria than her kitchen worksurfaces and cooking implements are.
Especially if she is so preoccupied messing about with her toilet fittings.
What is plan b
Don't use bleach in the toilet when you've got vinegar in the cystern.
You'll release chlorine gas(that bleachy smell)
It turns to hydrochloric acid in your lungs. Not nice.
The first weapon of mass destruction, used on the Somme in WW1.
I did this a while back and it got rid of a nonstop ring that would appear even a couple days after I just cleaned the toilet. BUT and this is a huge but, it absolutely deteriorated the gasket and caused my toilet to leak profusely for like a couple weeks until I had it fixed. I didn’t know it at the time but it was definitely from the vinegar, granted the toilet was about 10 years old but the vinegar gave it that slight nudge and the gasket that holds the main water supply at the bottom of the tank failed and there was nothing I could do to stop it. So if someone tells you that it won’t deteriorate the rubber/gaskets, that’s not true, I would say if it’s a newer toilet then it should be fine, but most of our toilets are 10-15 years old, unless we just moved into a new house. I had all 3 of the toilets in my house rebuilt because they were all due, and the plumber basically said they’re all going to do it eventually might as well take care of them while he was here. He put new pumps, new gaskets, and new bolts, feels like a brand new toilet.
Could be that the vinegar cleaned off some buildup on the gasket that was acting as part of the seal.
exactly, if we were supposed to put household cleaners etc, in the back of the toilet tank , the installation instructions would say so. I have never ever seen any instructions anywhere in my 60 years of living and cleaning, that ever said to do anything with the tank..
Ooh@@thedanyesful
Yeppp. Vinegar can cause damage to rubber gaskets/fittings/rubber anything. I always take the rubber rings out of my faucet nozzles before soaking them in vinegar. Sometimes there's also a tiny rubber ring INSIDE the aerator. So I completely disassemble them and take that out. Because it's so small, it is the most vulnerable.
I've actually gotten sick from soaking them in vinegar without taking the rubber ring out! Eventually those tiny rubber fragments get into your drinking water.
Never have used the vinegar hack in my washing machine for towels or to clean a washing machine due to this. That would potentially be an absolute disaster.
I'm ignorant. Never knew a toilet needed tune ups 😂 great info. My bowl cracked out of blue while sitting on it. Scared the s--t outa me 😂
I've never seen someone get so excited about a toilet 🤣🤣🤣

Lol
True. But, a close 2nd anyone that's ever REALLY needed to use one :D

Good info. My neighbor's cleaning lady gave me another good scoop...the hard water rings in the toilet bowl are quickly removed by rubbing with a pumice stone! My toilet looks new now.
Doesn't that remove the paint? Like an idiot I used a brilliant pad on a $400 toilet. It ruined the paint. Yes, my boyfriend got ripped off on the bathroom redo. I warned him and he didn't listen.
@@mwrice45 What paint, Mary? My toilet is unpainted porcelain.
The toilet paint or the enamel. I used a brillo pad and it took it right off. I had black with no white anymore. It was a TITO toilet. IS lol.
@@mwrice45 Oh my gosh! Bummer on your expensive toilet. My toilet came out shiny and white, looks really nice. And the rust and water stains were pretty bad. But as I noted, it is unpainted porcelain.
Wet pumice stone in the actual toilet bowl works amazingly well for older toilets that have rust stains. I showed someone how to use this method and it made the toilet clean and sparkly.
For septics ,I was told mix white vinegar and baking soda and lemon juice very helpful on system add to toilet will bubble
Citric acid is a great tool for limescale removal. Safe to use in your cistern, kettle, dishwasher, washing machine and even fine to use in food and drink.
🤣 you are having way too much fun!! 🤣
A plumber told me to put a third cup of CLR down the tube that’s to the left of your toilet. That helps unclog those little holes in the bowl and helps the toilet flush better. It helped mine!
Which tube? My toilet needs some help
@@7HEREALDON maybe it depends on the toilet, but on mine there is an actual tube that has some plastic thing in it.

Do you all know there is "cleaning vinegar"? I just recently found out. It's just a little stronger than food grade but every little bit of muscle helps. I use it undiluted to clean. I keep a spray bottle of undiluted cleaning vinegar close to the shower. As soon as I finish my shower, three times a week, I spray the cleaning vinegar right on the water on my glass shower doors and immediately squeegee it off. Perfectly clean doors and I do not use a cloth to clean them now but a couple times a year. Cleaning vinegar also removed a stubborn mineral buildup stain inside the plastic utility sink in the laundry room. Poured some on the stain and walked away. Looks brand new, it's a 19 y/o plastic sink.
Thanks for the information, i have different products to clean my shower door and washroom sink.
I have been doing the same but I noticed the fumes trigger my asthma so now I spray and come back an hour later to clean.. it never affected me before so I guess there has been damage
I'm definitely fixing to try this. Mine looks awful right now. Can't wait to try this!!.. Thanks as always for sharing your amazing tips. Have a blessed evening love ❤️.
My ex and his dad are plumbers, they said NEVER EVER put ANYTHING in the toilet tank, even for a minute
@@emilymulcahy , my husband is also a plumber and he said as long you rinse it out it won't hurt anything and the way she's doing it he said it will not harm anything. But really strong chemicals will destroy all rubber seals. So using small amounts as she is doing will not hurt anything. Just don't do this too often.
Have fun Roberta!
@@AndreaJean , thank you and btw I tried it and I was like Wow 😮. It really does work!!!..Thank you again love.
Good idea 👍🏽 I use to use the scrubbles or Clorox tablet for the tank once every so often it kept the tank clean but since I switched to green cleaning products I stop buying cleaning products with chemicals, the vinegar is perfect I just think I will smell funky 😂 for a second. This is going on my ‘natural cleaning tips’ list. Thanks for the video.
Can't use with a Septic System. 🙄
Drop a dishwasher tablet in the tank before bed. When you get up give a quick scrub with toilet brush. No harm no foul.😁
I use a product called the works and it works really well
Do you put it in the back of the toilet
@@mikewachtler6584 no in the bowl. Let it sit for a while then use the toilet brush to clean and flush
I can't get my actual house cleaned, so cleaning the inside of the toilet tank isnt on the cards😂 But I watched this and love it anyway ❤😂❤
You're probably the only person in modern history who yelled "woo~yeah~honey" at a toilet tank, I mean other than the person who invented the thing.
The inventor was an English plumber named Thomas Crapper. 🪠🚽🧻
My secret for years has been a $2 pumice stone at Wal-Mart! It cleans all porcelain like magic. The toilet, the tank, the sink...it cleans it all. But vinegar works too, just takes longer.
Yes, that's what I use too
He's lying and a troll.
Pumice will scratch all of your ceramic porcelain.
Do not use it. Ever.
I've been using one for years and it's never scratched up the porcelain.
For a past apartment, I used 30% vinegar then 3 % hydrogen peroxide. It cleaned black mold on the tank lid and on the sides of the the tank as if it was never there. I love 30% vinegar. I recently bought 12% peroxide which I’m happy to use.
👍
I'm glad you mentioned. Yes, pouring vinegar directly into your toilet's reservoir (water tank) can potentially damage the rubber seals and gaskets within, as vinegar's acidic nature can cause the rubber to deteriorate, soften, and eventually crack over time.
However, when it is dirty and nasty, do it. But don't do it on a regular basis. There is a product made for cleaning washing machines that doesn't harm rubber or metal parts so I commonly use that instead. But I'll will use 45% vinegar from Amazon cut with 50% water. Use gloves and eye protection - this isn't your 3% vinegar - it can burn.
Binigar is amazing 👌👌👌
Yes!
I'm going to try this! Thanks for sharing 👍
I wonder if she returned her husbands toothbrush back to the holder. 😂😂😂😂

Great! Thank you!
You are welcome!
Alot of Toilet tanks have a small insulation layer inside the tank. so make sure your not destroying that. The water in the tank, is fresh water cleaning it isn't nessesary, but can be done if you feel the need :p
Yeah, like I look inside my toIlet tank every time i use it and say, "Yuk!" Now, someone said pour CLR down the tank tube to clean the holes in the BOWL and let it soak. Yes! That can also help with that bowl "ring," which most likely is a build-up of mineral deposits. And if CLR does not work, get an acidic cleaner for the bowl and a $2.00 scouring stick from Walmart. The best way to "clean" the tank is to scrub it with a good brush and flush out the sediments, but DO NOT put chemicals in the tank!
Roger L
Thank you some folks never think about how corrosive they are to the rubber parts in the tank, no chemicals is why mine stay like new
Vinegar and baking soda works really good. Also in clogged sinks
Thank you. I had no idea. I live in an apartment and clean the toilets once a week and they STILL always get black stuff in the bowl. I’m going to check the tank bc I’m positive it’s due to that.
Hey isn’t that MY toothbrush? lol 😂
Am I the only person who didn’t know that you needed to clean the inside of the toilet tank?!?! I mean I absolutely love this channel for cleaning hacks or ways to simplify and remove weird stuff my kids somehow seem to get on the carpet, those kinds of things. But I’ve always prided myself on keeping a well organized and clean home. There’s not even any dust bunnies (as my Mom would call them lol) under any beds! Andrea Jean if possible will you please post a link to the other toilet bowl cleaning video where you showed how to turn off the water and clean? Thinking I have a big job ahead of me…

When everything is clean and you ran out of options of what to clean next, the inside of the toilet tank can give you a satisfying fix.
I have septic. Will the vinegar mess with that?
For a far more exciting experience, empty an entire box of baking soda in the tank first.

Could you use cleaning vinegar as well?
What's 'cleaning vinegar'?
@@Boogeyman1435 It's a higher concentration & it says in the bottle cleaning vinegar. I learned about it years ago from cleanmyspace on RUclips.
I had no idea, prior to that, there was a difference.
@@emmamccoy8381 I've only discovered it within the last few days after getting some question about a higher volume vinegar. There's even a 28% vinegar available. 'Essence of Vinegar'

So would this be helpful if you use a bidet seat, like Tushy. The water that would be sprayed on you comes from tank or fresh supply?
I usually add a cup or two of baking powder just before adding the vinegar to help clean the toilet.
Probably mean baking soda 👍
skip the scrubbing. I use OXY powder and pour half a cup into the bowl and wait half an hour. You'll see a brand-new toilet bowl after a few flushes. all my toilets start to leak because of the dirty flappers and I just thought of this idea and it worked so wonderfully. So proud of myself.
1:27 .. would my mother-in-laws tooth brush be ok to use.. 🤣
Lol
😂 Idk why I thought you were going to say, "I need to know what does your mom's toilet tank look like?"
What do you think works best, vinegar or citric acid?
I use Boax?
Wow I feel silly! Never thought about cleaning the tank!🤪
I just use elbow grease and a stiff brush and a toothbrush for small areas. I make sure to pick up the rubber flap and scrub the bottom as they get slimy
Mom said " what happened to all my vinegar?"
Mix bicarbonate or as you call it in the USA baking soda with and key do the work for you! Cleans all sorts
The water in the back of the toilet gives me anxiety.😢
😬
Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely give it a try. Thanks Kristi 😊
Leave it over night and it does even better. Once a week is my moto, 1 cup. Sometimes I will add peroxide and baking soda for more scrubbing power. It's great.
Make sure NOT to use vinegar & peroxide together,
as It gives off dangerous fumes..
@@Anamarie157 absolutely true, it is awesome that you researched it. never experienced any adverse reaction to it as it is used in small amount and that solution does not stay too long in the tank (it is a busy toilet :D). My toilet is original in my home which makes it 44 years old.gonna try this
They must be getting ready to host a party. Our toilet always stays clean from the occasional brick of yayo hidden there that begins seeping into the system.
Vinegar does the same for your liver! Just a half teaspoon mixed with water!
Very nice. Looks like she is on city water. For those of us on well, a fair amount get gradual rust stains in the reservoir. Iron Out with a little agitation takes care of it wonderfully.
i have actrally just added more water to it and it will cover the top ring itself... the extra water will dran out when u flush it. thanks for sharing...

I can't believe I missed another Andrea toilet cleaning vid. Hunch YT un-subbed me but I always give you 👍s on simple principle. Try this instead.
Drain the tank completely and leave the seat up. Maybe even blame the hubby for that? Toss the tank lid in the bathtub bottom up beforehand. 2 boxes of baking soda. 2 jugs of pickling vinegar. Close the bathroom door with a folded towel blocking the gap. Let sit overnight.
Bagless Shopvac in the morning and you'll be able to eat off of EVERY surface in that bathroom!!! And probably develop an obsession for fish+chips as well. 👍👍
You have to KNOW I'm sharing this vid with friends. Right after I secretly squirt a restaurant vinegar packet on their toothbrushes after using their john... 😁
Just subscribed!👌🏼
Citric acid actually works great. Not sure if vinegar should be left in tank as it could damage the rubber rings.
After a few flushes the vinegar is gone.
Much easier to buy a new tank. They are easy to fit diy 👍🏻
So which do u prefer the Citric acid or vinegar. I think the Citric acid works better
I put vinager first and after a couple of days tooth paste , it was goid !
Does the Vinegar and other suggested products affect the tank insulation that looks like styrofoam?
Make sure to keep flushing because all of that tank water goes into the bowl.
Maybe baking soda too? Iron soap scrubs take rings out too!
Leave your Moms toilet Alone girl..!! 😂
I looked in the back of my toilet I have had for ten years and it is sparkling clean. What am I doing right? I have never cleaned it.
Same here.
It's the great water. Hard water produces all of this over time.
I think it makes a difference it you are on city water vs. well water.
Before I clean my toilet bowI, I remove all the water. I cut a water bottle in half with a knife and use the bottom part to take some of the water out of the toilet bowl. Then I use an all-purpose sponge( the one that is sold at Lowe's or Home depot) to remove the remaining water. After that, I clean my toilet bowl with a sponge with Comet and dish soap. If that does not clean it well, I use a Brillo pad and finish it with Comet with bleach on a sponge. Also, I use a hard tooth brush with Comet and a drop of dish soap to clean the areas that are difficult to reach.
bleach works with a clogged toilet. dish soap works too. had an issue months ago and never had a problem since then
Good too know about the cleaning vinegar
While I love vinegar, I gotta say I used vitamin c powder in a pinch since I didn't have citric acid on hand, and it almost instantly cleaned the tank without scrubbing! I applied it to a dry tank by dusting it , turned my back for a second and it looked brand new... totally shocked and happy as hell I didn't have to scrub at all !
Which brand of Vitamin C Powder did you use?
@@debrinaalexander2211 Judee ascorbic acid from Amazon but I'm sure any brand will do. I usually buy the least expensive option.
@@cfar6256 Thanks for that. I'm always looking for less expensive ways to keep my toilet cleaned.
If you stop the water, turn off at the bottom, near the wall, may be able to work on the bottom easier
Just turn it off before it refills
Can you use apple cider vinegar if that's all you have
I use a toilet cleaning brush to clean the inside of the tank!!!
Me too. Easy
Your voice is so cute!!! And thank you for the great content
I did this and it worked fine. The dark in the tank is stain after cleaning
If you have a Pentair Water Softener system installed, you'll never have to do this
I WOULD USE A BIGGER BRUSH.
Another product you can use is iron out. Simply flush, add product as it’s filling. You want some of it to get into the toilet itself. Let it soak over night. Doesn’t smell all that great but it works very well.
Looks clean to me.
Mine looks exactly the same.
