it’s actually so she doesn’t scream into the mic, is called mic technique. If she doesn’t then it could make the mic make a ringing sound, but i could why you think she scared :)
Cod3Nation it seems like she is doing it only for the very high notes like at 9:53, the other notes weren’t as high as that note so she didn’t feel the need to move the mic away.

Usually you pull the mic straight away to regulate the volume, but she pulls it completely away from her mouth to first check if she's hitting the note and when she realizes "OK, it's fine" she puts it slowly back. But also you can always hear when she's getting to the high parts that her voice sounds a bit tense and she falls back into bad vocal habits. She once said it herself in an interview after the Oscars performance (which was sadly not that good)
The thing is she doesn’t seem to have a head voice that she feels she can rely on. Singing those high notes in chest voice is very tough. It’s great in the film - the fact she’s belting those notes in chest voice is a large part of what makes her sound so impressive, and she can record it until she gets it right. But live, if she could just shift up slightly to head voice she could hit these notes with confidence. It seems she cannot whilst still making a sound she is happy with. She is a great live singer, but it’s fair to say that her songs in Frozen have not been written in her comfort zone for live performance. That’s honestly fine, the fact is that her recorded performances - and particularly on this song of course - are legendary.
