    I installed the Journey Tek 3 transducer pickup (base model) in a Larrivee OM-1 (no electronics) yesterday and I could not believe how beautiful it sounded. Way more natural than my nice Taylor with its ES2 (Taylor standard) system.
    This will be my goto guitar solution when I play acoustic in our church. I'm thankful to have found this simple, yet very effective, gorgeous sounding pickup system.

      Interesting. Did you mean the Anthem, or what were you comparing with? I‘m trying to decide between an Anthem and the Journeyman featured here (maybe with their extra soundhole mic module added on for a bit more natural sparkle).

    THANK YOU!!! This is the best audio demo I've heard yet. It's been 5 yrs since this video posted, and I am 100% SOLD on this amazing pickup system! The price has gone up, but it's still only $50 ( $49.99 ) and the K&K system has just gone up to $150........so the Journey system is only 1/3rd the price of the K&K!!! I have 4 amazing Hsienmo acoustic guitars from their custom shop, and will definitely be installing this Journey system in all 4 of them. That's $200 vs SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS...........bye bye K&K.

    • @franknordbergno
      @franknordbergno 3 месяца назад

      Yes, I'll probably switch to this from now on too. I do feel a little bit bad about buying copycat equipment though, K&K did spend quite a lot of time and effort developing this type of pickup after all. Still, the price difference is too tempting and besides, K&K used to be as affordable as this too. Maybe they shouldn't have hiked up their prices.

    • @howabouthetruth2157
      @howabouthetruth2157 3 месяца назад

      @@franknordbergno That's exactly my point: I had every intention of buying & installing the K&K Pure Mini in all 4 of my acoustic guitars when the K&K was $100........yet practically overnight, they jacked the price FIFTY PERCENT for no good reason. Now they're $150. After posting my original comment last month, I have since installed the Journey Tek EP001K in all 4 of mine, and they sound glorious through my Boss Acoustic Singer Pro amp. ( I wish they had these pickups & amps back when I was really gigging hard all over east/central Florida years ago. I eventually grew tired of it and "retired" from the club scene......but I've always missed the music, so now I'm back at it again. We need local live stage performances more than ever before. Cheers. )

      @@howabouthetruth2157 Hi mate! When you installed the journey instruments pickup, do you happen to have a Hsienmo S style body shape? I am worried that the transducer is a little too big for the birdge plate.

    • @howabouthetruth2157
      @howabouthetruth2157 Месяц назад +1

      @@jeremyjensonchoong4534 You bring up a great point as a question Jeremy, and I owe everyone an apology of sorts when I stated "I installed the Journey Tek in all 4 of my Hsienmo acoustic's". I had actually bought 4 of the Journey Tek's at the same time, for all 4 of my Hsienmo's, and I installed each, one day at a time. When I posted my last comment/response here, I still lacked installing the Journey Tek in my 4th Hsienmo, a medium jumbo WITH cutaway. When I got around to the installation for this particular model, the 3 transducers would NOT fit on the bridge plate. For some reason, on this particular medium jumbo model with cutaway, Hsienmo "reversed the bridge plate", making the wider portion to THE REAR of the bridge pins. My other Hsienmo medium jumbo WITHOUT the cutaway didn't have this problem, nor did my other 2 remaining Hsienmo models ( a D45 clone and Grand Concert with cutaway. ) So the transducers fit just fine on the bridge plate in 3 of my 4 Hsienmo models. These transducers are about the size of an American nickel, and perhaps a tad larger. Take a coin about the same size & see if it fits in your S model. If it does, or at least 80% of it fits, you'll be fine. Because if close to 80% of the surface area of each transducer still fits on your bridge plate, that will be plenty of contact area to get a good signal transfer. I need to contact Journey Tek to find out if I can install these transducers on the rear side of the bridge plate and still get a good tone. I wouldn't mind if I had to adjust the EQ on my Boss Acoustic Pro Singer amp. ( Acoustic guitarist's should be adjusting the EQ section on their amps for various guitars anyway, like I do, as no single acoustic sounds like another. ) This is a topic that none of the youtubers posting videos about the Journey Tek are mentioning: MAKING SURE YOUR BRIDGE PLATE CAN ACCOMMODATE THESE FAIRLY LARGE TRANSDUCERS BEFORE BUYING EITHER THE JOURNEY TEK OR THE K&K PICKUP SYSTEM. Thanks Jeremy, for posting this very important question!!!

    I purchased two higher-end Journey pickups: one with 3 sensors for an acoustic guitar and another with 4 sensors for a nylon-string guitar. I was unable to reproduce the quality sound I expected. While both guitars sounded more natural and had no "quack," they were boomy and lacked definition, depth, and brightness When amplified for a large stage, the sound was not good. Ended up replacing both with another brand.

    Just had it installed on my classical guitar, it's incredible, of course it's not perfectly natural, no preamp is 100% the same as the guitar, but the way it sounds is astonishing, perfectly gets the sound of the body but doesn't have the annoying sensibility of other pickups when you touch the strings, with fishman, k&k and lr baggs I never had the same amount of comfort and all I had to do to the guitar was a hole in the back. Don't even get me started on the price cause it's mad for the product. 10/10

    Two years later....and this is the first time I ever heard (of) this pickup. Truly impressive! Tried (and hated) the K&K pure mini (as part of the „Trinity“ pickup including a mic). Could never get it to sound lively enough - far too mushy and warm and bassy. So I dismissed all similar pickups. You might have rekindled my interest in such pickups. Also worth trying: The Schatten HFN passive (or perhaps active). Great pickup! Just picks up the squeaky noises when sliding around the neck too much for my liking. Otherwise very warm, full and also brilliant without being harsh. As for piezos, I still get good sound out of my Martin D-35 with an AER 15 plus (piezo plus internal mic down at the jackpin) - probably similar to the LR Baggs Anthem in terms of overall sound. But the mic can‘t be mixed in much without getting feedback, leaving one with more-or-less just a piezo in some cases. So I‘m keen on trying the transducers you recommended.

    K&K and JJB both have those transducer disc pickups and they sound good. Prone to feedback especially without a preamp or any volume control. Maybe Journey instruments figured out how to get around that? I personally have thought that a peizo disc combined with a UST or magnetic pickup would have the best sound except for maybe a microphone piezo combination.

    Hi Lewin, I wonder if you could answer this, it would help me greatly. I'm a longtime fan of your channel. In fact I've watched your videos even before I had access to a mac computer with garageband. I had known this wonderful program through a friend of mine. Anyway, to make a long story short. Recently I gained access to a mac pc which belongs to my wife. Its a 2012 model which had been in a box for years. I started to use the garageband that was installed in it, which was an older version, the one where the guitar amps appear on the right side and you can choose all those little virtual pedals. I liked the sounds I was getting, it was super easy to use. Then out of nowhere it started to have a bug - it wouldnt recognize my guitar and was creating this weird robotic feedback. There was nothing wrong with my signal path, I checked everything, it was just the software that decided to freak out and make me sad. I watched one of your videos in which you say that a simple solution is just to uninstall garageband and install it again. Thats what I did. But in the app store there was only a more recent version of GB, I think its GB 10. Today I started to use it, and I didnt like it for two reasons. First, all the amp simulations seem to have these effects by default. I cant just choose an amp model without an effect and just make my sound. It also doesnt have the virtual stompboxes. Second, now I am getting an annoying latency issue. Its minimal, but there is a delay between my attack and the sound that comes out. Is there a way to download the older version which I liked better? If yes, what version of GB is that, the one circa 2012?

      Rafael Zengo Hey there! That’s too bad to hear that you are having that problem.
      Yes, in that video I was specifically addressing GarageBand 10. However, you can turn off any of the petals in the amp simulators. You just need to go to the paddleboard option and turn them off. You can also just drag them off of the board to delete them from the signal path.
      The only way that I know of to get the older version of GarageBand is to try and find and I life DVD. Thank you for watching for all these years I hope this helps!

      Price is a big difference! Plus I think the Journey Pickup has better low end and a more natural sound.

  • @stevenotice2918

    It sounds great to my ear, no tell-tale piezo quack like the Godin. But it’s still a piezo, so how do they do that? It looks like the K&K which, I believe, is also a piezo. Any chance of comparing it to the K&K? I have a Taylor with their Expression II, and a D28 in which I installed an LR Baggs Anthem Stage Pro, which has both a piezo and a mic. Neither system sounds as natural as the Journey as far as I can tell from your video. There is also a Fishman which has a pickup bar across the soundhole plus a condenser mic on a flexible arm inside the body - ever tried that combination?

    • @GaragebandandBeyond
      @GaragebandandBeyond  5 лет назад

      I tried to borrow a guitar with a K&K in it, but didn't have any luck.
      As for the Fishman, I have tried that, it's ok, but small mics are so tricky with feedback. As far as a small contact pickup, this is my new favorite!

    Hey lewin. I just got myself a journey pickup for my small body acoustic. I will likely buy another for my full size seagull dread. Question is though, how did you find the installation. My tech found the lead to be a little on be short side. Did you find this too?

    • @GaragebandandBeyond
      @GaragebandandBeyond  5 лет назад +1

      It was easy and I had plenty of cable to work with. I'm surprised it was short for a small body acoustic!

    • @mrcaseyprimus
      @mrcaseyprimus 5 лет назад

      GaragebandandBeyond my tech who has installed tons of K&K mounts them with the cables facing the sound hole so that they don’t get in the way of the bridge pins. Did you install it the opposite from that?

    • @GaragebandandBeyond
      @GaragebandandBeyond  5 лет назад

      Casey Primus No,… I went from the end pin and then mounted the pick ups under the top and behind the bridge. So there’s really no way that those cables could get in the way of the pins

  • @davidpatrick1813

    Godin brought forward the higher strings more brightly... and the low end on the other was okay. I'll have to see how it goes... I saw someone else say it was his favorite but my ear heard(s) different things. Godin is much fuller and brighter. I wonder what a mic would do in the comparison .. best is live guitar with my ear...

      I just checked out their site and found you can add on a soundhole mic with 4 control dials (pickup balance between piezos and mic, bass, treble, volume), and that the bass and treble controls apparently only affect the piezo, not the mic. So maybe that would give us the control we want?

    • @andrewgarvin2233
      @andrewgarvin2233 4 года назад

      I'm worried mine would feedback big time. It sure did in my garage. Maybe a sound hole blocker, or use of a personal Amp etc. Pickups do sound good though.

  • @AlecJace
    @AlecJace 5 лет назад

    My Faith is pretty true to its tone when plugged in. Maybe it’s the amp.
    I still mic acoustics when playing live, unless I’m playing in a hardcore setting, where it doesn’t matter.
    I won’t deny it sounds good, but the best? No, sir. I deny that claim.

      As far as contact pickups are concerned this is my new favorite for sure. Of course there are better ways to get an acoustic sound, like using a mic, but specifically for a contact pickup this thing is amazing. And it's $30 !!

    UHHH.....??? What link...?? BTW: It is kind of a "apples & oranges" kinda thing when you talk about under saddle piezos and contact pups.... That bein' said, I just wish there was the aforementioned link...... ( My first thought when I started watching, was, "have u tried "K&K"? Then, you covered that (( not to mention they cost way more...! )), then, my next thought was "Highlander" (( the real "high-priced spread! ))..... I've tried Googlin' "Journey Instruments Pickups" and, so far nothin's come up..... ! LINK?? )))
