One thing I never understood in Fallout 4 is why the energy pistols did more damage than their rifle varients when you have all of their respective perks.

nothing about that game makes sense...
all full auto does piss damage when firing speed isn;t what harms damage, it's accuracy
i shit you not, if you take a MP5 put it on single fire it's accurate and does really good damage, put it on full auto and steady it, you can control it, do burst fire and it's still the exact same damage as semi auto, whoever programmed that is a moron
guns were markedly better in F3 and some were full auto and did tremendous damage! again whoever programmed gun damage/stats in F4 was asleep at the wheel
i could rant all day but this will be my repot lol

Because the pistol variants are basically rifle variants. The crafting system in Fallout 4 allows certain weapons to benefit from both rifle perks and pistol perks simply by being stockless. Just like how explosive perks benefit certain special firearms. If you think about it energy weapons were meant to be "future" prewar tech that the BoS feels is too powerful for mankind to wield.
The issue is more due to perk stacking than anything. If you think that's bad I've done melee builds that basically let you one shot behemoths with stock perks and no mods.

I think the CO2 looking thing on the bottom of the 10mm pistol is a compensator weight that is supposed to "help" the upwards recoil of it. If you notice, it looks as if it can be moved back and forth for shooters that prefer a different center of gravity. since 10mm is a hard recoiling caliber and would also explain how it can be taken of for the lazer mod in NV.

I’d say it’s more likely the N99 is a gas automatic. If that’s the case then the cylinder is probably the gas piston system that cycles the weapon. Why it is there doesn’t make a lot of sense but then a lot of the weapons designs in fallout are a bit janky.

For those who don't know, "Plinking" is a type of target shooting involving shooting at things like metal cans or beer bottles (think Sunny Smiles' tutorial in NV), and the name comes from the sound of the metal being hit by the bullet. .22LR is a common ammo choice for plinking, as well as other pistol calibers, alongside airsoft and air rifles.

A note about That Gun/5.56 Pistol: Because its based on the Blade Runner blaster, it should be noted that the Blade Runner blaster aka M2019 Detective Special aka Pflager-Katsumata D, is itself a Hollywood armorer modified Steyr-Mannlicher .222 Model SL rifle that was made to look like a revolver for the movie, which is why the origins of the 5.56 Pistol in Fallout is a story of a rifle that needed to be made into a pistol, it is also why, in-game, the gun uses 5.56/.223 ammo because its the closest in-game ammo resembling the proprietary .222 Steyr-Mannlicher cartridge

The 10mm pistol in Fallout 3 has a Inertia Piston at the very bottom, basically a heavy piece of metal with a spring that soaks recoil, in the real world the FK BRNO in 7.5mm has it under the barrel and not exposed and the Ar15 as it but for slowing down the bolt carrier but some products can reduce the recoil with a stiffer spring or heavy buffer

    • @KeterMalkuth
      @KeterMalkuth 4 месяца назад +3

The AR-15 buffer acts more like a deadblow hammer than anything. On the rearward travel the buffer adds more mass to reduce the cyclic speed, as you said, and on the return stroke it provides several small impacts to the bolt carrier to prevent it from bouncing out of battery. It doesn't necessarily act as a piston in any way.

Pistol scopes/lenses being attached be a frame mounted rail is actually a much more practical but old school method for dialing in a pistol sight and making follow up shots much faster. Rather than waiting for the slide to reciprocate before getting back on target like a slide mounted optic, a direct frame mount keeps the sight in the same spot every single time.

Nah, you're fine. The standard 10mm Pistol is absolutely great in New Vegas and can carry you all the way to mid-game pretty much by itself. That Gun and the 12.7mm Pistol (especially Li'l Devil) basically just serve as your "Next Level" when it comes to pistols in general; once the 10mm finally gets outclassed, you upgrade to something meaner :D

I like to think the little bottle thing on the N99 is an oil/tool bottle doubling as a compensator weight, reminiscent of the practice of keeping a maintenance kit in the buttstock of a rifle; the gun in lore is described as being an easily well maintained pistol by anyone with even just basic knowledge of firearms, so if it even comes with its own cleaning kit, that's a step in that direction.

Given the 10mm status as a general sidearm, and its relatively low damage, I think the round is not the 10mm Auto round (which is powerful and kicks). It was too strong for the FBI, so they went to a reduced velocity round, which was then adapted into the .40 S&W round, which is popular in police handguns. I think the 10mm round in game is in fact .40 S&W under a different name, essentially 10mm Short.

    - The film version of the 5.56 pistol, aka That Gun, is actually called the Pflager-Katsumata Model-D, or PKD, a joint German-Japanese handgun designed for police special-issue.

I think the cylinder on the 10mm is an integrated gun maintenance or cleaning kit, with just enough room for a small bottle of gun oil or replacement parts. That would explain why it can be replaced with a laser sight without becoming less effective in combat. Some rifles have these in the stock but a handgun wouldn't have the space for that.

It's interesting that the Browning Hi-Power in Tactics was claimed to see a resurgence of popularity in the 2010's. The game was made in 2001, yet to some degree it almost was prophetic, as several companies have come out with modern variants of the Hi-Power in recent years.

I believe that the little cylinder on the bottom of the 10mm pistol is (meant to be) a laser sight. The Fallout world differs from ours with the creation (or failure to create in the case of the Fallout world) of the super conductor. The super conductor allowed for a far more compact way to conduct electricity. This is the in-lore reason why all of the technology is so bulky, they do not have the superconductors necessary to create the compact technology we have today. I'm assuming that due to this, the necessary size for a laser sight would increase dramatically and thus explaining the bulky add-on.

In terms of the cylinder on the bottom of the FO3 10mm, the first think that came to mind was the stinger and its radon gas cartridges. Basically you pop a cartridge onto it, the gas immediately supercools the internals. While it wouldn’t require to be super cooled, maybe the 10m has something like that in lieu of an exchangeable barrel. Or, the more “realistic” option is potentially some pressurized cylinder to potentially contain some of the gas bleed off to help with recoil, sound suppression, and it stays contained in order to be used in assisting with cycling in more adverse conditions like clearing icing, mud, sand, or buildup since the gun is certainly designed to last the operator for very extended periods. (Kind of like the Offensive Handgun Weapon System program which spawned the MK23)

I've always found it strange how 10mm usually deals less damage than .357 mag and .45 ACP in Fallout games when, by the numbers, 10mm when actually properly loaded will almost always output more energy on target than either round. The problem with 10mm in our real world is that most companies underload 10mm to be more comparable to .40 Smith & Wesson which is a much less potent round which was developed specifically to reduce the inherent kick of the 10mm round for Federal Law Enforcement because their agents couldn't qualify very well with the 10mm.

  • @woodrobin
    @woodrobin 3 месяца назад +1

The piston-thing on the 10mm pistol under the barrel was probably meant to imply that it had a gas-operated reloading mechanism (or at least the option for one). Automatic weapons often have such a system, using gas pressure from the gunpowder to power a reloading process, assisting or replacing the spring/lever system in semi-automatic pistols or the simple cylinder rotation in revolvers. Given that weapon designers in the Fallout universe seemed to be (shall we say) "compensating" in terms of gun size, a big, bulky system like that wouldn't have phased them at all.

The discrepancy in the Fo1 10mm pistol's description while unintended makes it a magazine fed revolver which does exist, the most famous example being the Landstad Revolver. Magazine fed revolvers (obviously) never caught on but their accidental inclusion in the Fallout universe makes sense as there are quite a few weapon design paths which are pursued in universe that weren't in ours. Also, IIRC all of the 10mm pistols are made by Colt but the Fo1 & 2 are the only one referred to as such in game.

The Deliverer is a Legendary gun, which suggests that any non-Legendary versions would _not_ be the VATS powerhouse the Deliverer is.
In the infamous overhaul mod Frost, you can find "compact 10mm pistols" in many places. These use the Deliverer model, but have lower stats than the standard 10mm. This seems completely reasonable to me.
Something that seems _less_ reasonable is to make the Auto .45 a holdout weapon, i.e. easier to get past a security check, by adding a suppressor which makes the gun about twice as long.
Do I even want to know where you hide that thing?

Regarding the Weathered 10mm from NV: Like everything in the Courier's Stash, it was originally a preorder bonus. Depending on what retailer you got your copy of NV from, you got a different set of gear. This was part of the Classic Pack set of equipment, that included an armored Vault 13 suit (from the end of the F1), 50 10mm rounds, 5 stimpacks and a Vault 13 Flask. I believe that is supposed to imply the weathered 10mm traces back to Vault 13 as well, perhaps even the Vault Dweller themselves. I believe this set was from GameStop in the US.
I recall in my first playthrough putting a suppressor on the weathered 10mm made the model disappear.

If I was still a game dev AND a gunt nut, I'd say that on the Desert Eagle looking 10mm, that little cartridge-looking thing on the bottom front would be either
    a. a compensator of some sort for better accuracy when shooting or
    b. some kind of fold out fore grip like on some berettas for fast shooting.
It could also be some kind of laser sight that simply lost power over the centuries and there's probably just as much evidence for it being that.

In regards to the bulk of the 10mm of FO3/NV, it has the advantage that you could load the ammo hot and not have much in the way of recoil. Muzzle heavy with added weight below the barrel could help.
Side note: a possible thing the cylinder at the front and bottom of the gun could be is a collapsible cleaning kit. I've seen cylinders that unscrew in half to reveal segments for a cleaning rod that then screw into part of the cylinder. A brass bristle brush or other tip is then screwed on at the end for cleaning after applying oil.

I always thought the Silenced .22 looked similar to a Welrod pistol, designed during the second world war. Designed to fire .32 ACP in early variants and later to 9mm Parabellum rounds, it also had an internally suppressed silencer. At a range of 15 meters in a quite environment, you could not even hear it fire and completely silent in loud environments . Although unlike the slinced .22, the Welrod was strictly Bolt action, with a small round bolt on the back of the gun that when the gun needs to be cocked, you pull on bolt and then twist it to the left which then causes ejection of the spent casing and grabs another round from the detachable pistol grip magazine, then it is twisted back to the right and move the bolt back into its original position.
    Around 14,000 were manufactured
