I was ten years old, walking in downtown in my home town in Greece. I exit the ice cream store with my mom and right next to it, there was that small, lousy arcade . I saw this game playing on demo mode and this image was imprinted on my memory. A werewolf fighting another monster. I was too young to allow me to play, so my mother picked me up and we went home. The arcade store closed soon after and I never encountered this game again. I had no idea about the name. 30 years after, I tried various word combinations (beat em up, retro, fighting, monsters, mythical etc) but never succeded in locating it. I remembered the werewolf, but every search led to Altered Beast or Metamorphic Force.... Suddenly, the image came back "beat em up werewolf MINOTAUR" And HERE IT IS!
I played this on the arcade machine at work about 20 odd years ago, I loved it. they should bring this out on console along with a load of old classic arcade games from this time period.
@@slaimramirezmejia4872 Yes he is a demon from Ancient Mesopotamian, but analyzing this demon is not from Mesopotamian because all demons always come from a place that would be from hell, so demons come from hell not from Mesopotamian.
I gotta say this is a disappointing and quite inferior follow up. They should've perfected what they already had. This feels like a different game, only thing they have in common is monsters. You fight to the death too in this allegedly, but I don't see or feel it. The big super fly in the air moves are too cartoonish to carry much weight to them. It just seems like you won the match and their out cold. The music is super cheesy, repetitive and awful in this one too. It also betrays the memory and aesthetic of the original game. What were they thinking?
I played this a lot when it was in the arcade. Looking back, I feel silly for not having paid attention to the on-screen instructions, as I could hardly ever pull of the Super Throws, and never understood why.
I wouldn't mind a remaster of this, or a new fantasy style wrestling game. I know if RumbleSlam ever tried their hand at a video game, I would definitely check it out.
This kind of tournament fighting game, with mobility to up and down on the screen, was common on the early years of the genre. Others like Pit Fighter and WWF Superstars were released during the period. But the style was put aside after Street Fighter 2, and its fixed foregrond, defined the genre's final format.
Minotaur with the worlds very first stylised victory T-bag, and Dragon for the second. Master Chief... eat your heart out. (7:00-7:30) ish. I remember this as a child. I got beat up, down, left, right, A+Start. Right up there with R-Type. Quarter scarfers... Dragon was my favorite but I would have killed to be able to have been good with Minotaur. I was best with Werewolf.
I remember in the arcades being able to hear Hercules scream "You are a bug to me!!" pulling off his super. "Know the authority of my hall!" I the digitized voices weren't bad either. A strange but cool fighter.
Probably cuz of the terrible cheesy music and very bright graphics. This was a weak sequel to Hippodrome. That game was brutal (for its time) and quite dark.
+hanchiman Death Brade is the original name, Mutant fighter is the name of the Us release. Why they change names that are already on english is beyond me.
DieHard300 I suspect that the word "Death" was kind of "violent" so they change to mutant maybe, you see during the early 90's there was alot of "violent media scare", well at least in Europe. So to save little kids from violent influence they think changing the name and titles will make it less violent (idiotic logic, but just bear with me). One famous example of title change is Ninja Turtles in Europe is called Hero Turtles, because "Ninja sound violent".
***** True. Just say that here in Spain the Ninja Turtles were kept as Ninja T.. I dont know on what part of Europe that was changed, probably Germany that is the most censored country on Eu. or maybe on Uk they were pretty prone to censor things on the 90's.
DieHard300 From what I gathered, mostly "Northern Europe", I live in Sweden. It went so bad in Sweden that they really censored Disney cartoon with Goofy and Tom and Jerry at the beginning of the early 90's (it was also due to teen gang violence for a period) seriously I shit you not. Also most Northern Europe didn't even have Japanese animation, I heard that most South of Europe (including France), you already watched Saint Seiya and Dragon Ball even back in the 90's.
***** Damn!, didnt know north Europe was so content repressive, I always thought that Germany ans Uk were the worst on that department. I was lucky that in Spain videogames and anime were rarely censored, most of the time we had even more content than the Us and France versions.
I finished this game as a kid at the local vogue. Cost my parents a whole bunch of 5 francs coins 😀. It took me a while to finally find you, games. After all this years, you still look very weird.
I don't know which is more bizarre. The way they basically stole the hydra's death and SFX from Jason and the Argonauts, or the fact that the arena has the British Coat of arms painted on the floor.
Oh I played this once and most distinctly remember being beaten by the Hydra. I wondered for at least two decades what he said since I got the impression each different head was saying a word. I remember being annoyed I couldn't pick the Hydra because it made me think of King Ghidorah.
"La arena estaba de bote en bote la gente loca de la emocion, en el ring luchaban los cuatro mutans idolos de la aficion el Fighter,Minotaur, golem y werewolf" XD
So this must have been some kinda spiritual successor to hippodrome even down to the fonts and menus. Data east had the vocal samples locked down back in the day
not just that... this was the FIRST vs. fighting game to introduce the possibility of choosing the same character of your opponent, different-colored (in 2p vs. mode only).
Ahh man, I remember this from an arcade years ago but couldn't remember the title for the life of me...thanks for sharing

This game is a sequel to 1989 Hippodrome made by the same company, Data East.

I need to play this in the collection of Johhny's Turbo Arcade's!!
Clásic game of Data East!!!
Aaaah good ol' Data East. Not the best at making good games, but you can always count on them to create original stuff!
They ARE the best at making GOOD games. Better than CRAPCOM and all of the other fucking famous companies!
Capcom during their CPS1/2 era pretty much only made really great games
I smell unsubstantiated bias in one of these comments...
Data East = Kings
Que recuerdos 😉
busque este juego durante añoooos gracias
Did you have to pick the most boring character to fight as?
maybe It's because he appears to be the protagonist.
lol exactly. generic guile wannabe without a name.
I think he is suppose to be Zeus from World Heroes or at least like him LOL.
@@GameMaster-sv9uw I think he looks like Zeus because both characters are clearly inspired from Hokuto no Ken characters (Raoh, Souther, and pals).
He picked The FIghter since it's the character we can relate the most to.
Excellent

Werewolf

In the Japanese version, they had actual names
Jogava muito isso aqui no Brasil 🇧🇷😉
Can someone tell me the quotes of all characters please ??? Especially Dopple-ganger

I never pick the Fighter or the Amazoness. Their are the most boring characters in this game
This is almost like a gloriously bad 80s film
That's what made the 1980's AWESOME. NEVER DISS THE 1980s.
The dialogue in this game is terrible.
