I was playing this game for so long that I was able to go through any map with almost my eyes closed. Good old days. Wish I could go back in time.

The childhood game I love the most! It's super fun once you get used to it.
I couldn't have said it any better myself. I got this game and Hot pursuit at the same time during a x mas. At first I played 3 more but when I started learning how the car tuning and earning money was in High stakes. I quickly moved on and grinded that game out a lot!
20 years later they should be remake for this game

I love everything of this masterpiece. Can turn lights on and off, directionals, horn, change radio station, cars get damaged (broken windshield, spoiler, etc) and environment too.

You could charge your licence plates too!! Loved everything about this game, and you could race your friends and wager your car

The true Need for Speed. Shame everyone is now used to ricing cars since 2003 and forgot the real Need for Speed from 1994-2002.
And Hot Pursuit 2010? Don't have the same thing from old NFS?

In my opinion, high stakes is the best out of the PS1 need for speed games. Need for speed III hot pursuit comes in at a close second behind it for me as much as I love that game too.
I feel the same way. I can still have a great time with both NFS 3 Hot Pursuit and NFS 4 High Stakes
Looks amazing for a ps1 game, despite being emulated on hi res and with texture filtering, this looked very impressive for a 33,8 mhz cpu and 2 mb of ram machine
This NFS was sooo ahead of it's time. It's incredible how the engine sound and the maneuverability of each car matched the reality, all of them having it's own. Take the F50 as an example. If you hear her engine's sound, it is pretty much the same you listen in a video with the real car. And as we can see in ths gameplay, it oversteers a lot in fast corners hahaha that's why, even loving the F50, I always picked the 911 turbo for this tournament category - it was way easier to handle!
Every time I played through the game, I would pick one specific card from each category of races and race through with just those cars. Then once I started over, I would pick the ones next in line.
So I’d start with the Mercedes SLK, then for the next ones, I’d choose Camaro and etc.
Then once I played again after beating it, I would pick the BMW Z23 and then pick the Firebird.
It gave me replayability.
14:49 this song man, i remember racing the last races against the mclaren and clk gtr. This song came on, i was 6 years old man. Awesome times
The one NFS that introduces us to pure true cop hell. I love it! Shame you got arrested in the end; i was rooting that you'd win.

I think most of us remember fondly these earlier nfs games, is because of the tracks themselves, are unique, every damn track is a diff. world in itself. U go race in todays nfs games and what u have a big world yes, great, but its the same place still. I dont know if u know what i mean, but as ive explained every new track is as if a new world and it was fun to get a new track for the first time. Now id like something like this came back, doesnt matter if its need of speed or something diff. Open world driving brings something like that, new place new track new feel, something new, but still its not the same. These tracks were built u can say handcrafted, with detail in mind, if u have an open world, theres no point in too much detail in one place, u need to do it in all of them, and i dont think its doable to that extent. I dont know thats just how feel about it. Great feeling when u open a new track to race on. Gone from todays nfs.
I remember being blown away by the see-through windows of the cars in this game
In this game, you could actually hide from the cops and it was great. I was caught speeding, got a good distance and pulled off the road and drove under a bridge and the cops drove right by. Later stated they lost me.
Then I followed the laws and was passing a cop headed the other direction and he was unaware. Until, he seen my plate and stated he just found the fleeing vehicle and the chase was back on..lol

That only in the PC version, since in PS1 the cops can arrest you even if you didnt do anything illegal and they have a much more longer radius for catching you.

This is the only game I bought on PC instead of console back then and I remember playing it for hours with modded General Lee and KITT. LOVED THIS GAME! When electronic arts was the best around!

I hands down wholesomely loved this game! Sure it wasn't the greatest racing game out there but for me it was. I spent countless hours playing the fuck out of it. Sometimes just listening to the music. Speaking of which, Roll the dice was my absolute favorite track! I loved all the cars even the two custom vehicles, the big hot rod looking one with the "Oh yea!" horn too. I believe this was even on PC, didnt have a good pc back then but i sure wanted it on pc. Im glad i played this game on Ps1 and lost countless hours i'll happily never get back. Ty early EA, you were awesome then!

After i tired of a soundtrack, i played this along with DJ Convention - Winter Edition CD2 :) Back to Earth was on repeat. Where are those times?!? :) Every car had a 3D cockpit and interior inside with lights! That was insane!
