      I have one question, will be able to come to Sand Diego, CA? I live in San Diego, CA and I have a puppy that’s about 9 months old and she is very hyper and sometimes aggressive. When ever I come outside to my backyard she will be very hyper and I try to calm her down, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. Whenever I get close to her while she is playing with her blanket, toy, or bone, she growls at me. When she growls I take her bone, toy, or blanket and tell her to stop. Also, she is an American Pitbull Terrier, just for me she growls but When she meets new people she acts super sweet and shy. She does know a few tricks but I just really want her to be trained and be loyal to me. Please answer if you can come to San Diego, CA.

      The problem isn't even the dog. The problem is that many people are too squeamish to see even an aggressive dog handled with moderate firmness. The problem is that counter-productive legal action can be significantly more dangerous than an out of control dog.
      Dog Daddy is great for two reasons. One, he had the courage to stand up to cry-bullies in our society. And two, by this point, he's so practiced/skilled that he can rehabilitate dogs with minimal fuss, anyway.
      But he had to get started somewhere.

    This is similar to my own story, a “professional trainer” recommended euthanasia for my dog 8 years ago! Horrible so called trainers who blame dogs for their own incompetence and beliefs in educational myths that anthropomorphize dogs. It’s why I follow and am huge fan of DD.

Like there are all kinds of dog personalities, there are many different types of trainers. So finding the right trainer is imperative to save these poor dogs! DD has proven over and over his abilities. He never talks down other trainers. However there are many out there that bash him. Augusto even handles those who disagree with him with dignity. He is so good at reading the dogs' behavior that it allows him to give the right correction at the right time. that is something that many trainers and owners have a hard time with. Observing your dog carefully is extremely important. He is incredibly good at it, it is truly a gift. Known another person like that, an incredibly good watchdog behind a gate, the police had to enter there and did not want to stun or shoot the dog, he just walked in and put a leash on the dog. Special people.

    People don't realize that the reason dogs misbehave is because the owners don't know how to communicate with them and worst they sometimes treat them as their toddler that will stop when it gets what it wants. My parent's dog never growled before too, trained him well when he was a puppy until 1yr old. I went away because of school and got surprised that he growled at my dad during feeding time, even tried showed his canines and started to bark when he doesn't get his way. He never did this behaviours before I left. Turns out they let him do what he wanted and never listened to what I told them about proper correction. Our dog then became the alpha so I've been trying to correct it now. The firm direction, patience and consistency is all he needed. Now he gets in his "house" (his kennel) and patiently waits for the food as he was taught. Barking is a work in progress 😂

  • @GailChadbourne
    @GailChadbourne 2 месяца назад +4

    The positive only trainers could not handle this dog as their methods depend on repetition. Using gentle but stern corrections along with praise can work wonders with this type of dog. Owners need to follow directions and use the same body language as the trainer and they can get great results.

    • @DonnaBaker125
      @DonnaBaker125 2 месяца назад

      What do you mean when you say "depends on repetition"? Also, why do you feel a rewards-based trainer could not handle this type of dog? (I prefer the term rewards based rather than positive only, as the latter is really a misnomer.) A rewards-based trainer would certainly approach the dog differently, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be effective. For example, rather than force the dog to accept a muzzle when they are in a heightened state of anxiety and fearful of the muzzle, you can take a step-by-step approach to muzzle training that gradually allows the dog to see the muzzle as a good thing, not a bad thing. You wouldn't try to do this in a class setting, unless the class was specifically for muzzle training. It would be done ahead of time so that the dog was already conditioned to the muzzle before the class. There are tons of excellent videos and articles online that show how to muzzle train without causing the dog stress and fear. (I know, because I used them with my own dog when I muzzle trained him.) Similarly, I personally would never force a dog to tolerate hard brushing the way that he does here if that were something the dog had issues with. This dog obviously wasn't comfortable with the brushing, and she tried to communicate that to Augusto through her body language and growling, but he just continued to brush her (rather forcefully, in my opinion). Instead, a rewards-based trainer might start slowly and gently and let the dog start to associate the brush and the brush touching her with something good (high value food, for example, a special toy, or something else she enjoys), so that she begins to want the brushing, rather than just putting up with it. That to me, is a way to build trust with the dog, enhance the owner/dog relationship, and achieve the same (or better) results without instilling so much stress in the dog.

    Постоянно застреваю на ваших видео. Вы просто волшебник! Очень радостно, когда в результате работы собака становится спокойной, не боится. И хозяин учится быть для неё настоящим лидером!

    Augusto, these one on one situations are gems for your audience. Please keep doing these. The class videos are good, but these one dog, time lapsed, correction process vids, show people how much time it can take before a Dog submits to the what you are trying to teach it. Most owners just cannot see the changes that you see as you are getting the dog desensitized in highly reactive situations. It is the little hints of progress you point out that are the building blocks to a dog being able to be petted or brushed without reaction. It shows owners it can be done, but also just how much time it will take before improvements in the dogs behavior are realized. You are the man!

    Great post. Finally something that clearly shows how you actually transfer the handling to the owner. Which is one of people's criticisms of you. I love how you have her do the same exercise after.
    I will say, it's still hard for them after 1 session, and likely harder once home back in their own home...but I assume they can also take that to another trainer to support them through following up.😊

    Omg just look how happy you made this lady… and her beautiful dog. Bless you. ( I’ve been watching your videos since the beginning when you were in flip flops and shorts and the wind sounds blowing in the background 😂) loved all of them. Keep it up, but don’t forget to take vacations. You need and deserve them. ❤

    I've had MANY dogs over my years alive & have NEVER had a dog act this way towards me. They have all been pretty easy to train. I wonder what makes some dogs act this way? Is it the owners not asserting control early on in their lives? Is it just "bad dogs"? I'm thankful my dogs have never acted this way. Dog daddy looks like he knows exactly what he is doing. You HAVE to assert your authority & control over your animal. Then, you have to show them you will not hurt them when they are in a vulnerable position. That's just my 2 cents. Thank you dog daddy for helping this woman not to have her dog put down.

    DD, you are spectacular! ❤❤❤
    I am using your technique with my dogs and they work wonders.
    I was able to make my dog and my daughter’s dog to become friends when they were very agressive to each other at first.
    It did not take long. It was so satisfying to see their postures evolving from very anxious to relaxed and friendly.
