john wasn't drunk, maybe stoned, but the mubling in the mic were to let the soundengineer know that he can't hear himself ... the soundengineers name is patrick hutchinson, also kown as hutch. later he worked with qotsa ... in an early qotsa interview with josh, he talked about that horrible gig ... the sound was totally fucked up.
Malte Montana yeah there's no way he'd be that fucked up to where he's slurring his spoken words that bad and be able to sing fine. This sounds way more plausible.
Best Homme solo ever... nothing hes ever done compares to this live solo he just nailed it big time that day.... and Reeder, greatest stoner bassist maybe? Hes a freaking legend...
And greatest looking stoner bassist too!!! Look at the flick of the hair - each band member is on his own trip and how fkn well does that work?!? You wouldn’t pick them as being in same band if you didn’t catch em onstage though
Funny saying this as they have clarified themselves Sabbath was never part of their influences. Kyuss were a hardcore band turned stoner, Sleep on the other side was the spiritual offspring of Sabbath.
I have to say when I first got into Kyuss I didn't like John's voice but after listening to Welcome to Sky Valley: I think he is one badass singer!!! btw. smokin weed has nothin to do with the music even Josh says it doesen't
Never have I seen a performance where everything is so on-point. Amazing vocals give way to amazing guitar work, which is supported by killer drumming and bass.
I love that incoherent dialogue at the beginning of the video by Garica. These guys have always been the dimaonds in the rough, never to be seen again. All hail the Sons of Kyuss.
It takes a special band to be better live than with their studio recording. John Garcia is a legendary rock performer that many outside of this genre never heard of.
@67goldtops well i found this band about a year ago and they actually caught my attention because thy sounded way different than any of the rock or metal bands i was into. so i dont really get why your saying that they are not unique sounding....i understand if you dont like them but they are original sounding.
When people mention God... They are talking about Kyuss playing live. It was a real miracle back in the days... Only the chosen few had the chance to see'em. And now, to celebrate those moments, we roll a fatty and pay an homage to this band.
One of my favorite versions of this song ever, the intro is just epic 😂 leading into stellar vocals and that bass, holy crap, and a girl dancing with a fanny pack ? And Josh is like epitome 90's frat boy LOL, just too much good happening here!
Unlike Electric Wizard and Sleep which I do love, but they are almost Sab clones. Whereas Kyuss on the other hand, brought sum of their own laid back, heavy yet trippy and groovy ingredients to the mix. Which then gave birth to stoned "Desert Rock". The rest is history........
I've no doubt that Garcia is stoned here, but that part at the beginning is due to the sound issues they have through most of this concert. (and at the end you can clearly hear who it was for: 'Hutch' -their sound guy -and QOTSA's as well) They aren't moving around much because they have to use the festivals equipment, and they are all plugged in. (Scott almost trips on his cord at one point) Torrent up the entire concert, and you shall see all for yourselves. I've watched it 100's of times.
'Stoner rock' was term made up by a bunch of guys at Roadrunner records well after Kyuss broke up. Therefore, Kyuss was not stoner rock. If anything, Kyuss was progressed Desert Blues Rock.
When I had this album as a teen, I only liked the songs which mostly featured Drop C notes..now as an adult I love the less conventional hard rock keys of F and others more.
That Solo....Oh my god....My Face, Why its....its gone, it has been melted away from this complete badassness of stoner rock that is coming at me 69 different angles. that solo was insane, oh my god...
hahaha that rambling in the beginning. w/e tho garcia is an amazing singer. just got into this band. none of their songs are disappointing. keep smokin
man, i totally missed this band in 95...too busy tryin to grow up and work, have kids...after the 70's with sabbath,aerosmith.etc...this band - like Sugartooth, Primus kicked friggin ass. Bass player awesome
how can somebody dislike this, it should be so unknown, that when someone finds it, he must be stoned. and when you´re stoned you like Kyuss over everything else :-D
yeah, it's great to see that they quit while they were ahead. they went out, but they went out from the top, rather than waiting until they got stale and left their roots as musicians. While it would have been cool to have them around still, sometimes you just gotta know when to let a good thing go. And besides, if Josh Homme were still in Kyuss, we would never have had Queens of the Stone Age, and we would have missed another amazing thing.
I know! You could say he has advanced and has become more technical...but common, his old Kyuss solos are so sick. I love the intro to Freedom Run...its not technical at all but damn...so smooth.
Besides lightning bolts performance of "dead cowboy" at taicoclub 2014 OR Tools performance of "Sober" at Reading Festival 1993 maybe the greatest live performance of all time!!!
its hard to decide which band to like more between kyuss and queens but iam starting to like queens more they are making more albums and their are getttng better one afetre the other and some songs still have that kyuss grove gald josh started both of these bands long live both of them
There are only two certain things these days on the world... The fucking global Crisis and Kyuss greatness. We can do nothing for the first but we can keep listening to this shit and really enjoy for a while.... And THAT was a badass riff!!
sorry, but i had to say that, BECAUSE: I personally think that's a BIG part as to why they never got as popular as they "should have been"; The albums themselves were KILLER; But their live performances just simply did not do them justice. but having that said, Queens of the Stone Age is DEFINITELY my favorite band of all time, EVER; and Homme is DEFINITELY my favorite single musician; and Kyuss is DEFINITELY in my top 5 favorite bands. I'm definitely a desert kinda guy : P

Fucks sake! I just realised that im watchin this video on a playlist! N that comment i left previously was supposed to be about QOTSA's "The Bronze" live at Bizarre Fest 98!
It's like 700 dollars. The original GP is only really expensive now because it's so rare, it was considered a "junk" guitar in the 80's before Josh Homme came into the picture.
Musicologists will be trying to decrypt that opening monologue like Sanskrit for the rest of time. Beyond legendary.

have Kyuss fans ever found out who the fuck Hutch is? a mystery for ding dong
John Garcia was too drunk to introduce the song, then sings it better than the album version
+fuckk-i-need-a-channel-name You really think alcohol caused that? :D
he was completely off beat for the intro sequence. Prefer the album version myself.
HE was fucking about, he speaks fine inbetween the other songs on the setlist and sings on par.

Kyuss were so good, it hurts.
The silly dancing bint in the background amused me for some reason.
god i love this song...i love how when he tries to speak its just incoherent mumbling but his lyrics are like articulate and pronounced. lmfao
Best Homme solo ever... nothing hes ever done compares to this live solo he just nailed it big time that day.... and Reeder, greatest stoner bassist maybe? Hes a freaking legend...
total legend reeder like
Reeders one of the best, agreed but there’s no comparing to Al Cisneros from Sleep
Still my favourite song with Josh Homme on guitar, full beast mode
And greatest looking stoner bassist too!!! Look at the flick of the hair - each band member is on his own trip and how fkn well does that work?!? You wouldn’t pick them as being in same band if you didn’t catch em onstage though
Totally agree. And 22 yo...madness.
garcia's moustache is epic.

The riff on the second part of the song is one of my favorite riffs of all time
It's like they took everything great about sabbath and threw some Hendrix in there. Fuck this is good!
First time I heard this song, definitely felt that classic Sabbath feel, especially with the bass
Funny saying this as they have clarified themselves Sabbath was never part of their influences. Kyuss were a hardcore band turned stoner, Sleep on the other side was the spiritual offspring of Sabbath.
@@Dr.J.Konopinski I believe both Brant Bjork and Nick Oliveri both said Sabbath influenced them a lot personally
@@Iangarryschair that's true, but it would be relevant if they had written more than ten songs for the band.

Geezer Reeder cant tell em apart....nice salute to Gezzer by Scott in his string strum style
Garcia tried to be wasted but his legendary skills didnt let him be!
Gene Bone he still sounded pretty dam good suited the music perfectly though
