One of the greatest twist endings ever and is so rewarding on the second watch because you're able to catch all the little signs that something isnt quite right. Also the ending is so crazy to me. He didn't circle back to the routine of thinking he's a detective who needs to "get to the mainland". He's well aware and would rather die being in control, than to lose himself again.
The woman playing the missing woman, who was found against, and saud "Youre not my husband", was a nurse. You can see her in the background, in the scene, when Leo was told by, he didn't have a partner with him, when he entered the island. Shes standing in nurse outfit, along with other nurses.
The nurse who played Rachel had two goals in her performance: - Trigger Andrew with her back story and feigned intimacy - Come across as crazy so as to further disorient Teddy
Thank you for reacting to one of my all-time personal favourite psychological horror drama films which is a rarity of Martin Scorsese to direct given his high profile for Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino and recently Killers of the Flower Moon. It took me 3 times to watch the film to see the signs that Teddy Daniels/Andrew Laeddis (cool fictional character names) is not who we thought he is. At the end of the film, his last words “What could be much worse in this place: live as a monster or die as a good man” is an indicator that Laeddis opted out for the “lighthouse icepick” due to the fact he got to the point of no longer handling the trauma of killing his wife for killing his kids and not wanting to regress restarting the entire cutting-edge roleplay all over again. As much as I know that it was all a roleplay: I loved the scene of Dr Rachel Solando in the cave, got a feeling it’s real (yet Dr Cawley brushed it off as fake hallucinations in Laeddis’ mind) as I could see this play a role in the plot of a continuation miniseries that I call “Escape From Shutter Island”. No matter if he was thinking of something in the past that’s true or not - the US army liberation of Dachau (among the early Nazi campsites to appear in the Holocaust) resulted in the soldiers and surviving Holocaust prisoners participated in a revenge killing (execution squad-esque) on the camp guards except those who faced the music in the criminal courts. It did happen in our world. An investigation conducted by US army Lieutenant-colonel Joseph Whittaker was suppressed by US army general George Patton and a Bavaria governor to cover up what Laeddis described as “not warfare but murder [on both sides]”. I do believe Laeddis’ involvement in the Dachau liberation and revenge killings was true.
Actually in the end the movie was soo good u could play in ur head and decide whatever the case is actually weather he's actually a detective or a patient since what that women in the cave said they slowly physiologically made him into think he's a patient with sedatives and played it soo perfect to make him believe it or he's actually a patient like they told it to be
Theory about the cup scene I believe that it is from the eyes of Leo which would be the beginning of Teddy’s/Andrew’s hallucinations because he internally hates water, so he blocked out the water from his viewing
This is one of those "horror" type of films I absolutely love. Makes you think and wonder! So much mystery and then subverts expectations at the end. Gripping from start to finish.
I felt the same way about the ending as well I so wanted to see more I love reaction videos because I learn a lot from the reactors certain things about this movie I didn’t understand until I watched reactors react to it great reaction guys. 🙌🏾
