That sound is the "Park motor". It turns a cam bar that releases the selector drive which is spring loaded to return to the park position. This happens whenever you switch the vehicle off and remove the key or if the systems senses an at rest fault. It is also a failsafe for if the selector motor or other components don't engage the correct gear and therefore park. The selector motor can pick up the selector drive again, working against the spring as it alwas does, to select gears.
@@AliHaider-hl6db In the video above, the sound is the "park motor". It is supposed to do that and is not a fault in itself. They are both quite noisy. If the ISM doesn't work, just get a replacement or remanufactured one. There is not a whole lot you can repair in them. The mechanisms are quite robust and if they are broken, they are broken properly. Mine had communications errors. I disassembled it and all the motors and mechanisms worked fine (albeit noisier than the replacement one). There is an extensive logic board in the ISM and that seemed to succumb to the heat of the exhaust system. Too complicated, integrated and proprietary to fault find the board. As an aside, to be kinder to this mechanism (ISM), when parking, always use the parking brake, shift to neutral and then to park. If you pull up and load the car up on the transmission parking pawl (not using handbrake as described) the ISM has to use its little motors to shift out of park under load. This is a habit of a lifetime (only using park gear to park a car) that I had to change after working out how the ISM operates.
I had same problem. Every time you lock the car, you would hear exact same noise pattern . It sounded like it's trying to move to a position where it is already @.. I figured it was trying to park itself when it was already in park. Because car dash said car is not in park, but the car wouldn't move and gear selector arrow was at park . Mechanically it was in park but electronically was in drive or reverse. I reset codes 3 times didn't help and finally reset and removed battery, after reset it came back to being able to shift to all gears. I did actuation , gear selection test with $1500 computer and that fixed the issue. My case sounded like there's communication problem between ism and actual ecu.So I thought I might have intermittent electrical wire problems .
Hello, my module has the same problem. Could you please explain how you got it to reset? Is there any specific procedure? I have a simple obd II reader (carsoft) which cant't reset the code.
Brother, could you explain how you did it? I have a car that had an accident, dash indicator shows D and can’t learn ISM I tried 3 different ones all of them will not work
stupid mercedes benz. four years later, in 2020, people around the world are still having their vacations disrupted, their life inconvenienced, and precious time wasted, all because of a not so intelligent ism.

What is the solution in this case ?

its not a crime to switch to some asian brand you know. dont
condemn
LOADS of cars use a DBW (drive by wire) system and thus use the very same Continental made ISM.
Linkage has it's advantages for sure.
do you know anyone who can repair one of those
Hi!!!! I have a quick question to remove the Ism from gl320 2009 what I need to do. And if I need to disconnect the battery.
Thank you so much!!!!
safer you do so, coz the beeping sound from the dash may run battery down
Any body knows if I have to diconect the battery before take the ism?
What cause the problem?
many time i have same problems of ism s350 2007 model cal very sad that the Mercedes are all problems to drive 😂
how i m read ism
how to open ism
