Very useful video, THANKS! I've just bought a ride with Alfine 11, I might get a bigger cog as the current one is a bit to small for loaded riding up hills off road, so now I can change it with confidence! CHURZ

What a mess, I wonder how the inside of the how the inside of the hub looks like. When was the last time you did maintenance on it (if at all)?
I'm new at this Alfine 8, I heard a lot of good things about it so I bought a used Nexus 7 and Alfine 8 that's almost new for a good price and I love em. My question is why did you change the chainring and the cog for what seem to be a different size or is it ?
You can get lots of sizes to suit the terrain your going through, in my case I simply had worn the old ones out. Yes they are lovely gear hubs I've had no problems with them in 5 years
Nice video. I liked the Mozart background. I see somebody further down didn't like it. You cannot please everybody I suppose. I like your video. My favourite is still the East West one. Is that the same Alfina Hub you have always had. Peace.

What size of chain U use? I have alfine11, but rear sprocket has some kind of guard, and shimano recommended chains for 9-gears sprocket.
Yes mine has a guard also, not had any issues with it though
I have 3X9 Shimano Deore 22-32-42t and Sram PG-971 11-34t Casstte and Sram PC-971 Chain
yepp deore are great gears, i had deore on my ridgeback panorama few years back. the chain ive got on this is a kmc chain which is similar to scram in the fact of a quick link where as my other bike with a shimano chain has a solid pin so not very good for maintainance, this has a 20/39 ratio but with the hub its fine up hills and can cruise at 18-20mph if i choose

Any reason not to choose alfine double chainguard version?
Just a bit harder to get chain on or off but no big issues. It mainly only for little bit of protection

Yes it's a great option especially if you get a new chain that's too long, then if it snaps you can repair easily. All the best
It's depends of bike frame. If You have vertical dropouts, then u have to use chain tensioner, because always u need to get good tension on chain
Yes it always hwlps
bit late to the show, but I use an old rear mech as a chain tensioner. I used a few centimeters of the shifter end of an old cable to get the alignment right

nope it is an alfine 8 speed hub which i have found to be all i personally need for fully loaded touring
Are the gears internal then?
yes dude not had maintainance for 3 years
really nice if you look after them and dont power through whilst changing gear
